I did manage to get some freebies on the website, or I should say that Santa did 🀭 If I'm going to get one, I'd like the Penhaligon's but we'll see. I still plan to buy the sfac and the BT which has a lot fragrances in, so I'm not going to be in need.

That said, if anyone wants to sell me the baroness one from the penhaligon's, pm me πŸ™πŸ»

I am the same re not needing any more fragrances and have the Valaya and Delina exclusif from the Harrods FAC and still have a number of 10ml from the Escentual set last year.
I am also planning on ordering Brown Thomas and hoping JL FAC is available online tomorrow and those should be my last advent purchases until the sales.

IlovePond · 20/09/2026 17:04

That’s shocking about the Lumene being out of date - there’s zero excuse for this with a single brand calendar which has come direct from the company concerned.

Tbh, I don’t think there’s any excuse for Liberty either, as I am sure they knew exactly what they were doing supplying short-dated/expired goods, but somehow it seems even worse when it’s a company with its own products!

On a related note:

I woke up this morning with massive buyer’s remorse regarding yesterday’s SK shopping extravaganza, but I am comforting myself with the knowledge that at least I will know how old it all is!

@IDontHateRainbows Yeah I would've got it if it was oriana. I love that one 😍 the pdm goodies are good, but I prefer it to be cheaper, esp as others have said, there's the candle and a 5ml not included this year.

@MrsBnow12 i agree, must wait for the sales, waiting is not really our thing though 🀭

SheilaFentiman · 20/09/2026 17:52

@RoseTeaLady are you typing a code like this into check fresh?

1b9e1

Because I have tried a code like that from my advent eye cream and from my bought-this-year vit C serum and they are both coming up with a 2021 manufacturing date. Which does make me wonder if checkfresh is correct.

RoseTeaLady · 20/09/2026 17:57

@SheilaFentiman That’s exactly what I’m doing and now you’ve got me wondering. Hopefully it’s wrong and I can enjoy my lovely products next month. I think I’m going to open them anyway and, as long as they look and smell ok, use them. Thanks πŸ™πŸ»

SheilaFentiman · 20/09/2026 17:57

Similarly, I have two Glow Awakening Eye Creams, one from the calendar and one still in its retail box and they both come up as manufactured 5+ years ago on check fresh.

SheilaFentiman · 20/09/2026 17:59

@RoseTeaLady if you read the comment I posted, Lumene are - I think - saying that for many products, there isn’t an expiry date per se, just a β€œuse within x months of opening”

But if your products smell off, of course, let them know!

IlovePond · 20/09/2026 18:31

CheckFresh is a very accurate site on the whole, @RoseTeaLady - but there are other sites you can cross check with such as the Lotdate app.

Basically, companies recycle their codes every ten years, so if you get a result within the last decade, it’s more likely to be accurate than not.

Sadly, a 2021 DoM for products in a 2025 a/c doesn’t surprise me in the least in the light of recent revelations.

Next beauty - for example - were selling beauty boxes full of products recently that were years out of date.

I myself got a concealer in a GB box that I only found out was eight years old πŸ™€ when I tried to repurchase a spare and found the product had been discontinued years earlier and then I used CheckFresh to check its DoM.

To all intents and purposes it looked, smelled and felt fine, (which is why I hadn’t realised), but it’s not a good idea to use stuff that old and I was really angry with GlossyBox!

OP posts:
SheilaFentiman · 20/09/2026 18:33

Hmmm.

My understanding is that skincare should have an unopened shelf life of at least 3 years (or say on the box if not). Why shouldn’t the skincare be older than that if it’s safety tested to that extent?

As per the codes I put in from purchased Lumene products, the advent calendar and the retail products are coming up the same sort of vintage.

IDontHateRainbows · 20/09/2026 18:41

I just opened my space nk BAC and honestly, I think I'm done with them. I don't know if they've got worse or if I've just got fatigue but very few things excited me. Possibly a bit of both? I just seem to remember them being better a few years ago, 2024 was a peak year for me.

I think I'll stick to FACs now as fragrance is really my thing, any frags in the BACs I can pick up on ebay. Liberty I still think sets the standard for BACs and I'll continue to buy the edits throughout the year, but I just don't feel inspired by most of the BACs anymore. I was in both JL and selfridges this weekend and could have bought there and then but left on the shelf. SNK I only bought as I'm very brand loyal, and will get points.

RoseTeaLady · 20/09/2026 18:43

@IlovePond @SheilaFentiman

Thank you both. I’ll wait to hear back from Lumene and post their response on here.

Yes. The liberty men's one is excellent.

Yes. The liberty men's one is excellent.

