Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

OK weekend, despite having to work a six day week for no very good reason, it transpired.
Have had a soupcon of wine with lunch (mass attack of outlaws) and will have more at 9pm on the nail with the delovely Poirot.
Now have group photo of wedding with me in hat (rest of me obscured by cunningly-placed ds). But have print only not .jpeg.
Must file hoofs down again and get more walking done next week.
Am feeling positive though and really chuffed for you that you're going to get eight weeks to hone your fairy cake technique www, richly deserved with a cherry on top.
Hope everyone else has had a good weekend too

chutneymary · 14/09/2008 20:06

Hello all, just marking the thread for the week. I am not doing too badly but still feel fat as a house and out of shape. My moron has died on me too, probably through underexposure to movement.

Looking forward to the photos marina. I must admit to frequent use of a strategically placed infant to cover up some lard. Might need 2 of them to cover up current spread though. Can't believe I only have just over 10 weeks left.

WWW, having 2 months off will be bliss. You deserve it and will be able to get yourself completely relaxed and refreshed in time for 2009. How wonderful as well to be able to do all your Christmas shopping etc at a leisurely pace.

I think Yoyo has her breast appoinment tomorrow? All best wishes to you for a safe and speedy resolution.

How is DD Batters? I have had bad sleeping at the younger end of the scale and it's very draining for all concerned. Hope you are ok.

Hello everyone else, hope you had a good weekend. Was greatly fortified by the Strictly preview last night - just the thing for a pregnant woman to lounge in front of, stuffing face with jamon (lots) and sherry (regrettably hardly any). I have even got the children into jamon, though the sherry will have to wait a few years.

Hope you all have a good week.

WideWebWitch · 14/09/2008 20:24

lol at strategically placed children, Marina, thank you my love for those very kind words! And I'm glad to hear you sounding positive, I hope your week is fab but what a PITA abut the six days, will you be able to claw it back at some point?

Chutney, wow, only 10 weeks to go, how lovely that we'll all have another bootcamp newborn to drool over

Yes, yoyo, thinking of you for tomorrow.

Happy week everyone.

OP posts:
Marina · 14/09/2008 20:52

Mmmm, jamon...
All the best for tomorrow Yoyo. Whether lurking or not, hope you know we are thinking of you
(and yes my local government jobsworth meter was ticking away for every interminable minute www, fear ye not, that's half-term sorted )

arfishy · 14/09/2008 22:51

WWW 2 months off - that's great! Exactly what I plan to do more. Christmas will be a doddle for you this year. Are you soaking your fruit in brandy yet for the cake?

And oh my word at your food. I started salivating as badly as when I saw the list of forbidden foods at bootcamp.

JJ - yes, I did have a parrot on my head. I might post some photos on my profile. He is a rescued one that needed a home.

Oops better go. Should know better than to try to post before the school run. Back later.

yoyo · 14/09/2008 23:46

Thanks all for good wishes. Appointment is on Tuesday. Feeling a bit wobbly and "what if?" hence not posting. Will catch up with everyone later in the week.

arfishy · 15/09/2008 00:39

Fingers crossed for you YoYo. I hope your appointment goes well.

Parrot pics on profile.

JJ · 15/09/2008 07:24

arfishy, those are great! My youngeest is now telling us all how you should never feed a parrot chocolate or beer because it will get sick. And they are asking about your name (arfishy). Thanks - we all enjoyed them!

Marine - at 6 day work week. I don't think of librarians as having that sort of job. I hope you got some fun stuff in this weekend!

chutneymary - sounds like a relaxing night!

yoyo - good luck. Will be thinking of you this week.

WWW - I can't wait to read your posting when you're at home! I missed the SAHM thread that people have mentioned - didn't realise it was you (was it?)

I have a cold and am somewhat miserable feeling but in a happy "poor me" way.

LoveAndSqualor · 15/09/2008 10:04

Hey everyone, sorry I missed the last thread - have skim-skim-read and would like to say hello to the Fallen Madonna, and to Marina wrt the Hester Prynne phonecall . And www that is FABULOUS news viz two months off. You must be doing cartwheels of joy round your house (take care not to knock down lampshades with your feet).

Absence last week due to deep gruellingness - DP and I have now officially agreed to split up, and are looking at how to go about that. I have no idea what I need to do - we're not married, but I'd like to draw up something reasonably formal about access (wrong word nowadays, I have a feeling) and money, without involving solicitors. May go start a thread on this in a moment. I'm going to move in with my sister in November (flat is DP's), so am now lying awake at night thinking of all the things I need to do (organise childminder being top of list, argh). V stressful, scary and upsetting business - so expect to see me on here worrying about not eating enough, drinking too much, and generally wibbling. This morning, while DS naps, I am calling round childminders (well actually, as you see, I'm MNing, but you know what I mean ), though off to finish briefish poetry review first, for the good of my soul (and my pocket).

Oof, ok, long post. Good to see you all again. And yoyo, really good luck, thinking of you

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 15/09/2008 10:46

Just dashing through to mark the thread and wish yoyo good luck.

Sorry to hear your news L&S. Hope you can sort things out without falling out further. My tip for very stressful times is to make lists - even in the night it something is keeping you awake. Most satisfying crossing things off. Thinking of you.

LoveAndSqualor · 15/09/2008 11:01

Saggar - how funny - have just been googlechatting a friend, describing feeling of overwhelmedness, and agreed with her that the only thing to do in such circumstances is to Make Lists of everything, so you can stop worrying about remembering, at least! Great minds ...

