Did anyone else dress their babies in babygros all day every day until they were 11/12 months old?

I put some of DS baby clothes in the paper stating that it was mostly vests, babygrows and a few outfits. A lady rang up and said she wanted to come and see them. When she got here she said,

"Oh is that all the outfits you've got?"

I said "Yes I did put in the advert there weren't many. He didn't start wearing proper clothes until the next size. Until then my DS wore babygros all day every day pretty much" .

With a goldfish type face "What even when you went out?"

"Erm, yes"

Was I weird in doing that? No one ever commented if I was!!

Apologies for not reading the thread again

but, truly, what could be more practical. cute and comfortable than a babygro?
Yes, my babies mostly wore babygros

StercusAccidit · 21/03/2009 06:59

NAO what a beautiful picture i have lots of DS feeding but too scared to put them on here lol

It really is beautiful and your baby is gorgeous bless him (he's got a 'leave me alone ffs they're MINE' look going on at who ever's taking the picture)

DS grumps like an annoyed pig at his dad if he messes with him while he's feeding

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 21/03/2009 07:18

BlameItOnTheBogey- what did your DC wear at night if they never wore babygros?

Toucan - Call it lazy if you want, but I bet I'm not the only person who didn't bother to change them out of their nighttime babygro in the morning if it wasn't dirty. They are babies fgs not mini-mes.

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 21/03/2009 07:19

However I have to say
Leggins With Feet = tights.

LoneStranger · 21/03/2009 08:10

Cant think of anything more practical than babygros. My DS is 18 months and still wears them all days most days, unless we are going out 'proper'.

Im with you Libra, he wears them the next day if they have not got dirty overnight. In fact they are like a second skin for him.

I put jeans or joggers, top and jacket over the top to do the school run. I let him roam around in them with shorts on top or joggers if we are in the garden and then joggers or whatever for the second school run! Couldnt be simpler. Right now he is walking aroung wearing slippers over his babygro. I can see that one has come off, but at least I dont have to worry about him having bare feet on the wooden floor. Or worry about him taking off his socks and leaving them in random places. Babygros, a creation from the Gods!

Divvy · 21/03/2009 08:26

LoneStranger.....how do you get a 18 month old to be still long enough to do a babygro up?

LoneStranger · 21/03/2009 08:55

He tries to do the top buttons while I fasten the lower ones. We usually sing a counting song as a distraction and I tickle him when doing up the buttons near his tummy. He quites enjoys it really ... and if HE doesnt, I certainly do.

jammietart · 21/03/2009 09:01

I love babies in babygros. Makes them look all babyish.

In hospital when i had DS woman opposite had her day old DD in a full demin outfit (skirt, waistcoat and jacket). She looked very odd imo.

elkiedee · 21/03/2009 09:02

On the chav comments my stereotype/preconception of chavs' babies is that they'd be in outfits and perhaps miniature designer trainers when they're nowhere near walking, not babygros.

To be fair that nurse we saw with ds1 is the only HCP who has criticised me for taking a baby in in a babygro, I think she just has an issue with poppers etc and felt it would have been easier for me to slip off jeans. I took ds2 to the health visitor yesterday in a babygro and vest I hadn't even changed from the day before - not intended that way but we'd both fallen asleep after my bath and a feed and I woke up with 10 minutes to dress myself, get ready and get to the health centre (fortunately a very short walk from home). She didn't seem concerned

SkintColditz · 21/03/2009 09:07

Ds2 wore babygrows in the day until he could WALK. Why the hell not? They are comfortable for them, a darned sight more so than "outfits", they are easy to wash, easy to change, and cheap to buy, cute looking and snuggly. What's not to like?

PS "Chavvy" baby clothes are those revolting dior bottles, pierced appendages, a pushchair that looks like you chose the baby to match the buggy bag, and "pram shoes"

ninja · 21/03/2009 09:12

love babygros - plus easier with cloth.

I do sometimes feel the odd one out (DD2 now in 6-9month) as she's almost the only one. But hey it's quick and comfy

I had the opposite experience to the OP when a friend gave me bags of baby clothes and they were almost all outfits (of course I didn't say anything)

nappyaddict · 21/03/2009 09:31

LS say you were going to the shops or baby group or the park or something does he stay in his babygro or do you put proper clothes on?

colditz How old was DS2 when he walked?

ninja i love the swimming pics. How old is DD2?

SkintColditz · 21/03/2009 09:37

He was nearly 15 months - actually I sometimes used to put a pair of jeans on him the summer after he turned one so he could crawl around in the garden. THAT'S what jeans are for!

ChairmumMiaow · 21/03/2009 09:39

we had lots of 'proper' clothes given to us and babygros never fit DS properly due to his cloth nappies, so as soon as he wanted to start moving, the dangly legs got in the way. For the next (hypothetical) baby I'd like to stick to babygros but I don't think it will work as that one will be in cloth too.

nappyaddict · 21/03/2009 10:09

Colditz did he just wear babygros at home or when you went out too?

I am going to show my friend this thread to prove that loads of people did what i did. Her baby is 9 months and she has almost caved into pressure of putting him in proper clothes.

OP posts:
SkintColditz · 21/03/2009 10:33

No, wherever we went. i didn't see the point in making my baby uncomfortable just to appease other people's idea of proper attire.

LoneStranger · 21/03/2009 11:47

Hi NA, am back now. I couldnt find his swimsuit so didnt go in the end , but went to drop DS to Stagecoach and then on to Tesco for the weekly shop. He wore (and is still in) the babygrow, with jeans on top and trainers. He had a zipper thing on but has taken it off now. Was thinking about this thread while waiting for DD to finish, there were about 7-8 other parenets also there and DS decided it'd be a good time to remove his zipper thingy. No-one batted an eyelid (that I saw) and it just looks like a tucked in top. To me! Anyway, even if it doesnt the arrangement suits me perfectly and i wont change until it suits me to do so. Have bought 18-24 months, so no doubt he will do the same at least until then.

NotAnOtter · 21/03/2009 11:52

thanks all

btw the leggings are not at all like tights much thicker and lovelier!

verygreenlawn · 21/03/2009 11:56

To the OP: yes. To the point that DH asked me tactfully if the dcs would actually be starting school in uniformed babygrows .

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 21/03/2009 11:56

Not quite babygros but soft jersey tops and leggings. I hate seeing babies in crunchy denim, it must be very uncomfortable, esp around the waist after a feed.

jellybeans · 21/03/2009 11:57

My DS does about 1/3 the time but I love outfits too!

NotAnOtter · 21/03/2009 11:58

yes 'crunchy' denim!

looks too hard on their soft skin

babies should be i something comfy

they have a lifetime to be a clothes horse

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 21/03/2009 12:01

Baby footie shirts are another bug bear, they ride up and bunch and are so slippy you almost drop the poor thing. And double that with jeans too... arghhhhhhhhhhh!!
