after reading a few threads on here its got me thinking,
if people can't stand to see other or children in certain clothes what do they think about non make up wearing women?

OP posts:
Pinkchampagne · 02/08/2008 19:25

I very rarely wear any make up. I sometimes use a little bit of eye make up when I go out in the evening, but other than that, I don't bother.

funtimewincies · 02/08/2008 20:19

No make-up here either. It's not to make a stand, it just isn't a part of my life. I have no idea whether I look better with or without it, frankly I can't be arsed learning to put it on properly in order to find out. DH has just said that he prefers me without (bless ).

Sometimes I wonder what other people think, such as if they think I'm not making an effort. I do get longer in bed in the mornings though!

I also wear glasses, which cover up a multitude of baggy-eye sins .

thumbwitch · 02/08/2008 23:37

lissielou - I had a similar experience the time someone in Boots gave me a free "makeover" - I looked like Aunt Sally out of Worzel Gummidge! Had to run to the loo to wash it off.

I don't see that it's anyone else's business or problem if I choose not to wear makeup - ohw on earth can it possibly affect anyone else? And if it means that someone doesn't want to talk to me because I am not wearing any, then they probably aren't someone I would want to talk to either.

MadameOvary · 02/08/2008 23:48

I never wore much, now if I wear any its concealer to hide the shadows under my eyes.
I do look much better with it, less tired, more groomed, but cant be arsed most of the time.
Dont care what people think TBH.

Bumperlicious · 03/08/2008 07:37

I'm kind of half and half, I often wear make up, tinted moisturiser, concealer, bit of blush or bronze and bit of mascara and lipgloss, but then my skin can sometimes be a bit crap. I tend to wear more make-up the crapper I feel about myself

However I have never wanted to be one of those people who looks really odd or ill without make-up so sometimes I don't wear any. I feel like I should make the most of being able to while I don't look so bad

Mascara is actually the one thing I rarely used to wear as I hate taking it off and would have panada eyes for days. Until I discovered this, it comes off with just warm water and flakes off instead of rubbing off.

I rarely wear eye shadow though as my eyelids are really small and deepset and I am crap at it. Would love some make-up lessons to know how to do it really well.

Bumperlicious · 03/08/2008 07:40

Oh, and I guess in answer to the OP, I don't really think about whether other people wear make-up or not, except when it is troweled on. It's very sad when you see especially young girls, with heaps or make up on.

ChairmumMiaow · 03/08/2008 07:42

I barely have time to have a shower with my 6mo DS. Why bother with makeup? (although I do on the rare ocassions when I'm going to a work meeting with DH or out to dinner without DS (once so far!))

Poppycake · 03/08/2008 11:13

ta for info re eyelashes. Who knows, I might end up looking a bit more like a grown up as a result of this thread . Perming! I never even knew!

What a sheltered life I live...

In my last place of work, there was a girlie who wore at least tube of mascara a day (clumps) and always smelt of fake tan. She was judged. But only by the girls, of course.

Let's judge people on how much they make you giggle. Frinstance, I love it when people do impossible impressions (a whale who'd been vegetarian all his like looking forward to his first roast beef dinner - so much sherry needed to induce that one luvvit!!)

Poppycake - a word of warning with eyelash tinting - I have had it done professionally 3 times and done it myself a few, back in the days when I could be bothered, and if you get the stuff into your eyes it HURTS - it is hydrogen peroxide and stings like a bastard. So do try to avoid getting it in your eyes.

turquoise · 03/08/2008 11:25

Ilove makeup, it makes me happy. (shallow)

I'm usually fairly impressed by people who don't wear it though - went to a party yesterday and the hostess was not wearing a scrap of slap, dressed in normal everyday clothes too - I half thought, good for her, and half thought : what a shame, wasting the opportunity for the full works. But that's up to her.

I was really struck by another friend who GOT MARRIED without a lick of makeup though! I would like to have that kind of confidence in my face - but IMO I look considerably better with the complete works of Estee Lauder on. Not doing it for anyone else though, just for me.

Poppycake · 03/08/2008 11:29

ow ow ow that sounds nasty thumbwitch. Did the professional people do it without extreme pain?

Doesn't HP have a bleaching effect? What's it doing in sth to make your lashes darker?

Should have listened in chemistry, obviously!

DumbledoresGirl · 03/08/2008 11:42

I don't wear make up. My mother has never done so either and I suppose I just did not grow up seeing it as a normal thing. I prefer natural things anyway, so that adds to my reasons. I have seen unattractive women made up professionally and seen what it can do for their looks so I know I could be made to look more beautiful, but I actually just think I look like a not very attractive woman wearing paint: weird.

If I met a woman not wearing make-up, I would not notice the fact. I only notice women who wear excessive make up.

Bumdiddley · 03/08/2008 13:47

I rarely wear make up, I tend to end up looking like Aunt Sally.

I have never plucked my eyebrows.

wilchil64 · 03/08/2008 17:28

I can't wear makeup as I have psoriasis and if I wear mascara for a day or two I get very sore dry itchy skin around my eyes and look a right mess. So I have to do without any eye make up. I do wear a little blusher and natural lip stick if going out, but try to wear as little eye make up as possible. However, if I could I would wear mascara every day, because I look better with it.

thumbwitch · 03/08/2008 22:22

poppycake - I actually had a bet with the beauty therapist I worked with - she bet she could tint my eyelashes without getting peroxide in my eye and I said every time I had it done I got peroxide in my eye - I won the bet. And trust me, I didn't cheat!!
I think the peroxide is there to make your eyelash more porous to take up the dye better. If there are any beauty therapists around, i'm sure they'll know.

Bumdiddley - I have never plucked my eyebrows either. I have had them waxed twice, but the 2nd time too much was taken away so never again.

Cicatrice · 04/08/2008 11:23

I used to wear a LOT of make up when I was younger (of the Goth persuasion) and it did make me look "coloured in" rather than "better". Which was the point.

I don't wear make up now. I couldn't stand the smell when I was pregnant, didn't have time when I was on Maternity Lear and conspicuously failed to buy any before going back to work.

I don't think I look bad. Could do with a haircut though thats far more of a problem.

Bink · 04/08/2008 11:33

I was really stumped by Maternity "Lear" there cicatrice - first I thought it was a kind of makeup (as in a special pregnancy makeup), then I thought it was something Shakespearean, then I momentarily entertained the idea of you on a private jet.

Then I twigged

LadyThompson · 04/08/2008 12:52

Do I wear it? You bet. I don't wear tons but I wear it every day - a little time lavished on making yourself look better is time well spent imo. Hey, I'm worth it [tosses locks]

alexpolismum · 04/08/2008 14:51

Bumdiddley - I'm glad you said that - it made me feel less wierd. I have never plucked my eyebrows either. I actually like my thick eyebrows, I don't see thinner, plucked ones as being more beautiful.

I also don't wear any make up - the way I see it, I'm beautiful enough just as I am , there's nothing wrong with the way I look naturally.

I don't judge other women who do wear make up, though, it's entirely up to them, I just don't feel the need for it personally.

Bumdiddley · 04/08/2008 15:27

alexpolismum - I just never got round to it IYSWIM? I have never looked in the mirror I thought 'Heavens, they need plucking'.

I did kohl them once after I had dyed my hair black when I was 17 - big mistake
