Last night DH & I enjoyed a rare night out. As we were waiting in the queue for our taxi home two attractive girls who couldn't have been more than 18 got out of the taxi & headed across the road to a local nightclub. As they emerged from the taxi I couldnt believe it.I am not exagerating when I say one of the girls was wearing a skirt that was so tight & short her bum cleavage was totally visible. I find this offensive & can't believe a girl would leave the house dressed like this. I believe its nobody else's business how a girl wishes to present herself but I can't understand why anyone would agree with this particular look.

Well I’ve never seen that, and I’m not sure I will take your word for it either.

I've seen that sort of "artwork" on girls white knickers when they bend down with too short a skirt. Usually on schoolgirls. Maybe schools are spending so much on breakfast clubs they've no money left for bog paper ?

Of course he did simply because its what's designed to attract. Im all for girls dressing sexily but there should be limits in what is sexy and what is utterly disgusting.

I believe therein lays the heart of your disgust and disdain.

Who makes you the Fashion/Morality Police though?

Exactly, sort your perving husband out rather than trying to police others clothes.

Ah so now we get to thr crux of it,

BurnoutGP · Yesterday 19:49

OP you are beyond vile and seems like you are raising equally vile sons. Who seems to believe "women get what they deserve" based on how they dress. I guess you don't have daughters. I would be beyond disappointed if one of my daughters brought someone like your son home who seems to value young women on how they dress.
Can i suggest you take a long hard look at your posts and reflect on how you value and blame women. Am actually shocked and disgusted

Idayatatime · Yesterday 19:44

I'm honestly not horrible. I was simply shocked at seeing a lovely looking young girl walking into a night club with her bum cheeks on show. Anyone who thinks this is acceptable needs to take a long hard look at where their limits are when it comes to dress sense.

Shocked you might have been, but you still don't need to denigrate the girls in question by calling them whores and saying they're not decent. That's where you lose the moral high ground.

I’m also disgusted by the sheer fury and the terms the ops used. All becaude her husband had a look, they were attractive and she’s jealous

Ah so now we get to thr crux of it,

Yep. I did think it seemed a really OTT reaction to what is ultimately just a stupid and tasteless fashion but not a moral disaster or mark of character. That explains it all. If OP is going to lecture people about "long hard looks", she should start with her husband.

ladychatterleyscook · Yesterday 19:54

cubedcube · Yesterday 18:43

I think I have confused you. I was simply pointing out that some people (no matter how wrong) will judge you on your clothing. Acknowledging that judgement exists isn’t perpetuating it.

That is a fact of life and you can't do anything about it.
So IMO your clothes should say something positive about you..

And herself, she’s blaming the young women, not him, and the words she’s used are so utterly derogatory and shameful,

What makes you think they lack self respect?

You have given moral value to clothes. Maybe they simply dont share that view and their self respect doesnt come from what clothes they choose to wear in a nightclub

Maybe they do, maybe they don't, but wearing the "uniform" of prostitutes in red-light areas isn't actually sending out a positive message about the wearer.

Yes it does. It says the wearer has the body confidence to dress any damn way she wants. Isn't that what we want for young women, to feel empowered in their bodies?

Your DH might've shaken his head but I'd bet a million quid he had a sneaky gawp

This is the same poster who on another thread criticised wide-legged trousers as "manly". I therefore think we know where her fashion taste lands – somewhere back in the dark ages.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · Yesterday 20:11

Give your hair a wash and stick a bit of lipstick on. You might find your husband looks at you instead. Or just wind your neck in.

And run the risk of being solicited by punters? I don't think so.

BetsyBigNose · Yesterday 20:15

This is such a misogynistic thread that I wouldn't be surprised if OP was a man. It's disappointing that some women find it appropriate to come onto Mumsnet and talk about other women in such derogatory terms.

Oh do give over. You think the kind of sleazy men who seek out prostitutes to sleep with are bowling up to young women in bars and asking for a price list just because they're wearing a short skirt?

They are the most fuckwitted punters if they truly can't tell the difference between a young woman out with her friends while wearing a shit outfit, and a woman who is actually soliciting. Despite what you are clearly vividly fantasising, they are actually pretty easy to tell apart.

The fault is with the punters anyway. Women with bad dress sense aren't a moral failure. Men who try to purchase women are.

I wondered that, and it could be. However, I think it is a woman because she's angry that her husband had a look - that looks to be the root of the issue. Men who do this also tend to crap on more about how tragic it is that these women clearly aren't "wife material" and therefore will be punished because these dudes will not choose them (as if these young girls would give them a second glance anyway). OP prefers to crap on about how immoral and disgusting it is. It's a subtle but important difference.

But she didn't ? She said they were dressed as one would suppose sex workers would be. Not that they actually were prostitutes.
