Could you go out for the day with no makeup on?

We are about to go out for lunch and some shopping and I have left my makeup bag in someone's car.

I could get it but dp said just go out with no makeup on. I am going to and think it could do me no good to go the whole weekend make up free. But it feels very odd.

Wear it for work, but never when not working, other than the odd dash of lipstick.

badgermonkey · 01/02/2009 13:22

I could, but I'd rather not. I wouldn't spend ages, but the difference a quick slick of eyeshadow and mascara makes is well worth the minute or so it takes me to do it.

BonsoirAnna · 01/02/2009 13:25

I very occasionally have a make-up free day. But I would never, ever go out without having had a bath, hair wash and blow dry, and my eyelashes are always dyed jet black.

daftpunk · 01/02/2009 13:28

i never wear make-up...haven't since i was about 18.

AccidentalMum · 01/02/2009 13:33

I only wear one product but if I don't have it a nervous breakdown ensues [sp?] and I wear a scarf or something until I can get to Boots...I have been known to cry over it

twoluvlykids · 01/02/2009 13:38

I can go without it, but if I do, I look my age.

With it, I think I look younger than I am.

I often don't wear it "at home" or if I'm going to the supermarket.

Always always wear it to work.

Bumperslucious · 01/02/2009 13:38

I quite often wear no make for the reason that I don't want to be someone that no one recognises or thinks I look ill if I'm not wearing it. I couldn't imagine having to put it on each day.

Bumperslucious · 01/02/2009 13:43

Accidental mum, what product is so good that you have a nervous break down with out it? Do tell!

SheWillBeLoved · 01/02/2009 13:58

I can't I know how pathetic that is, but I've been this way since high school.

I'm not exaggerating, I really do look shite without it. I have horrible pigmentation which is worse now I'm PG. I have horrendous dark circles permanently around my eyes. I over plucked my eyebrows on the arch as a teen and now they don't grow back, they need to be filled in.

I just feel loads better with it on. My confidence flies out the window and I walk with my head down if I have to leave the house without it on. I can slob around the house without it, but the minute I know people are coming or I have to go out - out comes the make up bag.

On average mine is about £15 per month. The foundation I use is £10, a tube normally lasts a month or just over if I haven't worn it or much of it each day. Everything else, powders/pencils etc, last a couple/few months.

nickschick · 01/02/2009 14:56

I wear make up every day too.

When I had ds2 as I was coming round from my c section I asked dh for my lippy [grin, the nurses said i was the glam mum vain cow

Even when we have been really quite skint and Ive needed a new mascara or something dh will ensure I get it - its just me thats the way I am.

I dont wear it so I look like a clown or anything its just subtle and without it no-one says anything I just prefer to wear it.

hotCheeseBURNS · 01/02/2009 15:01

I might nip to the local shops with no make-up and hope not to be noticed but certainly no further.

It takes me bloody ages to get my hair and make-up done and pick an outfit for work everyday but I couldn't bear for anyone to see me un-made-up!

CarryOnUpTheLiffey · 01/02/2009 15:02

Yes, I could! I'm no beauty but I don't feel totally transformed with makeup on. Just a tiny bit enhanced. Make-up doesn't make as big a difference to my appearance as it does to some other people's.

eg, I think if somebody is very fair it can make more difference.

hotCheeseBURNS · 01/02/2009 15:05

I think Liffey has a good point - I am blond with short, fair eyelashes so always always need eye make-up above all else.

Also, I look about 12 with none on.

TsarChasm · 01/02/2009 15:12

I do go without makeup. I don't look great but no-one throws up so maybe I'm not too bad.

I'm under NO illusions though, I feel and look a zillion % better with it.

I think most women do look better with than without. It's only finding a few spare minutes to put some on that means I sometimes don't.

Natural beauty is fleeting and for the under 20's. Imo that is.

cmotdibbler · 01/02/2009 15:17

The most I ever wear outside seeing customers is mascara, brown eyeshadow and lip gloss. I only ever wear foundation as my absolute smartest look and can't imagine wearing it everyday. I'm more than happy to go out with no makeup at all on

I realised that I maybe should wear coloured makeup a little more when I had tried some coloured eyeshadow on and DS made me take my glasses off, peered closely and then enquired as to why I had been painting on my eyes.

CarryOnUpTheLiffey · 01/02/2009 15:17

yes hotcheese, I have friends who look a bit 'blank' during the day but scrub up REALLY well.

LoveMyLapTop · 01/02/2009 15:18

I have never left the house without make up on in about 20 yrs
I look dreadful without it.
The only time I ma make up free is on the beach on holiday - no tell a lie even then waterfproof mascara
Dont wear loads of make up just mineral foundation, mascara and blusher takes about 2 mins to put it on.

TsarChasm · 01/02/2009 15:18

Those of you with blonde eyelashes do consider getting them dyed. It makes a such huge difference.

I wish I'd cottoned on to this years before I did. I also do my eyebrows. It makes you look so much better without makeup/ when swimming etc and also seems to make mascara work better too when you do put makeup on.

brimfull · 01/02/2009 15:27

Accidentalmum-please tellus theproduct you can't live without??

I very rarely leave the house without makeup.
I am the opposite to some-I wear bare minimum to work and more on days off...am a nurse though.

hotCheeseBURNS · 01/02/2009 15:45

Tsar - I have considered it but my eyelashes are short and a bit sparse so I don't think it would make a huge amount of difference?

TheThoughtPolice · 01/02/2009 15:47

LOL @ thread.

Of course I could. I can and do most days in fact and people do not recoil from my gorgon-esque unmaquillaged face.

atowncalledalice · 01/02/2009 15:55

I almost always wear make-up. Only powder, mascara and blusher, though. My face feels naked without it!

CaptainKarvol · 01/02/2009 16:35

Agree with Liffy on this. My very fair friend looks fantastic with makeup, and tired without. I look pretty much the same either way, but have very dark hair, eyes, brows and lashes naturally. And I never learnt to 'do' hair and makeup either - was too much of a tomboy.
