Yes,I know,none of my business

Last night DH & I enjoyed a rare night out. As we were waiting in the queue for our taxi home two attractive girls who couldn't have been more than 18 got out of the taxi & headed across the road to a local nightclub. As they emerged from the taxi I couldnt believe it.I am not exagerating when I say one of the girls was wearing a skirt that was so tight & short her bum cleavage was totally visible. I find this offensive & can't believe a girl would leave the house dressed like this. I believe its nobody else's business how a girl wishes to present herself but I can't understand why anyone would agree with this particular look.

It is none of your business, but you are entitled to find it offensive if that's how you feel.
I wore minis way back, and some girls wore them so short they probably rivalled the girls you saw last night...in fact they could have been their grandma's.

Pesonally I dont like it, especially when schoolgirls in school uniforms wear their skirts so short you can see their knickers ... hopefully they will grow up and garner a bit more class in their dress sense.

Most of us do.

Posters are all very accepting of this , but I do think they would do a double take in real life . We went to a couple of low key music festivals over the summer and I was a bit surprised by some of the girls wearing flared skirts so short they were constantly showing their bum cheeks, not just if they moved , but literally all the time . I assume it was a deliberate look .

What can you do though ? I wish manufacturers wouldn't push these tiny clothes onto women as fashion, i was out last weekend to a pub and there was a hen party in and they were wearing what I would describe as hankies, but i don't find it offensive,
.i am sure some older woman tutted at me wearing a sheer blouse with a bra underneath in the 90s !

I've seen this lately. Tasselled or wide belt, thong and arse on full display, like on a beach.

I hate it too and I really think it's an ugly tasteless fashion, but there's nothing we can do about it, people can dress like tits if they want to. The good news is that fashion changes so at some point someone is going to be new and edgy and counter culture by wearing something that covers their arse (a standard micro mini would do it) and that'll be the new movement.

I truly don't think they do it to entice men. I think to them it's just fashion and edginess.

He obviously noticed & just shook his head.

Yes I bet he noticed, and you noticed him noticing.

Idayatatime · Yesterday 15:07

Everyone has their own standards. My teenage relatives are very fashionable but wouldn't dream of showing their bum so yes its news to me that this is popular. I'm sorry if my post has annoyed people. I actually thought there would be a lot of agreement but I was obviously wrong.I will leave it there.

I'm highlighting the trend not the person

It's not a trend. Her skirt probably just rode up.

Do you have any teenage children? Lots of them wear this type of thing and a lot less.

They are allowed.

I remember when my son first started going to discos years ago, I had not been out myself in years and I was shocked at how little the girls were wearing and then I realised they were my friends daughters and I just needed to cop myself on.

Why would you need to cop yourself on though? Were the boys wearing next to nothing, as well?

rememberingthem · Yesterday 15:11

I saw a young girl wearing similar in town during the day last week! You could see the bottom of her bum cheeks! It looks so cheap and tacky and gets them all the wrong kind of attention.

It’s rhe word offensive I think. And rhe judgment.

i roll my eyes at it, I still remember, even at the age of 57, dressing in a risqué way in my late teens and early 20s. I saw some of my daughter’s friends do it.

None do it for the male gaze, they do it for fashion, risqué, revelling in their own youth and sexuality,

the issue was your scorn and outrage, the level of judgement you poured on these women, who are at liberty to dress as they please, and not for your approval

I’ve seen quite a few girls with literally half their arses out on a night out, intentionally (as in that’s how short the skirt was and they were walking down the street) . I wouldn’t ever have worn that but who cares! People have a lot of their cleavage out all the time on nights out, no difference to me as long as they have knickers on, these girls were wearing a g string.

InLawTwats · Yesterday 15:13

How do you feel about the burka, OP? I assume you’re against that too……. which would be a double standard.

What do you your clothes look like?

Retne · Yesterday 15:14

Idayatatime · Yesterday 14:55

When a guy walks along with his trousers & pants pulled down to mid bum I find it offensive so thats your answer.

Do you know the difference between distateful and offensive?

Mju · Yesterday 15:16

It's disgusting and crass. The same way we dislike men sagging as well. But people don't seem to have any ideas of modesty and appropriate dress.

LaurieFairyCake · Yesterday 15:19

I don’t like seeing other peoples arses anywhere.

Thong bikinis on the beach I also dislike, it’s just so much flesh. Totally fine with naked saunas as there’s a cultural reason for them but can’t do with seeing arses in public

Mju · Yesterday 15:27

They should expect people to look at their knickers/arses and know they'd get a comment or two and not have the faux naivety of "how dare they look".

Loads of people will agree with you, they just won't admit it on here.😏

No, people still shouldn't comment. Dressing like a tasteless tit still isn't an excuse to be harassed.

ETA: Commenting to the arse barers, I mean. Sniggering anonymously at how stupid the fashion is is fine.

Yes this with bells on !

Thedogscollar · Yesterday 15:35

I think young people today are influenced by so many things.
Peer pressure plays a huge part. Their desire to fit in and feel accepted by their friends. Trends influence clothing and the young, as we were once, will always dress to align with the latest pop star or in these days influencers and their peers.
Personal expression affects us all. We all choose the clothes we buy it's a form of identity which is most definitely explored to the maximum as a teenager.
Teens are continually exploring autonomy over their own bodies and clothing choices. It starts with their school uniforms.

Would I have found it offensive, not really as that's the wrong word imo. It would only be deemed as offensive to some if she was walking into a school or a religious building or living within a traditional or conservative culture.

I'm assuming you saw this young woman on a weekend night out in the UK so no she was not wearing offensive clothing. Only you have chosen to be offended by it.

Unless you are the mum.
I don't have a daughter, I have a son, but if I did, I would have plenty to say if she was dressed to go out showing her bare bum cheeks.

I think you have misunderstood , the women are not on here, nor did they comment to the op, there was no faux naivety no how dare fhey look.

I would assume they barely even noticed the op coming over all hyacinth bucket and her husband having a good look, and would care even less if they didn’t notice and know what she was thinking, they were just cracking on with their night.

i never went out with my arse out, but I wore short skirts, or low cut tops, any older peiple in my vicinity didn’t even make it into my consciousness, they were so irrelevant to me.

KiwiGolden · Yesterday 15:43

DD18 went out Friday and Saturday night in what I can only describe as scraps of clothing. I offered both her and her friend a coat each and they laughed as they were heading out the door.

Not sure where she gets it from because I never show any flesh off.

I just hope it's a phase she'll come out of soon as it's not a look I particularly like but she's an adult and nothing I can do about it.

Newmeagain · Yesterday 15:44

I think there is a lot of pressure for some girls, in some social circles, to dress this way because they think this is expected. I don’t find it “offensive” but I do think there it’s sad when girls and young women think this is expected.

I’m not sure that’s true, as fashion is so wide ranging now. They do it as they wish to, as many women have always done, since the sixties and rhe mini skirt and pill.
