Did anyone else dress their babies in babygros all day every day until they were 11/12 months old?

I put some of DS baby clothes in the paper stating that it was mostly vests, babygrows and a few outfits. A lady rang up and said she wanted to come and see them. When she got here she said,

"Oh is that all the outfits you've got?"

I said "Yes I did put in the advert there weren't many. He didn't start wearing proper clothes until the next size. Until then my DS wore babygros all day every day pretty much" .

With a goldfish type face "What even when you went out?"

"Erm, yes"

Was I weird in doing that? No one ever commented if I was!!

They're babygrows. They are clothes for babies. There have really only been proper big people 'clothes' around for about 10 years anyway. Certainly all of my baby pictures are of me dressed as a baby.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 20/03/2009 22:50

Am I the only person whose baby has never worn a babygro? Never really known what they are there for.

AnyFucker · 20/03/2009 22:51

I suppose the adult equivalent of a BabyGro is the playsuit or jumpsuit...

perhaps there is a point to them after all

MollieO · 20/03/2009 22:59

First 5 weeks in hospital yes and then only at night time. Always made sure daytime clothes didn't have seams that they lie on.

NotAnOtter · 20/03/2009 23:00

Lol yeah aren't they just so stroppy at this age
And sleep for britain (should make teen sleeping an olympic event lol)

Me having DS has put her off till she's 30 i think

IMO... about baby clothes... babygro's are useful and versatile and made for purpose.. i have got sick of baby jeans without poppers when DS cacks all up his back and its a whole clothes change ... wahhhhh you have to make sure as mollie says that clothes have no seams that can rub a babys skin..

People who have time to worry about whether to dress in babygro's or clothes have too much time on their hands IMVHO lol

Sorrento · 20/03/2009 23:10

Lol at lazy, so because you dress your child in outfits that make them look like weird dolls IMO that makes you the better parent.
Silly me I spent my days playing with my babies, not dressing them up.

NotAnOtter · 20/03/2009 23:12

Babygros aren't PJs! They used to be what babies wore all the time, aside from christenings and maybe the very odd special occasion. There weren't any nasty stiff jeans for newborns around when I were a lass, any road...

DS was in babygros (or sometimes a long vest and pull up jersey leggings) until 6 months or so, and just a short vest for hot days. We put him into dungarees more and more when he started crawling and getting into things, but TBH I think we could just have let him be. I think there is a lot of social pressure to dress your baby up during the day, although thankfully I've never copped any narky comments from HVs, etc, about taking DS in his PJs to the clinic! (It used to be v quick to whip his leg out for a jab, or take the lot off to weigh him.) I think if we had a girl, she'd be in babygros even longer, as dresses and skirts just seem daft (but cute) at this age - they ruck up all the time and get in the way of crawling, as far as I can see.

NotAnOtter · 20/03/2009 23:28

ds does no crawl yet 100! not even sit up!

Ds2 wore babygros for ages, mainly because he was premature and finding clothes to fit was a nightmare and I had TONS of babygros, but he also looked very cute in them He had the odd outfit, but didn't go into clothes until he was about 6 months, and if he did it was cotton tops and cotton trousers
