Thank you to the mumsnetter who mentionned this a few days ago! I looked it up and have done it a couple of times, and it is fantastic! It has made such an amazing difference to my skin in such a short time: it is much clearer, softer, with no dry patches, and some old stubborn blackheads are finally gone. And it is cheap! What's not to like!

For anyone interested more info here

ooh that site looks fantastic - can free a sample purchase coming on...

toffeeapple · 23/04/2009 13:31

Mammya it was me complaining about my visible pores, they still are, although I love the look of my skin since doing the OCM (a part from the pores).
Which ones are they from the anita grant's website?
Merci for the link to that whipped butter, I'll try it, my hair is awful at the mo, and my scalp is starting to get itchy but I'm not washing it until sunday. I'm gonna try and not blow dry it or straighten it either (it's going to look awful).
Sorry Nappy it was you who got that link so thank you

A style and beauty thread that has this many post has to be on to something. When my Liz Earle has run out I will give this a bash. My "dryish but prone to hormonal zits" skin may well thank me for it, although it does seem to like Liz Earle as well.

mammya · 23/04/2009 13:53

Toffee, I think it was the camellia kissi oil, if you read the reviews someone says their pores have almost disappeared.

wasabi - I;m a Liz Earle fan and my skin adjusted easily. On the days when I don;t use hot oil I wipe my face over with Liz Earle tomnic (just becase I like the smell!)

wasabipeanut · 23/04/2009 14:05

Kewcumber I love that too - the smell is gorgeous. They sent me a sample of handwash with my last order and that is yummy too. An hour later you still catch the odd waft of lavender.

Kewcumber · 23/04/2009 14:09

I'm thinking of adding a touch of vit E (wheatgerm oil?) to my concoction - anyone else tried?

hoppybird · 23/04/2009 14:25

I've been reading this thread with interest - since I stopped using cleansers containing alcohol and petro-chemicals and used an oil-based cleanser, my skin has been so much better. I usually use this - as you can see from the ingredients, it's a commercial preparation of what has been recommended on this thread - it is really good, brilliant on eye make-up, but very often out of stock!

I've used their rosehip cleansing balm as a replacement, smells a bit weird, doesn't take off mascara quite as efficiently (ok though), but apparently rosehip is great for discoloration and scar-healing. If it's helpul for anyone struggling with spots, neither of these products have ever brought me out in spots, and my skin is prone to them - I can use these every day.

I have used olive oil when everything has run out, but I do find it makes my eyes rather blurry when removing mascara. I'm certainly tempted to create my own concotion once my other stuff runs out!

pollywobbledoodle · 23/04/2009 20:24

have been using l'oreal cleanse and moisturise plus lancome exfoliator for a while...but have still got blackheads and have developed white lumps under the skin that weren't going away

anyway tried this for the first time tonight and it lifted some of the white lumps out straight away....i was amazed as am a sceptical old git

thanks to the people who found the info

bran · 23/04/2009 20:37

Oooh, love that Anita Grant site. I'm quite disappointed that I don't have afro hair and can't use some of the yummy products. I'll be trying their lip thingy and the camellia kissi oil.

Akamuti do loads of different oils if anyone fancies experimenting with them. I have a few different ones from them that I mix up with shea and cocoa butter to make my own body butter.

MamaHobgoblin · 23/04/2009 21:53

Well, a week in, I'm not a very happy camper.
I have very dry patches in the areas that always were prone to dryness, but it's a lot worse now. I have to remoisturise and even that doesn't really help. I think it's probably the hot poulticing rather than the castor oil, but I'll dilute my solution with some more veg oil and see. The blackheads are still there (these are heritage blackheads, I've had them most of my life!) and sometimes my pores seem larger. To start with, my skin felt and looked better, but it's gone downhill again.

I do wonder if I'm one of the ones who'd benefit from doing it every other night? But what do you do on the 'off' nights? Wash and cleanse as usual?

nappyaddict · 23/04/2009 22:12

Mama what veg oil are you using?

nappyaddict · 23/04/2009 22:15

Also rather than scrubbing with the flannel to get the oil off pat it a few times then rub in sort of circular movements and then wipe. I repeat this about 3 times. Are you using too much oil if it is hard to wipe off? The amount of oil i pour into my hand is about the diameter of a £1 coin.

ElinorDashwood · 23/04/2009 22:17

I started this two nights ago after reading this thread. Not sure if it has had any effect on the blemishes yet, but my skin feels nice and soft. Is it alright to do it every night or should I have a night off tonight? I'm using 20% castor oil and 80% olive oil.

IrritableGrizzly · 24/04/2009 08:07

I'm doing it every night but I only use virgin coconut oil - haven't got hold of castor oil yet. I think if you use castor oil you should do it every other night as it's a bit heavier/more drying.

mammya · 24/04/2009 09:33

I've stopped using castor oil as even doing it only every other night was too drying, I just use almond oil every night now and it's great. I have tried pure avocado oil but don't like the smell, and I actually prefer the texture of almond oil I have a pot of coconut oil somewhere, I will try that tonight.

Roughly how much oil does everyone use? I use about a 10p sized amount but my friend says she only uses about a 5p sized amount. Anymore and her skin is too oily.

ruddynorah · 24/04/2009 13:21

started this yesterday. love it! i use olive oil and castor oil (both from boots) maybe 90-10. i used about a 5p amount. my skin is normally an oil slick. this is a revelation

toffeeapple · 24/04/2009 14:05

I normally use a 10p sized amount as well.
I've stopped since last night, purely to see if my hair gets better after stopping.
I almost burst into tears yesterday when trying something on in a shop's changing room and seeing myself from behind.
No, not because of the size of my arse, for once I was happy with that, just the look of my awful awful, dry, dull looling hair.
So, I'll see what happens.
But even until last night, I was not completely happy with the OCM, I've been using jojoba oil only, and my pores still look bigger and it looks like I've got blackheads (tiny ones but still).
Perhaps I'm using the wrong oil, but I don't see why it's working for everyone else.
I'm in a bit of a dilema because:
With the OCM my skin doesn't produce too much oil around the T-line and it looks neat and even.
With my regular daily scrub from asda, my pores and blackheads disappear.
Isn't that a bit of a contradiction? Who could explain that?

toffeeapple · 24/04/2009 14:07

Sorry hadn't finished, my scrub from Asda makes my pores and blackheads disappear but my T-line produces SOOOOOOOOO much oil it's ridiculous.
Now THAT is a contradiction.

mammya · 24/04/2009 14:16

Toffee, you could try combining the OCM with a scrub? You can make up a scrub by mixing some brown sugar or fine salt in the oil.

OP posts:
toffeeapple · 24/04/2009 14:18

Tried that. With sea salt, didn't make a blind bit of difference. I know I've only done it once though

hoppybird · 24/04/2009 17:29

toffeeapple - I think what could be happening with your Asda scrub and extra oiliness, is that you skin is over-compensating by producing extra oil because it has been stripped by a product too harsh for your skin.

Kewcumber · 24/04/2009 22:47

I think the casteroil is the main cleansing oil so you may find adding it helps your blackheads.

I use morethan most - I use a good 50p sized dollop probably more - but then my skin is quite dry .

I find the hot flannel shifts it regardless of hiw much I put on.

toffeeapple · 25/04/2009 10:41

Yeah thanks Hoppybird, my skin is producing more oil with the Asda scrub (which I've noticed this morning has Castor Oil in it! ) because it's stripped from its natural oil totally, but why in that case is it producing MORE pores instead of less?
Or is it due to years of using that sort of thing, which means that when my skin is not producing so much oil, my pores show more.
But why would that be?
