Are you a trouser/jeans or a skirt/dress person?

I'm interested in this in a kind of 'statistics' sense. I see a lot of dresses and skirts in stores and online, but not many people wearing them in real life. Even in work related situations, across the board, I see women and girls mostly wearing trousers or jeans.

Might be location specific, I live in a very boring, unpretentious, not very fashion forward area, so it could be skewing things a bit; but I do travel about quite a lot and still maintain that year-round most women are in trousers/jeans.

I will admit that I used to love a well made breezy skirt with a flat waistband and minimal top but I live mostly in straight jeans these days. It is so hard to find that style now amongst the paperbag elastic styles or structural artisanal stuff.

So I am curious, are you mostly in trousers/jeans or skirts/dresses?

Dresses. So easy to just throw on and go.

Those can be just for inspiration. (And there are obviously a million others.)

If you can identify the sort of look that appeals to you I’m sure posters can suggest similar ideas at your preferred budget.

(There’s always pre-owned but you may not have the time or inclination for shopping that way.)

I have realised why I can't wear dresses at home: I can't sit with my legs up or cross legged or half splits or slung over the arm of a chair.

I used to fully be a skirt/dress woman, so much so I was known as “dress lady” in my job 10 years ago, but since putting on about 4 stone I don’t feel comfortable in them and wear jeans and trousers most of the time - I always feel like people are looking at me when I wear a skirt or dress!

Usually jeans / trousers.
Occasionally skirts.
Very rarely dresses.

My grandmothers (born 1920s) never wore trousers. Think one tried it, but reverted. My mum wore lots of skirts in her later life, with tights. Now for me, tights = going out. I really wouldn't feel comfortable in the house in tights. First thing to come off after work, followed by bra.

Imagine if I could actually go to work in my own clothes (like kids think I do). Summer would be slides, primark shorts; no bra; vest top. My watering the garden outside 😆

Oh, I can in my voluminous maxis!

I do have to hitch them when going up stairs, though. I haven't yet started 'delicately' swishing the skirt slightly away from my body like a cut-price Disney princess, I'm just grabbing it as I realise I nearly tripped over myself.

Oddly I’ve never really thought about it but just realised that I hardly ever wear skirts or dresses I wears variety of trousers - jeans, harem pants, wide leg, leggings and shorts in summer but can’t remember last time I wore a dress. Not sure why though

MondeoFan · Today 19:20

I love skirts and dresses bare leg in Summer and tights and Dr Martens in Winter. Wear mainly band T-shirts or blouse with the skirt

Why not?

Why not?

Because all my neighbours would see my knickers. And they are probably already sick of seeing my bikini top.

I worked at home for 25 years and am done with that for good! I can't wait to get out and about more and find new ways to wear stuff. I am drawn to that idea, too - keeping a separate, small collection of items for work and then having fun with the rest. It's sounds like a great idea and would cut out a great deal of 'decision fatigue' generally. If I am able to wear jeans in work, I will probably take the Steve Jobs simplicity route!

Edited

I highly recommend it as an approach.

I only work in the office 3 days a week & 2 from home.

I have about 8 pairs of work trousers ranging from m&s autogtaph, COS, Sezane & me+em

I have more shirts / blouses in varying styles mostly from ba&sh, sezane, whistles, cos

I wear fitted cashmere jumpers in winter & i have a couple of jackets for meetings. I'm v fond of the whistles slim fit jersey blazer & have had several colours over the years. I also have a jigsaw cordorouy jacket which i sometimes wear.

Shoes wise i have toast loafers in dark green, burgundy suede chelsea boots, black leather derbies & a range of hoff trainers

I keep my work stuff together in a section of my wardrobe so its v easy to find an outfit.

I always look tailored & well put together as i have a colour range - black, navy, grey, dark green & burgundy with white / cream

Jeans, trousers and dresses.
I only own 1 skirt.

PetiteParakeet · Today 22:06

Hot summer weather - dresses all the way.
In between weather - jeans and trainers.
Winter - either jeans or short skirts/dresses with a jumper, knitted tights and DMs.
Summer is my happy season for clothes as there are so many nice dresses, and I don’t have to worry about shoes, just wear sandals with everything.

sausageth · Today 22:14

Shorts/jeans for me. I have had phases of wearing dresses and skirts in the past, but I feel like they age me at the moment.

EstherGreenwood63 · Today 22:21

I don't even own a skirt. Dresses strictly high summer only. Jeans and trousers all the way!
