Did anyone get an email with a liberty survey with a chance to win the advent calendar? I didn't have time yesterday but when I opened it today it said it has closed. That's a bit odd. I wanted to give feedback on why I decided not to buy it.

I got screened out because I don’t spend enough on lipstick / gloss/ other lip stuff on a monthly basis

BabyPigeon · 26/09/2026 19:04

@FieldofMusic. Thanks for replying anyway. I was a bit deflated the survey was closed, I'm a drop box member but I'm really debating if I should cancel it, I'll wait till the next box.

JoRaRaRa · 26/09/2026 19:11

I've just listed the makeup by mario palette from the Sephora bac on vinted, I know a few people were after one 😊

If I win the lottery this weekend (which I haven't entered 😂) I shall be buying this. I even have the perfect spot for the advent cabinet.

Said to DH "here's something you could get me for Christmas." He laughed. I was serious! In my dreams.

You could try smell training as well. I’d suggest choosing 4–6 strong and easily recognizable scents, for example coffee, garlic, cloves, honey, lemon, or vanilla.
Smell each one gently for around 10–20 seconds and try to focus on remembering what that scent should normally smell like. You can do this twice a day and keep it up consistently for a few months.
I’d probably stick with the same scents for a while, as it may make it easier to notice any small changes or improvements over time.

I have the scent kit from Scent Recover and did start using it for a few weeks but stopped when I went on holiday. A friend has checked the jars are still potent so I am starting again. In fact should start tonight!

AdventAdoration · 26/09/2026 19:48

FFS, just found out I’ll likely be in hosp in dec after major surgery. I wasn’t going to get an BAC anyway for a few reasons, but have always so enjoyed the threads where people open them esp ones like Harrods’.

so I’m just posting to say, instead of your mindless consumerism you should concentrate on what’s important like family etc and be thankful in the advent period.

but, fuck that Grin I’m actually just here to say, buy as many ACs as you want and enjoy as much as you want and be as happy and excited as poss! And having spreadsheets and plent of discussion is hardly mindless, it’s actually a good cognitive work out. (I feel it shouldn’t be outsourced to ai but that’s my personal opinion, although when it comes to ACs we shld def apply critical thinking. Such as flights and mules and justifying. You though don’t need to justify! You want it, you can afford it, it’ll make you happy. Go for it and take pleasure in it. Xmas Smile

JoRaRaRa · 26/09/2026 19:59

@AdventAdoration I hope your surgery goes well. Make sure you treat yourself 😊

SheilaFentiman · 26/09/2026 20:23

@AdventAdoration best of luck and I hope - if it would make you smile - that you can get a discounted advent for the new year.

@TeamChaos Image attached here:

@TeamChaosi have both Liberty and Harrods as well. I had issues with both- damaged products in Harrods and an early use by date in Liberty but both sorted. As others have said, it depends on what your wife likes but I would be very very happy if someone bought me either of them!!

All the best for your surgery. You definitely deserve a January advent (or 3).

And I bloody agree - my life has been a limbo for 5 months because my DH has been very ill in critical care (things are now finally looking up though) and a bit of mindless consumerism (not insane amounts but more than I’d normally indulge in) has been helping to keep me sane / helping to distract me and cheer myself up. These threads have been fun and enjoyable, it’s important to enjoy the fluffy and light side of life.

AdventAdoration · 26/09/2026 20:30

Thank you @JoRaRaRaand @SheilaFentimani will so def be getting treats when I’m released and well enough! Will be looking for GWPs etc Grin
And actually, I’m lucky to have so many nice adult children and a DH I have no doubt in December I’ll have daily messages even if I can’t reply, and a FaceTime whenn I can! I’ll def look forward to that even if it interrrupa me reading an opening thread Smile

Addictedtobeauty · 26/09/2026 20:33

@TeamChaos I think Fortnum and Mason would make a gorgeous gift- no ones suggested that one to you yet.

I bet you thought it would be really easy to come on and get advice and all we’ve done is through your plan into disarray 😂.

I’m so sorry to hear that, I’m glad you are coming through it. It’s amazing isn’t it (unless it’s a total emergency or in resus etc) how much waiting there is in hospital, esp in CC and HDU etc. I’m a frequent patient and once we have hugged if possible and talked if possible, I always encourage dh to just sit as he normally and scroll his phone while I doze. No point him lovingly staring into my face while he could be looking at gifts to buy me Smile

seriously tho. All the best to you and your dh.Flowers

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 26/09/2026 20:37

Yes I thought Fortnum and Mason too. That was one of the first ones I ordered and I’m so excited for it. Previously the most luxurious things I’d ordered from F&M were Christmas pudding (soooo good, I have a spare in the cupboard!) and Salmon roe. Delicious. The advent calendar is quite an upgrade though!

AdventAdoration · 26/09/2026 20:37

I need to go through my fragrances again as I’ve still got a box of gift sets I bought last year from Escentual.

I wore the Phlur vanilla skin again yesterday for work and I kept getting a whiff of it throughout the day, it was lovely, it was like every time I thought “is it home time yet?” I could smell it and it really lifted my mood 😊

Its so nice, ive used the space nk 20% off and some credit i had to buy a full size. Im not into fragrance the way most of you are but I love this one

Pinkballoon5 · 26/09/2026 21:12

SavageGarden23 · 26/09/2026 11:22

Just bought JL candle advent, I love aery candles and heard good stuff here about Voluspa but they are quite pricy. I was giving strong hints to my partner about it but he flat out said he isn't thinking about buying me anything yet... so like Miley says I can buy myself candles. At around 8 quid per candle its a bargain for someone like me who loves candle.I have managed to melt the bottom pane of our TV with an anthropologie candle so I am banned from lighting one in the lounge...but come autumn it will be candles galore en mi casa.

Got this last year and it was absolutely divine, gave me and DD so much festive joy

keepincool · 26/09/2026 21:12

@TeamChaos , I was also going to suggest the Fortnum & Mason advent calendar. It was the first beauty calendar that I received as a gift and I loved it. I've actually purchased it again this year.

The Beauty Detective has a good list of advent calendars and their contents, with links to the products so you can do a bit more research

I think some of the products are ones I've had on my list to try for ages. The reviews on the boots website are saying the image is AI at its worst. Does the calendar not look like the picture?

I saw those reviews, it looks just like the picture to me . I think they were talking about the AI picture on the front saying it’s AI at its worst.
I hate it when people give a poor review for something like this and not actually really reviewing the calendar.

I was in the same position last year as you’re facing this year. I had bought many adverts to distract myself pre surgery, but really didn’t have it in me to care much after the op…mostly ended up opening in January.
I hope everything goes well and you have a good recovery, that is the most importantl thing right now 🥰🥰🥰

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 26/09/2026 21:26

@Goldleafcat sorry to hear that & hope things keep getting better for you & DH.

The Shishiedo calendar is nearly £40 off, but at £151 I’m still not really blown away by the contents. Have I reached BAC capacity already? Surely not in my first year?