I second this

TreesinthePark · 20/09/2026 18:58

@IDontHateRainbows I had the 2024 SNK advent and loved it. I'm still using some of the products and many have become staples such as the ILIA mascara and Summer Fridays lip balm. I didn't fancy last years and thought this year was even worse 😬

I accept we're a tough crowd to please as maybe top 10% of beauty shoppers (!) but this year felt like SNK didn't even try.

Sephora was my pick for 2026 because SDJ aside, most of the products aren't in every other edit/kit/advent.

Liberty should have been an automatic purchase with my credit but I passed this year.

Luckily I love perfume and the fragrance advents have made up for the BAC disappointment. Good to see Boots and JL launching their FACs too.

IlovePond · 20/09/2026 19:16

@TreesinthePark - I agree with you about SNK - I really liked it in 2024 but couldn’t bring myself to spend that kind of money on one a/c.

I had decided to go for SNK in 2025, but then didn’t rate it at all so went for Liberty, (despite all the awful - to me perfumes).

This year’s SNK is, imo, worse than 2025’s in terms of what I would use.

However, I did wobble a bit when I saw it all out on display in store.

Unlike Liberty’s, (which looked very poor in its display case in store - although the box is undeniably lovely, as is the bag), SNK’s display was very impressive.

OP posts:
IDontHateRainbows · 20/09/2026 19:30

I think I probably just caved in to the excitement of the SNK advent being in store, and didn't scrutinise the contents. Of course a lot of people won't be scrutinising contents as they want the daily suprise - is that how they are getting us? Feels a bit bait and switch. I may consider Sephora but ONLY if the contents are good, I will not be swayed by hype.

Still excited for LF frag and the perfume shop, selfridges frag and if they do one, SNK frag. After the very derisory fragrances in SNK this year ( 1 x debaser in bloom 1 x phlur missing person and do I even count the gisou hair scent?) I am hopeful of a SNK fragrance calendar but there's been no news of it yet and I would have thought there might have. Maybe beauty detective will know.

IDontHateRainbows · 20/09/2026 19:31

I take that as appearances being deceptive as I would rate Liberty x 1000 over SNK. I am really into their perfumes though. If you don't like those I can see it being a bit of a waste.

pinkchampagne1 · 20/09/2026 19:39

I agree that the SNK calendar seems very disappointing this year. It is the one I thought might compete with Harrods for me but it didn’t even slightly tempt me. The only products that interest me in the calendar are the Medik8 serum and the Sunday Riley Good Genes as I have nearly run out of it. I picked up the GG on Vinted for Β£20.
It does seem like they haven’t even tried this year. Why put in 2 mascaras but no eyeshadow? And the most expensive product in the calendar is a 100ml body cream! 😐 I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t sell out quickly this year, especially with the price increase.

OvaHere · 20/09/2026 19:49

I agree with you all about SNK this year. The product value is there but the curation felt a bit off. Two mascaras for example. I know one is black and the other brown but there should be a min of one in an advent at that price. Use the other slot for something more exciting.

In other news just had an email from LF - they are offering a Β£10 digital gift card if you buy the advent.

LagoLady · 20/09/2026 20:04

@IDontHateRainbows That was my favourite ever advent, but I’ve just realised that I’m still using some of those products, which means they’ve been opened for almost 2 years Shock

@OvaHere Interesting about LF. I hope this means we’ll see other discounts and offers with other calendars this week

Oh yes..I was thinking that too, I still haven’t finished a few of those, or even have a couple unopened 😳

Realtnamara · 20/09/2026 20:19

Hi everyone. Can’t believe I never knew this group existed! Long time lover of Beauty advent calendars here. Good to know I am not the only one trying hard to restrain myself. Lovely to see such a supportive group of like minded souls.
Usually I am a Sephora calendar girl. But this year transferred allegiance to Selfridges. Beautiful products, beautiful pacakaging but a bit lip heavy I thought. Maybe one more body product wouldn’t have gone amiss.
Waiting patiently for Brown Thomas. Skincare and niche fragrance to make every heart sing. Zero padding, zero fillers. Straight to the jugular with every product in that one.
Loved the look of Harrods Fragrance as well. But they refused to deliver to NI. Could have cried at checkout. Oh well. Can’t have everything. Lol
Really enjoyed reading the thread this evening. Also wanted to say- Appreciate the heads up re.short dated products. Had never crossed my mind previously. So thank you! Enjoy Advent build up everyone!

Oh yes..I was thinking that too, I still haven’t finished a few of those, or even have a couple unopened 😳

It was a star of a calendar , it got me into Paula’s choice , Violette SPF , Hourglass blush and Sisley black rose face mask . All of these I love and have repurchased . But it was my first BIG Bbac . I think I am a bit jaded as well with all the edits . I did love last years Liberty but this years didn’t do it for me which hurts because I love the boxes .

I wonder if I’ll ever get that first buzz again . This is not a good sentence πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
