Did anyone else dress their babies in babygros all day every day until they were 11/12 months old?

I put some of DS baby clothes in the paper stating that it was mostly vests, babygrows and a few outfits. A lady rang up and said she wanted to come and see them. When she got here she said,

"Oh is that all the outfits you've got?"

I said "Yes I did put in the advert there weren't many. He didn't start wearing proper clothes until the next size. Until then my DS wore babygros all day every day pretty much" .

With a goldfish type face "What even when you went out?"

"Erm, yes"

Was I weird in doing that? No one ever commented if I was!!

Did everyone else who used babygros till 12 months have slow developing babies too? I probably would have stopped sooner but DS didn't start crusing until 12/13 months so there was no need.

No, she only wore babygros at night. Proper clothes during the day. She was on the move very early indeed - at two months old she was bouncing away and would slip out of my hands if she was still in her nightwear.

SlightlyMadScotland · 20/03/2009 16:05

DTDs wore baby grows all day every day until they were about 9m old - unless we had family round when we dressed them in teh outfit that partiular member of the family had purchased.

They wore most days they grew out of the 9-12m sized babygrows - which would have been when they were about 18m. We did dress them at the weekends though from about 9m old.

They were not slow developing. They walked bag on 13m - which is pretty good going considering they were 3m premature.

handbagqueen · 20/03/2009 16:09

I dressed my DD's in proper clothes from birth pretty much, but only because when I had dolls I loved dressing them up - so I guess both DD's were and extension of my childhood dolly dresing up!

Both my Dd's were late walkers 22months and 19 months so I don't think there is a walking - clothes link.

MrsMattie · 20/03/2009 16:09

My 17 wk old has worn an 'outfit' about three times in her little life. I don't see the point in dressing babies up like dolls in fussy, uncomfortable 'adult' clothes. She wears vests & sleepsuits/babygros almost all of the time.

noddyholder · 20/03/2009 16:09

No just a slow developing mum who thinks proper clothes on babies is a bit daft!

nappyaddict · 20/03/2009 16:13

Lol to those of you who thought I meant wearing baby gros longer means slower development. I just meant that DS was able to wear them until 12 months cos he didn't start cruising until he was 12/13 months. If he had started cruising sooner I guess keeping him in babygros until 12 months wouldn't have been practical?

No I didn't. I had daytime clothes for day. Babygrows all the time would be like being in pj's all the time.

So many lovely clothes to choose from too.

The only thing I made sure was that they were comfortable and not trussed up. Not all baby clothes have to be uncomfortable.

profiterole · 20/03/2009 16:17

i think babies look adorable in babtgrows - i keep mine DS2 in them most days he is 5 months and plan to until he is cruising too.

plus no gaps when they are moving around from seperate garmets - that always makes me feel chilly

daisy99divine · 20/03/2009 16:20

Babygros
Some wihtout feet when started to crawl. Mostly with feet

Still wears babygros at night (now 2.5) by choice, sometimes pjs, he chooses

And still wears popper under bottom tops (long sleeve winter, short sleeve summer) I hate that bare round tummy showing and tight elastic round little round tummies!

elkiedee · 20/03/2009 16:22

I used babygros and vests all the time until ds1 needed 6-9 month clothes (he grew rapidly and this was before he was 5 months old) but even then it was a mixture and I took him out in babygros sometimes. On holiday (when he was still under 5 months) in the US, someone commented on him still being in his pyjamas. I'm surprised again with ds2 that even at 6 weeks other babies his age already seem to be in outfits. I really love a lot of the designs of the babygros, and many of them were ds1's - I've been looking forward to getting out the zebra stripes, the dalmatian spots, the brightly coloured ones etc etc again.

He just wears them at night now, but I still quite like dressing ds1 (22 months) in babygros. And I still use poppered vests with everything - will do so until we decide to start toilet training.

I think there's a case for outfits when they're walking but that babygros are good for earlier stages of mobility - more comfy when crawling around than trousers and even more so than skirts and dresses.

sobloodystupid · 20/03/2009 16:22

how weird just had this conversation with my CM. she thought (in a nice way I hope) that it was a little odd that my ds was always in babygrows(he's 5 weeks!). thanks heavens I'm not alone..

LittleHarrysMum · 20/03/2009 16:24

Nappyaddict DS was in baby grows till one and was walking properly at 11 months. He was fine cruising & walking in baby grows.

I only dressed him in outfits for going out then because I thought people would think me weird for not!

DD wears outfits when we go to playgroup because all the other babies are too so would feel like odd one out

elkiedee · 20/03/2009 16:26

At 5 weeks?

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 20/03/2009 16:29

DD1 was in babygros for months and months, she looked so sweet, fat little thing that she was.

DD2 was in more outfitty stuff, she just didn't suit babygros so much - she was a skinnier baby.

The LO currently gestating within will be bought babygros to begin with as we don't know what sex it is, then we shall see.

Personally, I love babies in babygros, they look so cuddly.

nappyaddict · 20/03/2009 16:29

In that case my next baby shall be in them until 12 months too no matter how early he/she walks

Both my Ds and Dd were in clothes from birth. I still chose lovely soft material when they were very young and nothing too tight or constricting.
I think that babygros are pyjamas really and couldn't see why they should be in pyjamas all day.
Also, found it much easier to change nappies by whipping off elasticated trousers or skirt than fiddling about with a load of poppers (i'm not very dexterous!)

Sorrento · 20/03/2009 18:30

I would never fall for the dress your 3 month old in an outfit at £15 a go again.
If we are blessed with another it'll be a baby gro and a cardy until it starts school probably for no other reason than outfits need putting together and preferably ironing when they are that small and that's a waste of my time and energy.
I also used to buy lovely things and then loose the socks or knickers/hat after the first wash

littlelamb · 20/03/2009 18:33

MY ds is 9 months old and wears a babygrow at least 3 or 4 days a week. I mostly carry him in the Ergo now and it means his socks don't fall off (I do also have a pair of tights for him ) I don't see anyhting wrong with it tbh. They are still babies, it's comfortable for them and they're easy to wash. All of the outfits he has have been gifts really. I have had comments about him being out in his pajamas though. I just look like this

SenorToucan · 20/03/2009 18:34

NO WAY!

noddyholder · 20/03/2009 18:35

babies in baby gros so cuddly

kikid · 20/03/2009 18:36

Don't fall for it, they grow so fast the clothes are only on them for such a short length of time. Babygro & cardigans all the way here, wash & wear, so warm & comfy for babes.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 20/03/2009 18:38

not for dd1 obviously, mostly for dd2, except the odd occasion when I felt guilty or where going somewhere were I wanted to show off. bless.

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 20/03/2009 18:40

My DS is 8 months old and despite being at nursery 3 days a week I would say is in babygros 90% of the time, of the remaining time 10% he is in dungarees with a babygro underneath and the rest he is dressed in "proper" clothes (mainly for visiting grandparents).
Babygros are cheap and comfortable.

elkiedee · 20/03/2009 18:59

Ironing? What's that? My mum keeps asking if we actually need to keep the ironing board? We do own one for the rare occasions that we might need to iron our own clothes!
