Is this too much to wear to the office? I wore it with a belt so wondering if I was over dressed?

Just seen the update picture. Looks fine . Although I’d never wear white as I wouldn’t keep it clean.

PerdreLeBleu · 27/08/2026 12:22

😂😂😂Over dressed??? My first thought without reading the update was that it was a bit casual so totally fine for the office!

JaninefromEastenders · 27/08/2026 12:25

Does it suit your figure and colouring, and does it fit? Then it will be great for the office. If not, it might look a bit shapeless even with a belt, but still perfectly respectable.

BlueMaya · 27/08/2026 12:27

It’s off white, styled with a black belt and black scarf

It depends where you work surely? some places are more formal than others. But it looks nice OP.

It looks a bit like a lab coat.

I would have thrown food or drink down it within 20 minutes...

As long as 20 minutes?

Itsbeenalongtimeincoming · 27/08/2026 12:53

Not too much and certainly not over dressed (under dressed in my office) but you know the dress code of where you work.

As others have said it's a wrinkly, stained mess waiting to happen.

As long as 20 minutes?

Absolutely. I can almost always manage to carry my glass of water back to my desk unscathed. Food, though....

SilenceInside · 27/08/2026 13:04

You look fab, like how you’ve styled the dress which does not look like a lab coat at all.

It’s definitely not “too much” for office wear unless you work somewhere with a very strict and old fashioned dress code which I would guess not otherwise you’d have mentioned it.

EasternStandard · 27/08/2026 13:08

Looks good with the belt, it’s fine for the office.

Cyclingmummy1 · 27/08/2026 13:22

I think it's workwear. I was going to wear a short sleeved version to school last term but thought it might get dirty quickly. I wore it to an Italian restaurant last night and, yes, it's covered in tomato sauce!

BlueMaya · 27/08/2026 13:54

Thank everyone for the generally lovey comments, I lost myself after a horrendous pregnancy, child birth and a child that just didn’t play ball. I’ve managed to lose some weight and feeling more alive again after 4 years, however second guessing everything I’m wearing for some reason!

It looks lovely, especially paired with the belt.

Pistachiocake · 27/08/2026 14:37

I wore white only when it was a "pure office day" without any visits to clients (as I'd have been concerned about getting messed up travelling/walking around, but the only thing I bothered about was visible underwear-with a tank or something it was fine.

You look lovely OP. Mumsnetters seem to have forgotten the rule - if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

This is how I styled it

It looks like you have leggings on one leg and floral trousers on the other underneath?

TourDeChance · 27/08/2026 16:01

Are you a doctor? Or a ghost?

MurphysColeslaw · 27/08/2026 16:04

Are you a research scientist?

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 27/08/2026 16:09

I thought it was overalls for decorating in at first glance.

What a mean little post

MushMonster · 27/08/2026 17:17

It looks good, once styled with the belt.
I do like it and I like your accessories.

What a mean little post

I doubt the intention was to be mean?
I imagine that due to the title of the OP's post many readers were expecting something considerably showier and were bracing themselves.
As it turns out it's a perfectly ordinary shirt dress.
I'm sure the OP looks lovely in it and kudos to her for being confident enough to wear all white.
It wouldn't last an hour looking pristine if I was wearing it.

Blogswife · 27/08/2026 17:51

Looks lovely , very classy but I’d be sure to spill something down the front within minutes of arriving at my desk !

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/08/2026 23:52

Sorry it reminds me of a lab coat like a scientist would wear.

I once wore a white jacket (with gold buttons) to work and a colleague jokingly asked if I would be doing fillings later. I found it funny and we both laughed. So yes, too much white seems to be a no no for work.

Bogstandardname · 27/08/2026 17:59

Definitely needed the belt. Normal shirt dress. Would be too informal for some offices. Not a "meet the client " dress . More for a girls lunch in town.
