Did anyone else dress their babies in babygros all day every day until they were 11/12 months old?

I put some of DS baby clothes in the paper stating that it was mostly vests, babygrows and a few outfits. A lady rang up and said she wanted to come and see them. When she got here she said,

"Oh is that all the outfits you've got?"

I said "Yes I did put in the advert there weren't many. He didn't start wearing proper clothes until the next size. Until then my DS wore babygros all day every day pretty much" .

With a goldfish type face "What even when you went out?"

"Erm, yes"

Was I weird in doing that? No one ever commented if I was!!

dd wore proper clothes everyday and babygrows for bed.

And Sainsbury's do Lemon and Mint ones which I'd get too am sick to the back teeth of pink and if we get a boy he'll be in blue for 10 years so i'm delaying that as long as possible too.

I got told off by the nurse when I took ds1 for his first jabs at 2 months for not putting him in trousers!

southeastastra · 20/03/2009 19:31

ooh babygros are so sweet, i dressed my son in them for ever, with socks over the top

TheGreatScootini · 20/03/2009 19:36

I was going to but only lasted till 12 weeks with DD1 as all the other babies in the groups we went to were dressed up in smart togs and I caved to the pressure..Its madness really as baby gros were much easier and probably comfier for the baby. But then they do look cute in a little dress or whatever..My MIL bought DD1 a Ralph Lauren snow suit, which was against my morals nearly (as I think designer wear on babies is the worst sort of vanity unless you are a millionaire) but I couldnt resist it and proudly toted her around in it.The shame!

DD2 just got DD1's cast offs mainly, plus she was born in summer so she was mainly in vests as it was warm..

TheGreatScootini · 20/03/2009 19:38

I dont iron either, excpet DH does his shirts and I might do the odd dress etc if its desperate.
My Mother is outraged and whenever she comes makes a point of getting all the DD's clothes out and pressing them..Madness..but if thats how she wants to spend her time I suppose..

RhinestoneCowgirl · 20/03/2009 19:38

I got told that DS wouldn't learn to distinguish between day and night if I kept him in babygros all the time (he was about 6 wks old at the time ). He stayed in babygros mostly until 6 months or so.

DD is 3 months old and lovely snuggly in babygros - easier in the sling as well.

Sorrento · 20/03/2009 19:39

Nurses at the jabs clinic usually find something to critise, miserable moo's that they are, I just gave them one of my don't mess with me looks if that's all they can find you're doing wrong then you're doing a cracking job !

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 20/03/2009 19:45

what bullshit is that????

NellieTheEllie · 20/03/2009 20:00

I never pay much for a proper outfit - the supermarkets do some nice things these days.
NEVER iron my clothes, let alone my Dc's
Steer well clear of 'labelled' clothes - they are rarely better quality than cheaper stuff and just look wrong on a baby.

Shhhh · 20/03/2009 21:20

dd wore outfits from a young age BUT nothing major..easy clothing iykiwm...

ds wore gro's till around 6 months+ (he had a stoma so wore them due to medical reasons) BUT then wore outfits (loose fitting as per before..)

But both dd & ds wore gro's when they were in bed.

IMO I preferred them in gro's at bed and "dressed" during the day. Personal choice I guess...

Wigglesworth · 20/03/2009 21:34

DS only wears them for bed and has done since being a couple of weeks old. He wears proper clothes during the day. It's your choice what you dress your baby in, what the frig has it got to do with this woman?

AlderTree · 20/03/2009 21:37

Definitely clothes during the day and babygros at night. It didn't occur to me to just get sleepsuits until they were crawling. I agree babies look cute in their sleepsuits but for me it didn't feel right to leave mine in theirs all day. Seemed a bit pointless to change them into a clean one for daytime really - may as well put clothes on them. Definitely not labelled, preferably good quality second hand has added benefit of being softer.

A relative of mine who lives in the US is utterly horrified that the babies there have no identity until they are over one because they are in babygro/romper type things for ages. She finds it especially odd on the boys apparently. But that is probably because she feels embarrassed after she says 'what a sweet little girl' to the mother of a boy.

LOL the idea of trying to get DD to stay still long enough to get a babygro on - I was desperately trying to find pjs for her at 9 months!

NotAnOtter · 20/03/2009 21:40

ds is 8 months

babygros all the time

they are babies!

NotAnOtter · 20/03/2009 21:40

he is my 6th i love it

nappyaddict · 20/03/2009 21:48

LHM - forgot to say what about walking outside? That's what I meant really when I said if DS had walked earlier he probably would have been out of babygros sooner. I didn't think you would be able fit shoes on over babygros?

Did with DS1 and DD
DS2 is spoilt

And all he does is grow out of them quickly so no YANBU (as if this is an AIBU thread lol )

A lot less hassle IMO dressing them in babygro's, and they look cute in anything tbh

NotAnOtter · 20/03/2009 22:18

wait till you see what i put ds5 in.......

NotAnOtter · 20/03/2009 22:20

he is squeezable in them!

AlexanderPandasmum · 20/03/2009 22:27

After my DS was born 2 months prem, it took ages before there was even the option of much more than sleepsuits in his size. So as soon as he went into "Tiny Baby" (yes, this was the 3rd sizing he went into as he was so tiny) I bought him some dungarees and a couple of pairs of footed trousers with long-sleeved tops to match - still very comfy and soft but a change from seeing him in sleepsuits. I also had rompers for during the day - the ones that are like sleepsuits but without the feet in - I liked them better than sleepsuits and he wore these A LOT until he was about a year IIRC. The cropped rompers (short legs and sleeves) were brilliant for summer too (and I think much easier for rolling around on the floor than outfits).

CKelpie · 20/03/2009 22:30

I cannot remember the age but I kept using babygrows as long as they fitted. He wore outfits for special occasions though.

Comfy for him, easy for me. Everyone was happy.
Infact, I have picture of ds after he started walking in a fleece all in one - was probably supposed to be jammas but I still used it as day wear. It was dark blue with white stars and he just looked soooo cute in it!

littlelamb · 20/03/2009 22:31

Damn you for that link NotAnOtter

NotAnOtter · 20/03/2009 22:34
