Oil cleansing method

Thank you to the mumsnetter who mentionned this a few days ago! I looked it up and have done it a couple of times, and it is fantastic! It has made such an amazing difference to my skin in such a short time: it is much clearer, softer, with no dry patches, and some old stubborn blackheads are finally gone. And it is cheap! What's not to like!

For anyone interested more info here

Kitty-how do you do it for 15-20 mins? Do you not want to choke? I struggle to do 40 secs with mouthwash and then I gag and have to spit it out.

kittywise · 12/04/2009 18:10

paws I don't know! It doesn't make me gag. Mind you I am used to taking all sorts of vile concoctions in the name of improving my heathl, so I guess I've got an iron stomach!!!!!

whoingodsnameami · 12/04/2009 18:12

Can I use bio oil until I can get some castor oil, housebound at the moment as kids are ill and I am very impatient and need to try it NOW!!!!

Vamonos · 12/04/2009 18:21

What oils have you got in your kitchen cupboard? afaik bio oil has other ingredients so prob not ideal, but if you have olive or sunflower oil they are a good start.

whoingodsnameami · 12/04/2009 18:21

Damn, only got vegtable oil.

toffeeapple · 12/04/2009 18:23

KingRolo, I'm not the one who was saying about having to use a nightcream (that was Monkeysmama), my problem was the undereye area). I haven't used castor oil yet but I think it wouldn't hurt to add some to the normal Olive Oil as my pores don't look that clean ATM with just the OO.
Although blemish free.

Vamonos · 12/04/2009 18:28

veg oil might be okay if it's pure veg oil - what do the ingredients say?

whoingodsnameami · 12/04/2009 18:31

It says, 100% pure rapeseed oil.

Vamonos · 12/04/2009 18:35

Worth a go I reckon - maybe test a bit on the back of your hand to see how it feels on your skin?

whoingodsnameami · 12/04/2009 18:37

I wint be able to resist, no doubt I will give it a go.

whoingodsnameami · 12/04/2009 18:37

wont, even.

Vamonos · 12/04/2009 18:43

let us know how you get on (in the name of skin science)

KingRolo · 12/04/2009 19:05

Sorry toffee, got all confused there!

I might try that oil pulling thing then - will be worth it if I get lovely white teeth to go with my new glowing skin!

I'm starting to think oil might be the answer to everything!

whoingodsnameami · 12/04/2009 19:09

OK, I rushed upstairs and gave it a go, and am pretty impressed, my skin does look clearer and more even, I would love to get to a point where I can finally not have to wear foundation through the summer.

toffeeapple · 12/04/2009 19:43

Are you girls leaving the under eye area like that with nothing more? (sorry I sound like a broken record but what can I use for that area that's natura, more oil?)

mammya · 12/04/2009 22:25

I'm glad to see this thread is still going and you are all liking this method!

Monkeysmama, sorry you're not having a miracle... Isn't it good though, that you can have the same results as with your usual products, but for a fraction of the price?

Toffeeapple, I would massage oil in your under eye area.

I've also been using the Waitrose baby bottom butter when my skin feels too tight, as it is made mostly of olive oil I feel it complements the OCM well.

Toffee I'm using my normal creams after the OCM - I use protect and perfect during the day (the day cream and eye cream), and then a rich cream at night. Only difference is that I don't put so much on after I OCM at night - just a little on any tight patches rather than slather all over like I used to.

Been doing this for almost a month now and my skin is fab. Went to the Bobbi Brown counter yesterday because I'm a disaster with make-up and needed some help, and even there they said that I didn't need any concealer, foundation or anything . All down to the OCM!

toffeeapple · 13/04/2009 13:01

Day 3 of doing OCM:

  • A problem arose. My pores look bigger, on the verge of blackheady!!
Is this because I'm using olive oil only instead of Castor Oil/Olive oil combo? I'd say I have oily skin (I'm french) but with my old cleansing method (daily facial scrub) my pores are tight and invisible. What am I doing wrong?
toffeeapple · 13/04/2009 13:13

I'm thinking of getting Castor oil mixed with Jojoba oil?

kittywise · 13/04/2009 15:36

perhaps it's pulling all the gunk to the surface?

toffeeapple · 13/04/2009 16:35

So is that a good thing? Do I just need to persevere?
I've ordered online some Castor Oil and Jojoba oil which someone on this thread recommended as good for oily skin as it clears up pores.
But in the meantime I'm carrying on with the OI (I'm too addicted to this process, my sister has always recommended it to me, only using Argan oil (which is supposed to be AMAZING for EVERYTHING but very very expensive, about £9 for 50ml or something).

toffee, yes argan is lovely stuff but yes it is too expensive to clean your face with imo!!!!! I have a bottle that i use just for moisturising purposes.

I would keep going, you haven't been doing it for long, so give it time.

toffeeapple · 13/04/2009 19:46

I know Argan oil is lovely, I only found out about it last summer went I went back home to France, my mum had tons of the really really pure stuff that her neighbour brought her back from Marocco.
My mum kept going on about it "this oil is good for EVERYTHING" and I was using loads of it not knowing it was so expensive.
I should have brought back a bottle, plus her neighbour died since (really sad) so he won't take any more trips to Marocco.

toffeeapple · 14/04/2009 18:06

Day 4 of doing OCM:
Pores definately look more open than ever.
Was really this close last night to go back to my usual facial scrub but I thought I'd give it a bit longer.
Are my pores going to carry on opening more and more or does it need to get worse before it gets better?
Shall I go back to my old ways until I get my Castor and Jojoba oil through the post?
