The Edinburghs didn't seem to be there for dinner.
Anne looked as if she had been seated in a draught before. The queen also was looking snugly dressed.
(I have just bought a new cardigan for an event in a castle!)

I saw Anne in a cardigan over a gown last winter. I suspect that hall is cold. I remember having a meal in an ancient property once. DH had to go to the car for an old sweater of his for me. We skipped dessert and coffee. There were those gas heaters on wheels in the room trying vainly to warm things up. 🥶

Looking at some of the photos of the guests seated at the banquet it all looks very cosy! Not much elbow room at all. I suspect I would be fairly useless in such a cramped space and would be wearing my dinner fairly quickly.

In case anyone is interested the menu was Scottish langoustine and Cornish crab, pot roasted Windsor pheasant and stuffed cabbage, individual baked alaskas with Balmoral plum and Windsor Estate honey ice cream.

If I can't get into the tiara rooms I'd love to go behind the scenes for one of these banquets and see the logistics of how it all works.

I read one headline that it was an unusual State visit as the Sultan has a home in London so left from his front door in London

I take no credit for this thought, another poster on a different thread wondered if Camilla and Catherine were doing a Jill Biden and wearing the yellow and blue of the Ukraine flag.

It could be just a coincidence but Camilla’s amethysts didn’t match the dress. I would have gone with sapphires or just diamonds against the blue.

Ive just read that Catherine's yellow banquet dress (which I was sniffy about upthread) was one from Elie Saab' collection, a Lebanese couturier - 'an Arab dress for an Arab guest'. I'll forgive her the unflattering colour 👏

It was also leopard print, yellow on yellow. I’m guessing it’s much nicer in real life.

Yes, it wasn’t a solid yellow, but had a two tone pattern, not sure if it is obvious in this photo.

The pattern presumably showed better in motion.

Her outfit today is a bit drab.

I can't see the pattern at all. I've had cataracts done while they were treating other eye issues so my sight is now excellent.

Yes probably, but she’s visiting a hospice isn’t she? I just think it looks a bit warm to wear, it’s not quite that cold yet.

I’d love to go to that, especially as it looks like Bayeux Tapestry visit isn’t happening for me.

I’m in the NE and it was cold this morning but it’s 12 degrees and sunny now, assumed it would be warmer in the south.

I’m very excited about the jewel exhibit.

The leopard print on the yellow is interesting - I’ve seen suggestions that it may refer to the endangered Asian leopard in Oman.

Catherine is also (slightly) limited in style of evening wear since her chemotherapy - she is presumably avoiding styles that will show any scars.

She has not worn any dress that will expose the right upper side of her chest since she returned from her illness.

I don't think she wore particularly low cut styles even before, did she? There are lots more options for high-necked designs but once she finds a style she likes she runs with it!

State banquets, of course, have particular dress codes, but I think it’s the case even for her recent general evening events compared to earlier ones.
