@BitterHarvest i work from home myself too. A few changes recently

  • Always brushing my hair fully
  • A decent cut / no roots showing - use colour wow or root touch up
  • Eyebrows threaded
  • bit of jewellery
  • Clean nails
  • Lipstick
  • Perfume
  • More fitted clothes - i wear a blazer when on work calls, plus i have a ring light to make me look more polished
  • Flattering clothes like wide legged trousers and a fitted top - try and balance things out
  • M&S have really upped their game so worth trying them out

The best thing ive done though is use chat gpt to analyse a picture of myself. From that it pulled together several looks in my style for the school run and work. I even put in a few tops that i was struggling to style and it made them work.

I’m not sure rhe op acrually works from home, she seems to say she is Both a house wife and have paid employment,

Skin care routine:
Morning : medic8 vitamin D serum, waleda moisturiser, supergoop spf.
Evening: retinol (I used prescription strength bought in France), keilhs midnight oil.
Super simple!

Mary46 · Yesterday 17:17

Hi op a blazer is nice too. Do you like reds or burgundy? I bought a few nice blazers from penneys. You can add a bit of jewellry with them

This TikTok has some great ideas. Really simple but gorgeous and would work for almost any figure, I think! Lots of button downs and wider jeans. The shoe can make all the difference too. https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSgmUmSDf/

As another poster said, when it comes to makeup, simple can be great! Some bb cream, mascara, and lip gloss can make all the difference. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable in yourself!

SoThatsTheWayItIs · Yesterday 17:19

To be honest I thought you had poster a picture of your husband. There is nothing flattering about those clothes. I’m sure you’re not a minger by a long shot but it’s really hard to tell your body shape from those clothes.

Hobnobbled · Yesterday 17:28

Start with your eyebrows and any beard/moustache. Get a decent haircut, possibly some colour too. Tuck the jumper in and bag it out again. That length is very unflattering - clings to your middle.

Jugglingjuggling · Yesterday 17:28

Take a full selfie in natural light with your hair down put that and a full length picture, your height, weight, dress size into AI and ask it for your colour season and what clothes styles would suit your shape it's been great at giving me some basic guidelines around colours that compliment me and the best jeans shape for my figure etc!

I’m no colour expert but that outfit is something Mrs Weasley would force Ron to wear against his will, I can confidently say you should get rid.

I’d start with a) what colours do you like? and b) is there anyone online that reflects what you’d like to wear?

Good figure. Can't advise on hair as don't bother with mine. If you feel you're looking tired/old, then get retinol or strong vitamin C - at least 20% - to apply before bed. For really heavy duty stuff, get Ret A directly - never tried it myself but I've read good things about Dermatica on here. Sun protection is essential with these so line up a good SPF50. I use nivea.

If you do want to start wearing makeup, then prioritise liquid foundation that emphasises hydration. Powders and minerals settle into fine lines.

I must say it’s the colours which I thought about first too. If you have a Mediterranean skin tone or that very pale redhead look where the skin is yellow toned rather than pink, these colours are ok (although there are better ones. Russet. Ochre. Olive. And so on. However if you’re a typical Brit with pink toned (cool) skin these colours will make you look dreadful and you should be looking at colours like pale or cobalt blue, purples, cool (blue) red, cold yellows, anything cool based.

No clothes will look good if they’re the wrong colour for you. Have a look at YouTube, there will be loads of stuff on there about finding colours which work with your skin.

May I say I think you’ve been terrifically clever coming for advice. Sure you’ll get some hair raising responses, but we do love a makeover and people on here give brilliant advice.

Edited to say I just zoomed in on your hand and (sorry) I suspect you have cool toned skin and THE WHOLE OUTFIT HAS TO GO 🤣. Makeup wise go look at Bare Monerals, they’re as good as Laura Geller but each colour is labelled cool or warm so you can’t go wrong xx

😂 Ouch!

I think bright colours would do wonders. I couldn’t be bothered with makeup at home, but how about getting a gel manicure?

I love your shoes. Get some nice Nordic socks.

Skybluecoat · Yesterday 17:54

The Birkenstock clogs are great. The trousers aren’t too bad, but the jumper is really not doing you any favours.

Re make up, I don’t wear it if staying home but if venturing out just to shops etc I pop on some powder blusher, eyeliner and mascara, and a light pink lipstick. Only use foundation etc if going out out.

Robogob · Yesterday 17:56

Try and get engaged with fashion. Really try to enjoy it and study it. Buy Vogue, Elle etc.

Work with your body. Get obsessed with a couple of trends. I, for instance, am honing in on anything that’s royal purple.

I think it’s so much easier to live something that you love. A lot of women say they don’t care what’s in or out of fashion. But I love the excitement of getting to grips with part of something that’s ever changing and doubling back on itself.

Get inspired and good luck. Also you don’t look like a size 18. Are you sure? X

wizzywig · Yesterday 17:56

I thought this was your husband. Op do you have a plan in place to support the glow up? Eg, commit to having a regular haircut or whatever it is that needs work on ?

Katrinawaves · Yesterday 17:56

I honestly can’t tell you are a size 18 in that photo. Your shape looks good to me but the clothes are very shapeless and unflattering colours for most people.

I can understand why you don’t want to post your unobscured photo publicly but I would echo the other suggestion to post the photo you’ve already taken into an Ai tool (I use chat gpt but if you have Gemini or copilot they would work too).

Your prompt is effectively your opening post on this thread but add the words “be honest and don’t try to compliment me”. And ask advice. When it returns the first answer, read it and ask follow up up questions based on what you already have in your wardrobe (take photos of what’s hanging up or in your drawers). Then when clothes are sorted ask it about your hair and skincare. You don’t need makeup if you don’t want to. Men look absolutely fine without it so why can’t women?

I don’t Get the good figure comments, you can’t see the ops figure,

She's dressed it in a knitted bin-bag, that's why. But you can see she is slim with a waist.

Is that jumper even remotely your size? The colours are terrible too.

OP you've got great bones there, just ditch the sea of brown and try some neutrals or nice colours in a flattering size.

Primark have some lovely fitted jumpers this year.

BitterHarvest · Yesterday 17:58

Jesus Mary and Joseph. I wasn’t prepared for that! “Is this you or your husband”
😂😂😂. I guess there is no turning back. Trousers and Jumper going on Vinted tonight! Town here I come tomo.

Maxandme · Yesterday 18:01

I think you need to wear some brighter colours or add more contrast. Something that stands out. It looks like you are purposely trying to camouflage yourself in that outfit 😂

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · Yesterday 18:02

I must admit that I thought the photo was of your husband. Even for a man, I think the outfit is old fashioned and drab. Sorry.

I think it’s worth going to a big M&S and trying a load of jeans on as a starting point.

momtoboys · Yesterday 18:02

I know exactly how you feel. My DH gets better looking every year. How can that be?? I, on the other hand, look like a big, old hag.

😂😂😂

on the high street I actually really like m&s for classic pieces and online I like Saint and Sophia - good for flattering wardrobe staples.

how big is your town - mine the Debenhams closed a couple of years ago but when it was open you could do personal stylist appointments. I never did it myself but a few friends did - one when she needed a MoB dress and one when she got a new job and both raved about it
