Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

yoyo, typing one handed (ds on knee) so keeping this brief but just had to say that is WONDERFUL news. so pleased, had been wondering what was happening.

Marina · 18/09/2008 18:20

FANTASTIC news Yoyo am thrilled to hear this Thanks so much for the update
Did I mention I was working late L&S
How was the park? wink]

WideWebWitch · 18/09/2008 19:34

Oh Yoyo, WHAT a relief, how lovely, you must be very pleased and relieved.

WideWebWitch · 18/09/2008 19:36

For supper dh had kindly shoved 3 chicken legs in the oven with no seasoning or dressing and expected me to be grateful, hmm, dried up chicken, YUM! Put (wheat free, Tamari) soy sauce on it which marginally improved it.

Picked at chorizo, cambozola, prawns while I was making tomorrows lunch, so thank goodness I wasn't that hungry hey.

no wine for 4th day running
lots of water

and it's Friday tomorrow.

moonshine · 18/09/2008 19:40

That is fantastic news Yoyo - enjoy the cake and wine this weekend. Would it be wrong to have a drink in your honour tonight [poor excuse emoticon]?

moonshine · 18/09/2008 19:41

Obviously I mean poor on my behalf, not that you don't deserve a drink or 3 in your honour!

Cammelia · 18/09/2008 19:54

Marina in Robert de Niro role in Taxi Driver

That wins the award for most surreal image of the day

Am working 4 days this week instead of usual 2 as training on new system. Therefore eating quick meals at home as too tired to cook lots in evenings. Pasta and stuff. Not over-eating though so happy with that. Glass of red wine aids the digestion I find.

Was going to stay off wine during the week though

unknownrebelbang · 18/09/2008 20:54

yoyo that must be a big relief for you!

Positive vibes to all worrying about work situations. It must be very unsettling.

Must be the week for it Marina - my new boss went all Miss Whiplash at the other location she manages...think her dep there is still in shock .

Bootcampwise things are ok: being sensible foodwise most of the time, in bed by midnight, minimum 30 mins exercise every days, etc etc. Did have a bit of chocolate last night (allowed in moderation) but can't say that I enjoyed it tbh, which was .

Have lost about 1/2 stone in the last fortnight, which tbh is mainly the weight I put on over the summer plus a couple of pounds, but it's not been difficult (so far) to stick to the general plan, providing I can do some exercise in the morning before I go to work.

Happy quota ok. Undertook the 24 hour BP monitor yesterday, so should know the results soon, but am relieved that's over and done with.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 18/09/2008 21:02

Yoyo - yay Good News!!

Sorry for all who have job worries - there's something to be said for working in Local Government at times like this. And thankfully there will always be a need for firemen. Hope things calm down very soon.

ureb - half a stone! Well done you! The 24 hour BP thing is a bit of a pain isn't it? Just so long as you didn't have to attend any quiet meetings. People may have been concerned at the strange noises from under your clothing

It's my birthday today.....

tigermoth · 18/09/2008 21:07

Hope everyone who is worried about their jobs or their partner's job has a peaceful evening. Am thinking of you.

VersdeSociete · 18/09/2008 21:26

I will catch up, I will. You would have been most welcome to the pavlova, JJ, the rest went soggy in the fridge. I would feel virtuous about this if I hadn't eaten three sugar donuts this morning in strange frenzy. But walked about a million miles.
Sympathy to all with job anxiety and to L & S - you must be another Salinger fan?

VersdeSociete · 18/09/2008 21:27

What a huge relief, yoyo...

VersdeSociete · 18/09/2008 21:31

By the way, does anyone vegetarian do India and thing? It sounds a but tough for a non-chorizo eater. Tofu chorizo, anyone?

Alos does anyone else suffer from the "I'm not eating carbs but I must just do some baking for my lovely children..." syndrome? (see pavlovas passim...)

VersdeSociete · 18/09/2008 21:34

Oh (continues chatting away to self) Marina, that dallas drinking game...

yoyo · 18/09/2008 21:45

Happy birthday Saggar! No bootcamping for you tonight I hope..

Trying to catch up but so much has been happening with everyone. Really sorry to hear that so many of you or your DPs/DHs are having difficult times at work.

L&S - hope the nursery hunting goes well and you find one that you like. Also hope that you and DP continue to be able to find your way through this on such good terms.

Marina - how is Slimy? Cottage cheese is vile unless it's the one made with cream which sort of misses the point. Dodgy women night out sounds fun. Actually, any night out sounds fun.

WWW - how long before you leave work? Are you looking for something for next year or rethinking everything? Are you still enjoying the I&N? Is SW still doing it?

JJ - when will your DH be home next? It msut be really hard for you and I think shedding the odd tear is entirely justified. Bucketfuls even should you feel like it.

UREB - half a stone is fab. I need some of your self-discipline just now.

Must do some proper stuff on the pooter. Will catch up with everyone else's happenings soon.

unknownrebelbang · 18/09/2008 22:00

Happy Birthday Saggars!

Fabulous Day for a birthday.

Blu · 18/09/2008 22:17

Happy Birthday, Saggar!

I am hopeless at bootcamping! My diet is just too erratic!

Yesterday:
Plum jam on toast (both home made, but still!)
Lunch: a cappuccino and a piece of banana and walnut cake while waiting fo KikFit to fix exhaust
Pitta, hummus, carrot sticks and wine gums at a workshop thing
Some horrendous slurry that DP had made from leftover rice, potatoes, chicken, lamb bone. Salad
Wine.

