after reading a few threads on here its got me thinking,
if people can't stand to see other or children in certain clothes what do they think about non make up wearing women?

I don't wear makeup. I have severely allergic eyes and the no-make-up look is far more attractive than the panda eye look or the red-eyed drunk look. I spent years trying all sorts of supposedly hypo-allergenic mascara and found none I could tolerate. I don't need foundation as have pretty good skin (as I don't wear foundation etc etc) and I think lipstick on it's own with my colouring looks absurd.

I am very pale with virtually transparent eyelashes. I used to have lovely skin. I made sure I looked after it very well. I ate well, drank lots of water and made sure I got enough sleep. It even managed to look reasonable after two babies and no sleep.

Once I got used to the naked eye lash look I was happy with the way I looked. I had my hair done well and had nice skin.

And then I was diagnosed with cancer and now it's a constant battle not to look shite.

But quite frankly, all the time, I've always been astounded by the number of people who choose to draw conclusions about women who don't wear make-up. In my case it's medical but really, honestly, WTF has it got to do with you. I don't quite say that to people but I am often pretty short with them. I've been asked quite often and it can be bloody rude.

Quattrocento · 31/07/2008 20:26

I've got lots of make-up that I buy every now and again, whenever I get trapped by those predatory women in Harvey Nicks or John Lewis. I always buy Lancome for so it co-ordinates on my dressing table. Ornamental in a different way.

See I think it is better for skin to be naked. Certainly better for mine.

I'd like to know how the trowellers get out of the house in the morning.

girlnextdoor · 31/07/2008 20:27

well, i won't answer the front door without make up.

I am very pale with shadows under my eyes and although my skin is in great condition- so I am told!- I look like death without some foundation, blusher and mascara.

My whole routine takes 15 minutes and that's it!

girlnextdoor · 31/07/2008 20:29

Make up can be good for your skin, tbh.

I use factor 40 sunblock every day, Clinique City Block, under make up, and my my moisturiser has spf 25 anyway.

Make up actually protects the skin from the sun and pollution, as long as you cleanse every night properly.

I don't wear make up. I am not a painted dolly. Make myself all pretty because what? My natural face is not good enough?

Women everywhere are expected to do various things to themselves for what? To make themselves attractive? Acceptable? Bollocks to all that shit.

we elongate our necks

we bind our feet

put plates in our lips

and in our ears

and cover our faces with shite

All of these have what in common? the men of the culture in question prefer it, value it, like it. So we wag our tails, roll over and please our masters.

Fuck.
That.

PrimulaVeris · 31/07/2008 20:31

I wear very little makeup

I don't really like the 'made up' look (but maybe that's because I can remember the '80s ..)

My routine takes less that 2 mins

Quattrocento · 31/07/2008 20:33

15 minutes to put make-up on!!!

ExterminAitch · 31/07/2008 20:33

actually... imo and ime the men in our culture don't much like makeup so much as grooming, and i think that's quite consistent with most of the animal kingdom.

Shitehawk · 31/07/2008 20:34

Remind me again why I should feel the need to cover my face with pore-blocking, spot-causing, eye-itching chemicals, when it's a perfectly good face as it is?

Can't see why it should be of any interest to anyone else if or why I don't wear slap.

girlnextdoor · 31/07/2008 20:34

lol hecate!!!!

Are you serious?

I don't do it for any weird sociological reasons- I do it cos I like the results on me!

I know I look better with the full works and I am vain.

I like make up and when I look in the mirror I want to be happy with what I see- and that means I look better with foundation, concealer, eye pencil, blusher, eye shadow and lippy.

I also think that as people have to look at me, I owe it to them to look as good as I can!

Suppose you have hairy legs and armpits too then?

Quattrocento · 31/07/2008 20:35

Cor blimey have you really got to the point of not going outside without any slap on?

noddyholder · 31/07/2008 20:35

I love wearing make up and have always been addicted but find as I get older i look worse with more and have recently stopped wearing it unless going out (esp if I have fake tanned) I think I look younger without which is weird.I do think it looks great on young skin and eyes though

yes quattorcento!

I can be showered and painted in 20 mins- foundation 5mins at most, ditto eye shadow, pencil and mascara, blusher and slick of lip gloss. easy peasy.

I have got a make up box with compartments to cut down on rummaging time!

noonki · 31/07/2008 20:38

I would never judge anyone on if they wore makeup

I would judge the fuck out of them if they judged someone for wearing make up

cornsilk · 31/07/2008 20:38

I only wear make up when I go out. I love to put it on. Couldn't do it every day. I wear tinted moisturiser for general gadding about, no eye make up or anything. When I see women with a mask of make up I just think it makes them look old.

Ohhh, right; and not removing body hair is right up there with smelly armpits and stained t-shirts, GND?

Embrace your inner yeti, that's what I say.

mankymummy · 31/07/2008 20:39

i dont wear makeup.

i never have.

well thats not true, i owned a mascara block when i was about 13 and wore that with blue eyeshadow but since then thats been it.

im sure i looked more gorgeous then than i do now.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 31/07/2008 20:40

I don't wear make up. Bought some recently. Put some on, felt ridiculous.Took it off.

Although I have to say since turning 37 I'm not so sure the natural look works quite so well.

Hecate · 31/07/2008 20:40

No hairy armpits - I don't like the sweaty smell!

Yes hairy legs.

We have been conditioned to believe that we look better with make up, that we need to wear makeup - we believe the lie because it has been fed to us for generations. It's NOT the truth. We don't look 'better' with makeup, we look painted with makeup and we have been brainwashed into believing that it is preferable to not colouring in our faces.

Ripeberry · 31/07/2008 20:41

I rarely wear makeup, just put eyeliner on.
Can't stand any kind of foundation as have sensitive skin and the slightest thing makes it itch!
Also i still get teenage spots , never had them when i was a teenager!
But at least it's a good sign as it means your skin is quite young.
I've tried moisturising but even the non-blocking lotions give me spots!

girlnextdoor · 31/07/2008 20:41

cornsilk- it depends on how they wear it- too much make up in the wrong colours and textures makes you look old.

People think I am much younger than I am-and it's down partly to taking real care of my skin- SPF every day from my mid 30s.

anyway- who cares- it's what you want to do that matters.

I don't care if people don't wear makeup but it really doesn't cause spots etc etc. unless you are using the wrong type for your skin.

kittywise · 31/07/2008 20:42

I do have some make up but hardly ever wear it.
I actually think it is awful that women have to paint their faces to look better, men don't.

I wish women had enough confidence not to wear it. Wearing it is saying 'I'm not good enough as I am' which is so sad.
