I think etiquette is that it’s polite to shake hands with a gloveless hand. You need to ‘press the flesh’ as it were!

Yes, I think that's why Daisy did it.

Ingrid looks really lovely but I don't understand wearing one long white glove in sharp contrast with her outfit.

justasking111 · 23/10/2026 13:51

Any sign of Max? Haven't seen her around this autumn much.

Pallisers · 23/10/2026 14:39

I love Sofia's blue dress. And that photo of Leti in the red dress and the earrings - if I had jewellery like that I'd be wearing all the time.

smilesy · 23/10/2026 14:43

Is Ingrid’s other glove tucked in to her sash like a false hand? 😆

Getting ready for Halloween perhaps?! 😀

Perhaps it's different in different countries. The late Queen didn't generally remove her gloves to shake hands; neither does Princess Anne.

I'm American, and I was taught that women didn't need to remove gloves to shake hands, but ideally it should be the same for both sexes.

Choux · 23/10/2026 17:03

@FraiseRoyale it’s not a situation I have ever been in but apparently it is fine to shake hands in evening gloves except if you are meeting a head of state or a high ranking government or church official.

Royal Families can be very traditional and follow protocols closely. If Ingrid Alexandra was about to meet the Norwegian Govt she was ready as she walked into the event. Typically at UK state dinners you don’t see the receiving line so perhaps the gloves are removed away from the press. Or perhaps the UK are not so rigid on this rule. Kate has only worn evening gloves at one state dinner - the S Korean one (I just checked the Tatler link above) - even though they are always white tie events.

Mary and Maxima sometimes wear only one glove on arrival even at daytime events so perhaps they are more traditional in their countries. And if Princess Anne wore gloves to open a new museum she would not be meeting anyone senior enough to require her to remove her gloves.

Thank you, @justasking111- that's a happy memory for me because I saw the collection in the Kremlin some years ago. That crown really is incredible.
The Kremlin is amazing, I always hold out hope that I can go back one day!

The Spanish RF looking as well put together as ever at the Princess of Asturias awards. Leonor really stands out in that dress (as she should, as she's presenting the awards) and I like her earrings too.

They also continue to fly the flag for low heels and flats, and why not?

The Spanish family elegant as ever, I like the colour of Leonor's dress and Sofia looks very good in the dark blue.

Thanks Deftly for the pictures of Max, it's good to see her resurfacing! I love the red.

Ah school holidays. She does look lovely in red.

smilesy · Yesterday 08:34

Max looks fab in the red. I don’t think she would ever “wear out her welcome” 😆

Banjas · Yesterday 09:07

Mathilde looks lovely sitting beside Maxima at some conference.
The bright red really suits her.
Is that at the UN ?

Yes, I think so. I agree it's a nice look for Mathilde.

Can anyone work out what's round Max's head in the first picture?

No idea!
It looks odd.

Looks like she’s had a run-in with a TV aerial. 😂

😉 I do like how she tries things out, but that may be a step too far!