WideWebWitch · 15/09/2008 12:03

L&S, sorry to hear your news. When you're ready let me give you a list of Great Things about being Divorced (well, ykwim)

Will psot on your other thread if you start it.

JJ, I will be bound to post when I am a SAHM, yes! My posts will all be about fairy cakes and cosy domesticity

OP posts:
arfishy · 15/09/2008 12:08

L&S I'm sorry to hear your news.

JJ my name just evolved really. It started off as arfissimo, then went to arfissimeau for a french theme, then to arfishymeau for a fishy theme and then just shortened to arfishy.

Parrots (she droned on) are very sensitive souls. If you burn a pan with teflon in your house a parrot would die within a couple of minutes. They can't eat avocado, coffee, chocolate, alcohol, apple/pear seeds and onion.

Anyhoo, I digress. I ate the usual, nothing processed, lots of soup, couple of slices rye bread, banana etc etc. Went to gym. Was insulted by skinny salad-worrier flogging spandex exercise garb who blatantly implied that I was TOO FAT for her gear. OK the shorts and crop top would possibly not flatter my womanly form but I'm not quite Hattie Jacques and a singlet and bootleg joggers wouldn't have been quite as eye-burning as she was making out. .

Used my new exfoliation gloves and feel less scaly. Ditto super-duper body lotion.

Drank lots of water. Put pink nail varnish on hooves toes. No wine, but did not turn down invitation to champagne breakfast in two weeks time.

Completely ballsed-up nonchalance when approached by form captain PTA mum asking where I was at Parent booze-up and mumbled about being on a diet. Then spent the next 30 minutes kicking myself. That was NOT what was supposed to happen.

Sorry to hear that L&S. It's a difficult time, but it is get-through-able. Will check out your other thread and see if there's anything I can add that might be helpful.

WWW - two months off! Wow. I'm doing the same I guess - can't see the blasted job starting for another good few weeks yet, so it's kind of 'time off under slight duress' but am trying hard to make the best of it!

Did ok over the w'end. I love I&N - once the first couple of headachey days are over it really does work, doesn't it? I hope to be emulating that old showoff suzywong before too long.

Am getting a bored of chorizo, though...

Happy Monday, all.

Hello all -
Sorry to hear somany people are grappling - L&S - courgage be with you - and lots of good MN advice and experience, I hope.
Marina - oh bloody hell - your work is just a hamster wheel of grind and crisis atm, isn't it? Big sympathies.

I'm ok: tiredness v dictated by DS's pain management over night - he's having one of his 'spikes' atm- not sure why, will discuss with consultant on Wednesday. So, interuptd night. Would need togo to bed at 3pm to get 8 hours, some nights!

Food: I have been making a serious effort to eat one meal a day which is just veg. Fri night was veg stir-fry, Sat night, just salad, yesterday, salad lunch - with some Lidl 'ryvita' which cannot have had anything digestible at all in it at all. Went to British Museum and resisted fantastic cakes in cafe, despite having 'healthy appetite' following Lidl 'ryvita'.

Alcohol: have drunk one bottle of Tiger beer and one whole bottle of red over 3 days / nights. Will desist until Fri night, now.

And have stopped raiding the bags of chocs we keep for Ds as 'antidotes' after his very foul tasting medecines. And bought an ice cream flavour that I hate to keep in the freezer for his occasional desserts.

LoveAndSqualor · 15/09/2008 13:15

anniemac and all - thank you so much. Am floundering a little under weight of things to do atm - will definitely go and check out the NCH website. Also panicking somewhat about ever finding a childminder for DS - erk - attempting to reassure myself by repeating that no-one I know has been unable to return to work due to lack of childcare! My other thread is here, if people have words of wisdom they'd care to share ..

Let's try that again, with added technology:
ta da

Blu · 15/09/2008 13:56

L&S - what area of the country are you in?

Marina · 15/09/2008 14:23

She's a local bootcamper for local bootcamps Blu
am sizzling through on crappest busiest day of the year to say hi, mine's a large pile of stodge and say how very sorry I am to hear your news L&S
Hurrah for your sister

LoveAndSqualor · 15/09/2008 15:35

marina - rofl at local bootcamper . Truly, my sister is a goddess among women.

Blu - I'm north-east London.

Cammelia · 15/09/2008 15:40

Hi everyone, I am dropping in to say sorry for you situation L & S

I have nothing of note to report re food. Or wine. Except I had some of each over the weekend.

Blu · 15/09/2008 17:09

Then, L&S, have you tried SimplyChildcare?

It was ages ago that I used it, but found that there were lots of 'discerning' CMs who were properly registered (of course) but didn't want to go on the councils 'vacancies' list - maybe to avoid constant enquiries, I don't know.
You get a magzine with ads from childcare poviders, nannies, CMs etc, and you can place your own ad for 3 issues, saying what you are looking for. But you do have to subscribe to 3 issues.

JJ · 15/09/2008 19:03

L&S - really sorry that this is happening. Hope it stays civil. Have you tried asking in the children's bookshop? She might know someone or have a suggestion where to look.

Blu - hope your son's pain is under control tonight. Eggs aren't meat, are they? I was wondering that today and you reminded me of it.

Snaf - enjoy your enforced time off if possible!

WWW - Oh dear. I think you might mean champagne lunches and trips to galleries?

arfishy - thanks! I will tell the boys that. My youngest wants to be a vet and a pet shop owner and loves animal facts. I usually read your name as arfishymeau and read foothesnoo and foofoothesnoo.

I am back to being somewhat ferociously grumpy and my cold is annoying me.
