I was in H Beauty in Edinburgh yesterday and tried out a few of the perfumes from the FAC as I am considering buying it on Ebay from one of the resellers. I had it in my shopping basket, interrupted by urgent phone call from alarm people because 90 year old FiL had set off his alert bracelet, dealt with that and it had sold out.

I liked enough of them that it would have been a good buy and chatting to the lovely young man (which makes me sounds about a hundred!) in the perfume department he was horrified by my tale of woe, told me to hang on dashed off and came back looking regretful - he thought he'd seen one in the stock room but sadly not... I was impressed that he tried because CS is often lacking these days. And I know that also makes me sound about a hundred.

PS - The Born To Stand Out Golden Milk smelled so rank I had to get some micellar water from the Charlotte Tilbury counter to get it off my wrist! Apparently it's very Marmite - does anyone here like it? If I do buy it that one will be straight on Vinted!

The BTSO was sadly not good. Not as bad as the MFK Oud Velvet Mood though. That one was truly bad. A shame because I like Oud Satin Mood and wish they had put that one in.

could you not sell on ebay? Vinted is on the way out with the stupid selling restrictions. Particualry around beauty products.

I still find things sell so much faster on Vinted than eBay. I’ve sold 17 items from my two HFACs in 5 days. I’m fairly new to Vinted, I’ve been on it for 3-4 months, but things I had sat on eBay for months sold within a few days.

I’ve taken note of the Vinted bans and moved a lot of stuff over to Ebay. It’s v refreshing to post the price you want and getting it, without all the crazy offers.

I’m not sure that the less-known brands will sell though, there’s not as many beauty lovers hunting for bargains so I’m mainly using it for higher value items.

Ebay is absolutely dead over here. Almost no one uses it. It also does not let me chose automated calculated shipping. I need a computer for that as it doesnt support a phone. I just gave up with it after an hour.

I've sold on Ebay many years ago but im on vinted thses last 18 months.
I did try Ebay but all changed and fave up halfway through
I have plenty of stiff and have resisted all advents upto now as just cant be mithered selling stuff im not interested in or know I dont like ofwhich theres a lot so not bothered.
Im in uk and only use mobile so maybe Ebay wouldnt be any good anyway if some stuff you need a laptop to sort out πŸ€·πŸ€”πŸ€ͺ

OvaHere · 18/09/2026 11:57

I've sold a few things on eBay but they can take a while. I sometimes put higher value things on there.

I sold a complete Space NK gwp for Β£50 a while back which took about 3 days to sell but I did get the full asking price. I didn't put it on Vinted because I knew I'd be inundated with people offering a tenner.

I don't mind offers, even lowish ones on some stuff, but if I have a price in mind for slightly more special stuff and I'm confident of it selling I'm okay with it taking a bit longer.

ElizabethG81 · 18/09/2026 12:08

I’ve just got a permanent Vinted ban 🫣 If anyone here has bought the Murad cream, Sunday Riley tidal or the Anua cream from me yesterday then I apologise but Vinted is not even letting me generate the labels to complete those orders πŸ™„

I sell loads on there as a pro seller..apx 30 items a week.

Agreed. Ebay all the way. I sold half the perfumes from my Harrods calendar and made the entire cost back, all through Ebay, all easy peasy. Vinted in the other hand have me a 5 day ban for attempting to sell one of them unsealed (it wasnt sealed to begin with!!)

I actually feel quite relieved and happy to just use eBay now πŸ˜‚ Vinted is increasingly ridiculous. I’m just annoyed that the people who ordered those items aren’t going to get them and I have no way of communicating with them, it won’t let me send them a message or anything. I’d hope Vinted would cancel the orders but it doesn’t look like that’s what’s happened, I feel like they’ll just be left in limbo until it gets past 7 days and it will just appear to them that I haven’t sent the items?

It’s just ludicrous to me that you have a selling platform and then get upset when people sell items and then ban them πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

It's ridiculous. Have they given you any sort of reason?

IDontHateRainbows · 18/09/2026 13:22

Vinted is a pain to sell on with all the lowballers and the non binding offers. Ebay at least you can set a minimum offer price, and offers are binding. I'm actually a little bit pleased its on the way out as I prefer Ebay but they lost a lot of share to Vinted last year.

ElizabethG81 · 18/09/2026 13:22

OvaHere · 18/09/2026 13:02

Just that they think it’s commercial selling. They gave me a temporary ban for that at some point last year, then I had a more recent temporary ban because they thought something was used (it wasn’t), so I suppose it’s the next step to permanently ban me.

MidnightMeltdown · 18/09/2026 13:24

I use eBay too. In fact I’ve sold 3 items on eBay in the past 24 hours (2 clothing and 1 beauty).

I have a Vinted account but find it a pain due to all the time wasters constantly sending low ball offers. Can’t be bothered with that.

ElizabethG81 · 18/09/2026 13:26

I’ll not miss the low offers. What annoys me most (sorry if anyone does this!) is people who just message an offer, like they just say β€œ10?” All it tells me is they’ve run out of offers to send as they’re constantly lowballing. Or one I got the other day that offered 60% of the listed price, then came back with a tiny bit more and said β€œbest offer take it or leave it”. I left it πŸ˜„

MidnightMeltdown · 18/09/2026 13:26

EBay have got a lot better as a result of the competition from Vinted, and now have easier listing, simple delivery etc

Any idea what makes them decide it is commercial selling?
I put up 5 unwanted items from my Harrods BAC and have sold 2. I have a few others I don’t think I want and some bits from the Liberty calendar and a few other things, but I am worried if I put them up for sale too they will decide it’s too many items or something.

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 18/09/2026 13:41

Speaking of Vinted, I just bought Lola at Coat Check and Burberry rose petal lipstick from the Selfridges calendar for Β£65, which I'm super happy with. The only remaining thing I want from the Selfridges BAC is the Sol de Janeiro Delicia shower gel, hoping to get that at discount when I remember.

Just got a sample of d'Annam Mango sticky rice and it is so good, must not immediately buy a full bottle for Β£140. Can someone send me some self-control please...

I’ve no idea. I do sell quite a lot, but also limited myself to only posting a few items per day after the temp ban last year. I think they’re just unpredictable to be honest.

The only tip I maybe have is, if you’re selling something without a box, don’t explicitly state that in the listing. I think that’s what triggered them thinking I was selling a used item, when I was just trying to make the listing really clear.

8books · 18/09/2026 14:00

Just opened my Harrods BAC that arrived a few days ago. It’s more unwhelming that I expected. The box just isn’t as pretty as Liberty.

I’ve got 7 things (more than I expected) to sell. Probably on eBay as I hate the ridiculous offers on Vinted! Also, I don’t think they should list a discount voucher as a product! It’s so niche and useless to the majority of buyers.
