Yes or no to lounge sets?

This would be for mainly wearing in the house, but might pop to the shops in it. It's not the sort of thing I usually go for but thought it would look better than pyjamas when someone pops round unexpectedly, or when I want to be comfy at home but still look stylish enough to have a guest round.

Are they stylish or are they tacky? I'm 53 if that's relevant? https://www.marksandspencer.com/modal-blend-sandwash-cropped-sweatshirt/p/clp61227265

Several times lately while on the S&B board I’ve mistakenly thought I was on AIBU. The snarking and snobbery from a number of posters is really nasty and there’s absolutely no need for it. It reminds me of the mean-girl clique from my school days. I’m sure they think they’re being witty and clever but in reality they should be bloody ashamed of their shitty comments.

Awful, sorry.

Buy something that will actually make you feel happy to wear. This will feel as if you've given up on life. The colour is grim and the shape looks grim. There is no person in the world who looks good in a round-neck top.

The outfit in the opening post is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen. I agree it would make me feel I'd given up on life.

So a Jumper? And a
pair of fairly smart looking trouser?

I would mix up the colours as you’re at risk of looking like a giant turd but other than that 🤷 fine

Edited

😂

I like it. I think matchy is nice. Love a co-ord. Go for it. I wore something similar yesterday, brown soft M&S bottoms and brown cashmere jumper. I was so comfy and my husband and friend who called in both told me I looked nice.

Booksandwine80 · 27/09/2026 08:39

I like them and will probably get some
this winter for WFH and school run. I did have a friend pop round unexpectedly yesterday and I was wearing joggers and a t shirt as I had been doing housework and I didn’t feel like a slob

SailingYachty · 27/09/2026 10:10

I couldn’t bring myself to wear both together, there’s just something about wearing one colour head to toe like that that I really don’t like!, I think it you got a few different styles and colours you could mix and match them and look less like you’re wearing an updated tracksuit.

Agree. Sometimes I think the bitchiest most superior comments come from those who are the furthest from designer labels and current trends than anyone! But pretend they are... We can see through it, well I can mostly. 😊

I’ve just bought my first pair of cuffed joggers and put them on today. Good lord, what a fucking joy. The comfort is unreal. No high waisted, stiff jeans or waistbands digging it!

Got them from Arne in taupe. They are so thick. I’ve decided they will be my Sunday clothes ☺️they do non cuffed as well.

I picked up a takeaway last night wearing my super soft M&S joggers and matching hoodie (from the children’s section, totally recommend) wearing my crocs. The shame! 😂

Don’t you have any old clothes? I can’t get my head around buying new clothes to sit around in at home. I was forced to buy ‘loungewear’ during lockdown because all my old stuff turned to rags after repeated wear - but in general I honestly don’t see the point. I’d much rather save the money for the good stuff I wear outside the house.

I’m afraid I wouldn’t pay anything at all for modal and polyester.

This. Spending money on cheap and nasty man made fabrics to sit on the sofa: what's wrong with a t-shirt and jeans?

Also the whole concept of "loungewear" is naff as hell.

SeenYourArse · 27/09/2026 17:06

FallingAwake · 25/09/2026 15:43

Not for me.

Pyjamas, fair enough -everyone's allowed to be a slob from time to time - just don't pretend otherwise by wearing a fancy pants 'lounge set'.

So I’d love you to explain what exactly about wearing a brand new M&S cosy tracksuit whilst freshly showered, hair and make up done and working makes you a slob?? What do YOU think is appropriate clothing for spending a day mostly in your own home that doesn’t make you a slob?! Would love to know if it’s not a £60 co ordinated lightweight tracksuit! Hardly see through bobbly primary leggings is it 🙄

imperious twats aren’t for me either 🙄

Because jeans have no stretch and can mark pale sofas and chairs

Lifeislikeaboxofchocolate · 27/09/2026 17:14

Not keen on the colours but would definitely go for a lounge set

All the more reason not to have pale sofas and chairs. Life's too short to have to buy fugly clothes in case they mark a highly impractical piece of furniture.

Sunbringer · 27/09/2026 18:24

They’re neither stylish nor tacky. They’re clothes to slob around in - nobody pays much attention to someone wearing one. It’s like wearing a sensible grey coat or a pair of flat orthopedic shoes. They are simply tracksuits by another name.

People don’t wear jeans to lounge around in because their jeans are too tight and therefore are uncomfortable.

Saw one in marks today. Thought no

hardshoulderr · 27/09/2026 18:38

It's custody chic

JoyousWriter · 27/09/2026 18:49

Absolutely not.

IamEarthymama · 27/09/2026 18:53

I bought wide leg trousers in navy and burgundy and a top in burgundy last yea.
They are really comfortable.
However one day I put on the burgundy top and trousers together.
I had been spending some time at our local hospital and discovered I looked as though I was wearing scrubs!
Like others I like them but I wouldn't wear them to go out for lunch etc.

cityliving99 · 27/09/2026 18:55

I have always wanted the cashmere set from The White Company …..

Can anyone recommend any all cotton ones that they think are good quality and wash well?
