Oil cleansing method

Thank you to the mumsnetter who mentionned this a few days ago! I looked it up and have done it a couple of times, and it is fantastic! It has made such an amazing difference to my skin in such a short time: it is much clearer, softer, with no dry patches, and some old stubborn blackheads are finally gone. And it is cheap! What's not to like!

For anyone interested more info here

I am shocked at how well it takes your make-up off, I never realised my eyelashes were so fair and freah mascara goes on beautifully. My sis looked at me like I was mad when I told her I wash my face in cooking oil then she said, actually, you do look different, I'm gonna try it.

Another convert here!

I have been using 70/30 sunflower and castor oil mix, with a couple of drops of tea tree, as its anti - bacterial, and am hrilled so far.

Much less blotchy, and greasy

My skin is so soft, and spots are definitely happening less

cazboldy · 18/04/2009 22:17

that should be thrilled

Bumperlicioso · 18/04/2009 22:34

Ok, I finally have some castor oil, but not sunflower. I have a choice between almond, groundnut or vegetable oil. Which should I use for combo skin?

Actually I have some Neal's Yard Rose facial oil which I might add a tiny bit of too.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 18/04/2009 22:51

I can't believe there are 300 plus posts on this thread. I've been doing this since I was 16 coutesy of my nan.

Get with it you lot.

bran · 18/04/2009 23:00

This is such an interesting thread. I used to use Liz Earle and it was OK, then someone on here recommended an oil-based cleanser by Akamuti (just a mixture of oil with a bit of beeswax for texture). I was using it as recommended by the OCM even though I hadn't heard of the OCM then. I ran out about a month ago and went back to Liz Earle and my skin really went downhill and became sore and bit spotty, so I have just re-ordered the Akamuti cleanser along with a bottle of their castor oil as recommended by this thread.

I must push myself to be more consistant with my skin care. I'm usually very good about it for a week or two. Then sporadic for about 6 to 8 weeks. Then nothing at all for a couple of weeks. Then back to being good.

whoingodsnameami · 18/04/2009 23:33

Bumperlicioso I used vegtable oil when I did'nt have sunflower oil, and it was fine, infact I think it might have been better, though I have oily skin.

SammyK · 19/04/2009 09:24

I took the plunge and am on my third day today, cant believe the results my skin looks dewy but not greasy, it is gradually fading my blackheads on my nose, and no new spots are coming up!

I have so far used 100% rapeseed oil and a drop of tea tree oil as I had these at home, will be buying some castor oil today.

Wish I had heard of this years ago as I have tried allsorts to sort my skin out and this seems to be the answer. Raindroprhyme - happy it's working for you too not sure about you but I had all but given up on good skin.

Day 5 in the Big Blackhead House...

It's doing something. My pores are actually really visible today, but skin is still not too greasy, and I think blackheads are improving. Mine are horrible permanent ones though, I've had them longer than some of my teeth and I think it'll take more than 5 days to shift them!

Is anyone else having to really scrub their face with the flannel to get the oil off again? I know this is probably not a great idea, but otherwise the oil is just sitting there.

toffeeapple · 19/04/2009 13:57

Hi Mama, I'm on day 3 and my pores are extremely visible, more visible than they have ever been.
I've read somewhere that someone had been using the OCM for a year, but it's only after upping the Castor oil percentage that her pores literally disappeared!
She said she was on 30/70 though, I'm already on 50/50/. I'm wondering wether I should go even higher with the castor?
Yeah I do really have to scrub my face with the flanel especially because my combo is high in Castor oil and that's the thicker one isn't it?

toffeeapple · 19/04/2009 14:08

By the way, just to describe my pores, they start at the nose and spread across the cheeks, I've even got some around my mouth now and LOADS on my chin.
I can't accept that they are going to stay like that. It's a phase it's a phase...
I had NO pores before by the way (you know what I mean no visible ones).
It must be something I'm doing wrong

Vamonos · 19/04/2009 17:49

Well the castor oil has arrived now (from Amazon, less than a fiver delivered).

Tried it for the first time last night (about 10% with sunflower oil) - no discernable difference from using neat sunflower oil though - YET

But - I did put some neat castor oil on my hands and it is WEIRD stuff - kind of like a cross between liquid soap and vaseline. It was a bugger to get off again, I ended up trying to remove it with sunflower oil.

I would imagine it blocks pores in too high a concentration, but who knows. May explain the zits though Greensleeves!

Vamonos · 19/04/2009 17:51

oh and it had a very odd warning about not taking it for constipation when having a period I'm trying not to think about why that might be...

MayorNaze · 19/04/2009 18:16

i just use olive oil - castor oil sounds bit scary to me tbh...

i am still loving it

Vamonos · 19/04/2009 18:55

Meant to say have been using sunflower oil for about a week now, and it's GREAT. Skin soft, smooth and flake-free.

I'm still blotchy, but sadly I think that would require a bit more of a lifestyle change than just slapping a bit of cooking oil onto my face.

raindroprhyme · 19/04/2009 20:01

sammy i had definitly given up. my dermotoligist uses me for his students to poke and prod as i am immune to them saying how awful my skin is. have spent many an hour make up free under bright lights.

toffeeapple · 19/04/2009 20:32

Well I'm glad it's working for everyone else, all I seem to get is more blackheads and open pores, it's horrible, I'm so tempted to give up, but something tells me... no, you'll never know if you don't persevere

+do you think i could use zinc and castor oil nappy cream???

kittywise · 19/04/2009 22:25

No I wouldn't have thought so!!!!!!

zanz1bar · 19/04/2009 23:24

mum2samandalex i used to use sudocrem as a face mask, anything with zinc in it is really good for spots.

nappyaddict · 20/04/2009 02:33

According to my friend's DH who is a dermatologist you should allow 3-4 weeks for any new method or product to work properly before deciding whether it is working for you or not.

nappyaddict · 20/04/2009 02:37

Oh also what are you all using to remove make up on the days you aren't using the OCM?

mammya · 20/04/2009 09:03

I just use hot water and a face cloth for make up removal when not using OCM.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 20/04/2009 10:22

Hmmm hot water won't remove eye make up though.
