I used to laugh at elasticated waists ... 😶

😂

Levis 318. THE BEST JEANS EVER!! (Size down tho)

RubiesandRose · 01/09/2026 15:28

Dcypher custom made foundation. I went to a John Lewis beauty event in July and was colour matched. I was highly sceptical but the sample pot was a revelation and I’ve ordered and used it ever since. Fantastic stuff and highly recommend.

A Huawei Band 11 smart watch. It's really comfortable, not too big, the battery lasts ages (it's currently on 66% after a week of constant wear), and it has got me moving much more than my previous watch, which only counted steps and HR. It was only £34 as well - I'm so impressed with it.

I only want to wear elasticated waists now 😂

Frizzease serum from Superdrug, it’s so good and smells great. Much better than cheaper serums

My top buys this summer are:

Fitflop flip flops in gold - really comfortable and go with everything. I liked them so much I bought a second pair in bronze when they were reduced on Amazon, to wear around the house.

Waterproof gold pendant from Initialled - absolutely gorgeous.

Square neck ribbed vests from New Look - a great length and a supportive fit. Bought about ten, and some of them are designated pool wear - so now have the odd suncream stain etc. But at the price, that’s fine.

Another Chloe Love Story fan - bought in duty free for less than £40 for a big bottle.

Hi @mixingplaydoh which ones are they? Are they the I qushion ones?

Idontjetwashthefucker · 01/09/2026 18:03

The Tutti Frutti jumper from Slow Love, 100% cotton and super comfy...£240 well spent (most I've spent on 1 item in a very long time)

Hair mascara 🤯
brilliant stuff for for away! I had used hair spray for years but hair mascara is far far better!!

Isn’t hair mascara for touching up roots or adding in highlights? A different use to hair spray?

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 01/09/2026 18:11

Tom ford lost cherry perfume. I’ve been struggling with finding THE perfume and bought far too many and go off them quickly in recent years, feeling it’s not quite me. This one I’m obsessed with, so think will stick for quite some time.

ToadRage · 01/09/2026 18:11

I just ordered myself a purple leather jacket. I've grown out of my old battered black leather jacket that i adored.

Neuronimo · 01/09/2026 18:29

I absolutely love Ultra Violette SPF50. I thought I'd made an expensive mistake but it is so glowy, smells gorgeous and is more like a serum than a sunblock. I am also finding I need less make up when I wear it too. It is quite shiny, but you can put make up on if you leave it five minutes or so.

I like Number 7 beautiful skin BB cream, which I've been wearing all summer. I'm not sure I'll need to return to eborian CC cream this winter and it is a lot cheaper.

I also really like the new Laura Ashley Wild Woodland perfume. I think it is slightly similar to Jo Malone's Blackberry and Bay, but you can get a 10ml handbag sized bottle.

Mintyt · 01/09/2026 19:18

@Beebopwasthebest I have just ordered it looks lovely, good reviews fingers crossed

Eminemily · 01/09/2026 19:29

Just been to Bali and bought some tretinoin cream that you cant get in the UK unless on prescription as well as lots of interesting Asian brand serums and lotions. Can’t wait to see my new amazing glowy plump skin in a few months!

Also - two great buys before my holiday - when I gave in to some Facebook ads - a pair of amazing sandals from Calla shoes for my bunions and a ridiculously impressive bikini top for my tiny boobies from an Aussie brand Flatbaby.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 01/09/2026 19:56

Preparing for winter as I struggle with the cold.
A couple of hoodies from MandM Direct in the sale.
Also discovered Heat Holders who do thermal clothing. Bought the soul warming (male version as it's longer) velvety soft hoody in blue. Delighted with it. Light weight, soft & cosy. Currently on offer at £29.99. Decent pockets as well!

Tryonemoretime · 01/09/2026 20:41

A thin gold lurex long sleeve jumper from Mango. It drapes beautifully on me. Have worn it with cream cut offs, but it ought to look lovely with the brown Texel maxi skirt I bought in the John Lewis sale. Also brown ballerina shoes in the Fat Face sale and a new denim jacket to replace my really old one.

Tryonemoretime · 01/09/2026 20:42

Oh. And a pair of M and S brown loafers. I did say I wasn't going to buy anything else from them, but I weakened.

Oh fab, thank you! I really fancy that for winter. I've just been browsing...that website is seriously dangerous for my budget!

Yes, it's scary expensive but they do good sales - I got that skirt for £70! I was wearing it out today with a biker jacket, trainers and a black v-necked t-shirt. I love it!

I save lots of things on Vestiaire, but have never taken the plunge & purchased anything! I think it's probably because they're usually much costlier than anything on eBay/Etsy/Vinted, whether new or vintage. And their photos are so bloody awful that I never feel sure what the item will really look like! So awful, in fact, that even a search of the image via Google Lens often doesn't help.

Do you just take a risk, or are these things you've tried on before, or are they from labels that you know & love & are pretty certain about?

I tend to show for McQueen on there because I actually find there is more choice than ebay or vinted. People are often wildly optimistic with their prices but if they are sensible, they reduce. I had my blazer saved for months before it got down to a price I was happy to pay. Some brands seem to be more popular on ebay, like 90s Donna Karan. But I've bought a few things on vestiaire and I have never had a problem.

But yes, I stick to what I know will fit and suit me, as vestiaire purchases can be an expensive mistake otherwise. A very savvy shopper taught me years ago to get organised when shopping second hand. She used to go to Brown Thomas every new season (Ireland's equivalent of Harvey Nick's) and try on everything she liked and made a note of the names of collections and individual pieces and then set up searches on ebay and wait. Everything comes up on secondhand eventually!

I live rurally but I make a trip into town a few times a year just to browse and try on stuff so I have a good idea of what will suit me when it comes up online.

MurphysColeslaw · 01/09/2026 22:33

@searchforthesun Where did you get your jeans from ? I’m desperate for some low rise jeans especially Levi’s

I know Brown Thomas well! I'm Northern Irish, living in Scotland, with quite a few relatives & friends in Dublin.

And I do similar to your friend - or used to! I've become quite averse to shopping for clothes in big stores - when it used to be one of my favourite activities.

But I do generally know what brands/styles suit me, & set up searches for specific things - including a few vintage labels that I now seem to be collecting! I don't care so much about things being in fashion. It's more about what I like, & what's my personal style. So waiting it out til something appears on eBay is just a matter of patience - six years for one pair of boots!

OneTake · 02/09/2026 00:20

I bought these black mesh boots. Been wearing them all night.
Also a black wrap coat, cross body bag and a new watch.
Boots are my favourite though.

Snap (almost!) I am southern Irish living in Scotland!

I went through an awful phase when my kid were at primary school of trying to find a different look and be very fashionable. I made a LOT of mistakes! Now I am back to head to foot avant garde black and I am having great fun buying up all the 90s fashions that I loved but couldn't afford. Back then, Karen Millen was the height of posh for me and my friends!

GarlicSomething · 02/09/2026 02:48

I bought this (at full price, dammit). I was very unsure about it and it's a bit too big, but I missed the return window. I've hardly been out of it since! It's a joy to wear. If rather fruity.

Now it's under half price, I'm wondering about a second one ...
