Yes or no to lounge sets?

This would be for mainly wearing in the house, but might pop to the shops in it. It's not the sort of thing I usually go for but thought it would look better than pyjamas when someone pops round unexpectedly, or when I want to be comfy at home but still look stylish enough to have a guest round.

Are they stylish or are they tacky? I'm 53 if that's relevant? https://www.marksandspencer.com/modal-blend-sandwash-cropped-sweatshirt/p/clp61227265

I can't make up my mind if they're just a new updated tracksuit wear, or PJ's. Fine at home, wouldn't be seen out in public (but then I'd never wear them anyway).

Also I can't understand how people think they are 'smart'. In what way?!?

So if scuba material then very waterproof?!

Scuba wetsuits are not waterproof 😂

This is a really interesting question. I often see photos online of women supposedly wearing these to go to the airport. They all look amazing but I wonder whether it's just because they are model thin, super made up and the sets are brand new, gleaming white and untouched by a tumble dryer.

If you are average size or even bigger and living a real life, is it possible for these things to look stylish on a long haul flight? I really wanna know!!!

It's because they are young and beautiful - they would look good wearing a sack! 😉

I see a lot of people wearing lounge sets at the airport, especially around holiday times. It's not a choice I'd make (I've had too many things spilled on me on planes), but I don't think they look any worse than other casual choices. They are probably super comfortable for travel.

Supportbritishfarmers · 26/09/2026 10:23

I think the people saying it's chavy are a little harsh. As long as the lounge suit doesn't say Juicy across the bum and it isn't paired with giant hoop earrings and stilettos then it's fine, even for nipping out to the shop in.

Nelliemellie · 26/09/2026 10:54

Uniqlo 3d stretch lounge pants and tops, I went mad a few years ago and bought several sets in their sale, they have been going strong for at least 5 years now and still look good, wearing in the house and out.

I was joking about the Pam Gavin and Stacey reference. Some of the sets do look nice and they are comfy. Also, I am a big believer in if you like it wear it. It would be very dull if we all dressed the same

Loverurarliving01 · 26/09/2026 12:02

Polyester? Viscose? No thank you.

For that amount of money, you can easily find 100% cotton on other websites.

The whole point of this outfit is to be comfortable, yet it’s made from petroleum-based synthetic materials, which I wouldn’t want against my skin.

I wouldn’t wear it if it was free.

Daffodils88 · 26/09/2026 12:03

I’m a newcomer to matching loungewear & am in my 40s/tall. I needed something I could easily pull on & off & looks fairly presentable to wear to hospital for weekly chemo/radiotherapy. I got a couple of these sets, in different colours, from Primark, which do just that. I wouldn’t have worn them otherwise though.

I’m genuinely intrigued by your comment about spilling on planes (me too btw!) - why is a coord set such a big no no for spilling? What do you wear on a plane? A swim suit? Please explain because I don’t understand.

pokewomans · 26/09/2026 13:03

We were talking about these this morning, my friend it’s the new velour tracksuit. I remember loving those 😆

I want something that's easily packable if I have to change because someone has spilled wine/coffee/ice cream on me again. A bulky pair of joggers or a sweatshirt is going to take up quite a bit of real estate in my luggage. If I had better luck I might risk it, but I don't lol.

omghereistrouble · 26/09/2026 14:01

to me its just the new name for a track suit or pjs. i am wearing a sweat top and leggings today so i guess that is a sort of lounge set. whatever keeps you comfy and warm to me

Neuronimo · 26/09/2026 14:16

I'd love one for at home, as our living room is chilly. I haven't seen many petite ones around. I'd not wear it outside, unless it was a quick dash in and out of a chop. I'm not sure why. Maybe they look a bit like pyjamas?

PowerRangerGoGo · 26/09/2026 14:32

Why, is your husband the arbiter on all things related to women’s fashion? 😆

Well, unless that poster's husband says that every time she gets dressed in the morning, it suggests he noted the outfit and liked it 🤷‍♀️ . Says something

There's no need to be rude, I'm just trying to help the OP. I think it looks ok to be seen in and I was just making the point that my view that I looked nice was reinforced by someone else.

it was a joke!

(it was a joke! - just not a very funny one)

TheChosenTwo · 26/09/2026 09:14

Same here!

anyway it’s a no to lounge sets to me, they either a matching tracksuit or pyjamas neither of which I would wear.
I just wear my normal clothes when I’m home unless I’ve had a bath and then I’ll put on some joggers and a tshirt.
its the matchy matchy I don’t like, it’s a toddler look!

I love toddler clothes and wish they'd do them for adults. They're just so soft, particularly the fleeces. Haven't found anything as soft as toddler fleeces.

Amazon sell them but they're not promoted as petite

If you wear dark coloured trousers you can wet wipe off spills and then even if there's a mark left nobody notices when you stand up. If you were wearing a plain light coloured pair of trousers it will look a right state if you spill drink or drop a bit of food on it. I am not a messy person but I can guarantee that I will drop something on me if I am wearing something light.

Ah I see! I was so puzzled (doesn’t take much!) I get you now!

Im going away on Tuesday. I won’t be wearing a coord because I like to have many layers when travelling.

TrafficConeTheft · 26/09/2026 16:17

Buy the loungewear.
I love loungewear. I’m a pyjama lover too, but popping to the shops or walking the dog in your pyjamas is frowned upon, which is why I love loungewear.

Gettingbysomehow · 26/09/2026 16:46

You should have seen what was said about my leopard trainer boots OP. Its a good thing I have a thick skin!
I went out and bought some more.
I suggest you go and buy this set in every colour available if you love it 😂

ilovesushi · 26/09/2026 17:54

Love a lounge set. Yes yes and yes. You will be comfy and gorgeous.