But LOADS of walking

TodaY:
Toast and marmite
2 Penguin biscuits
Chicken salad sandwich, can of Orangina
Some crisps, choc biscuit, cold sausage, choc ice cream, toast, chicken thigh, tomatoes, wine.

Not enough walking.

I need structure and some self-discipline.

Hopeless!

arfishy · 18/09/2008 23:38

Great news yoyo! What a huge relief .

Happy birthday saggar!

PMSL at slurry blu, and well done ureb - half a stone is great.

Hope you're feeling better JJ. I spent 6 months in Australia with DD before DP came out and know how you feel. It was a bit odd being so far away from everybody and not knowing a soul (plus I kept getting a 'falling off the bottom of the world' feeling ).

Well DD has broken up so I won't be able to go to the gym every day. We're going to go swimming today and tomorrow. She's doing Tennis camp next week so I'll be able to go then.

Yesterday did 500 cals in the gym and am pleased with myself. I hate gyms and will never darken its door again after Christmas (and be back here whining about being fat by Easter).

LoveAndSqualor · 19/09/2008 09:11

Hey, Saggar, happy bday for yesterday!

Blu, homemade plum jam - I'm

And Vers - yes, a Salinger fan - I think you're the first person to spot it! I love that story, and 'love and squalor' pretty much sums up my perception of parenthood (), so seemed an appropriate name ...

Marina, I must confess that the park was blissful, and the one-month-old baby pretty darned good too. I gather the good weather will continue over the weekend, though!

Pretty good bootcamping yesterday, and happiness quotient boosted by park visit. Today, lunch with friend and tea with another friend (her DD has just turned four; I've bought her the Dorothy Edwards 'my naughty little sister books, which I loved at that age), then yet a further friend coming over this evening (it's his birthday tomorrow, decided he was too old for Dorothy Edwards, went for EL Doctorow instead ).

Have good days, one and all. DS squalling, must go!

WideWebWitch · 19/09/2008 09:47

Hello

Went to bed at half NINE last night!
and no wine, obv
and feel good for it today

I&N must be very hard if you're veggie I imagine

Happy b'day Saggars for yest, hope you had a good day!

lol at Marina "you talkin' to me"

childish phoar at fireman husband

Gotta go, meeting!

OP posts:
moonshine · 19/09/2008 11:00

Belated Happy Birthday to Saggars.

Ureb - well done on half a stone (and am - guess I've messed up my metabolism and/or it's my age which is making losing even half a pound such a herculean task) and good luck with BP results.

Applauds WWW for no wine and such an early night (I've just about got the dcs in bed by then!). No wine either tonight?

Marina - lol at feeling like Travis Bickle. My film alter ego would be Billy Liar (the Tim Courtenay film); the machine gun scene especially hits home with me....

I didn't drink last night - dh persuaded me to wait until tonight. Have been to gym and run 3 miles non-stop for the first time in years and have just had a banana and porridge (admittedly with a sprinkling of brown sugar). So happiness is on the up today. I will have no more than 2 glasses of wine tonight and need to now go out and hunt some fish (via Waitrose).

Gotta dash and get ds from nursery.....

JJ · 19/09/2008 11:03

Thanks - but please don't feel sorry for me, my circumstances really don't warrant it. Even if the worst happens, we'll have a place to live and not go hungry. Unless there's another Great Depression or if a rogue black hole eats the house (are we insured for that? might be worth checking...). The stress is just because I like the way things are and don't want our situation to change. And my husband has always travelled a lot, so I'm fine with that (usually) and have a good support network here. I am just whinging and moaning. And have PMT.

Saggars - happy belated birthday!

arfishy - why no gym after Christmas? I looked at the website - it looks lovely!

WWW - I love a good night's sleep too.

L&S - another gorgeous day, hope you get to get out and enjoy it again.

Blu - at horrendous slurry. I always think "at least it's healthy".

yoyo - Excellent news on the cyst! What a relief. My husband's home tomorrow, so not long.

VS - at thought of poor pavlova sitting unloved in the fridge. And now I'm craving doughnuts.

ureb - wow at taking off 1/2 stone since summer.

Mumi - know what you mean about the good feeling of being full but not too full.

Marina - am tiptoeing past you as I don't want to set you off. Hope you have a more relaxed weekend.

Snaf - hope things are brighter today and your hair has grown that little bit.

Cam - lol at red wine aids digestion.

FallenMadonna - I am the same way. Stress drives me to ice cream.

anniemac - good luck in your job too.

tigermoth - hi!

moonshine - I think you can drink to the health of yoyo, certainly.

WideWebWitch · 19/09/2008 13:02

No, no wine tonight either as am driving. Am saint.

Just had spinach salad, tuna, capers, pine kernels, cucumber, tomato, crispy bacon (thanks Snaf) and it was BORING

never mind.
also had chorizo and cambozola which was lovely and a Marmite cheese portion, anyone else eat these? They are lovely but you either love or hate them! And an ementhal babybel.

And lots of water

OP posts:
JJ · 19/09/2008 19:39

oh - sorry for earlier post. I had given myself a stern talking to and was in "pull yourself together, woman" mode.

I have had a lovely day. Jogged this morning with friend, had excellent lunch and coffee in Camden with friend and rode bike there and back at (my) top speed and have done nothing except tidy a little and make slobbish dinner (it's a "you can eat anything you want that's vaguely healthy" night).

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 19/09/2008 21:11

Oh we have those mights JJ (except ours are 'just make anything you want, healthy doesn't come into it)

I've been to the gym this morning and this evening a nice stroll with dh, lots of wine and lov ely bar snacks (samosa tye thingys with loads od garlic dip) Home now and opened a bpx of Dairy Milk.
