Last night DH & I enjoyed a rare night out. As we were waiting in the queue for our taxi home two attractive girls who couldn't have been more than 18 got out of the taxi & headed across the road to a local nightclub. As they emerged from the taxi I couldnt believe it.I am not exagerating when I say one of the girls was wearing a skirt that was so tight & short her bum cleavage was totally visible. I find this offensive & can't believe a girl would leave the house dressed like this. I believe its nobody else's business how a girl wishes to present herself but I can't understand why anyone would agree with this particular look.

When?

Read her posts,

All thus as the ops husband got a look at an attractive young woman in revealing clothing and irs made her furious due to her own insecurities

There's so much wrong and disgusting with this post it's hard to know where to start.

Then just scroll by if it's causing you so much angst.

Read her posts,

They'll just come back and say "it says looks like whores, not that they actually are one!" like happened earlier in the thread.
As if that makes a difference 🙄

Hotdogsandfries · Yesterday 20:55

I cannot believe a 50+ year old woman is posting this shit about two 18 year olds on a night out. Disgraceful.

When?

18:44pm "So true. If a girl doesn't have the confidence to dress without looking like a whore then thats sad & doing nothing for equality."

ThatCyanCat · Yesterday 20:55

ladychatterleyscook · Yesterday 20:47

I agree.
Interestingly though, all bar one seem to be in 'clubbing' areas, so I doubt they'd be wearing boilersuits.
(In the last event quoted police could find no proof of the incident)

OP, this is the kind of... person who's thrown their hand in with you. Someone who thinks girls who don't wear boiler suits deserve to be abducted or at least bear some responsibility for it. They even include an incident that apparently has no evidence of happening... presumably this is so they can blame women for causing sexual attacks, and also for making them up, depending on which sexist pile of shite is required in a particular moment. Schrodinger's Non Boiler Suited Woman.

Well done.

Absolutely nonsense. It was me who pointed it out😳

It might have been my 17 year old daughter and her friend! Gorgeous girls/young women. Went out wearing barely anything this weekend. They absolutely don't do it for male attention. They are strong and confident. They also know it offends older people like my mum and they don't really care. Nor should they. They are young and revelling in their gorgeousness and youth and I assume that they will grow out of it.

Rather proves my earlier point doesn’t it. Being incredibly proud of a 17 year old girl going out with her friend wearing barely anything, and revelling in the fact that I upsets their grandmother. What a society we live in 😵‍💫

What does empowered mean in this situation?
What’s the end goal? What is the pinacle of empowerment in this situation?

A gradual progression to see through clothing? This trend already visible in Hollywood red carpets etc will work its way to the high street - but the girls’/women who wear the high street version won’t have an assortment of minders watching over them.
Perhaps it could evolve to underwear only before moving onto full nudity?

And then the collection of mumsneters’ who
can see no benefit in collective societal standards can celebrate this victory of complete empowerment and body confidence, while the rest of us will see naked, vulnerable women and a general society that’s a bit less pleasant to live in.

Excellent

Why won't you respond to the many comments calling you out for your victim blaming? You listed those real life incidents of abduction to argue that women who dress in short skirts get targeted by men seeking prostitutes. Meaning you think that's what those victims were doing. Conflating them like you did is disgusting.

Typical MN faux outrage.
Misquote what someone said and then get all outraged about what it was thought they said.

There's nobody thats wants empowerment for women than me. I created this thread because I see flashing your bum on a night out as the complete opposite.

Not caring that people are wanting you to cover up and be "proper" and "modest" or whatever isn't the same as revelling in upsetting them.
It just means they're confident in their own bodies and clothing choices and aren't bowing down to "shame" tactics just because older family members disapprove.

Is this all you've got? What am I saying. Of course it is.

It's difficult, though, because on the one hand, I see now that you're clearly on the wind up (how lucky for you that these attitudes don't endanger you). On the other, you do obviously clearly believe this stuff, which is why you feel the need to go on a wind up about it. Some people wear crap clothes to feel powerful, some people do what you're doing.

If OP could get her husband to stop eyeing up women in front of her, and you could treat women like people and get some much-wanted attention that way... well, MN would be more pleasant this evening, anyway.

Funny yes,but why would a young woman make herself a victim of ridicule which is exactly one of my points.

Who was ridiculing her?

Well, now you've posters suggesting the victims of real life abduction attempts must've been wearing skimpy clothes that made them look like whores. So well done, great thread. 🙄

worldshottestmom · Yesterday 21:04

I have seen this quite regularly and agree it isn't pleasant. I'm all for showing off your assets but for God's sake have some decency. Tight, short, skimpy clothes don't bother me at all, but if I can fully see your arse/vulva then ffs just put it away. It's more about respecting yourself and others at that point and keeping yourself safe. Akin to flashing in a sense, I just don't want to see it. Inb4 "dOnT lOoK tHeN" ye ok

Must admit I seen A LOTTTTT of underage teenage girls trick or treating last night in their costumes and some were frankly concerning. A girl as young as 13-14 dressed as Harley Quinn in them tiny booty shorts and crop top it was honestly disturbing, you could see everything on first look. When she walked round the corner was already trying to pull them down a bit to cover herself and I just felt bad for her tbh, she had no coat either it was freezing. Grown women doing it is one thing but young teens should just not.

My teenage relatives also don't agree with girls going out at night in skirts showing their bum cheeks. This has nothing to do with ageism.
