Say like size 14 but curvy or size 10 but no arse and just like a stick.

All the posters saying ‘a size 10 is chunky’, ‘I’m flabby at a size 8’ etc. 🙄

I have run marathons, taken part in open water swimming races and triathlons, hiked 100 miles, lifted big weights etc. in this body. I’m faster when lighter, but I’m certainly not at the back of the pack now either. My ‘bulk’ isn’t inconveniencing anyone and I’m certainly healthier than average.

The point I’m making is that being ‘bigger’ isn’t nearly as scary or disgusting as the tone of this thread would have you believe.

if you are fit then surely you can understand how a size 8 can be flabby? Slim but without muscle will make you look flabby even when slim. And when that slim flabby person gains some more body fat, they will look chunky, even at a relatively small size.

Also I don't think anybody has been horrified by size 14. People can have personal preferences about their own bodies.

At a glance I miss read this as "would you rather have Curry or a skinny figure?"

I came to vote for curry but now realise my mistake.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 23/07/2026 22:03

I'm size 10, and I'm definitely not skinny. I have hips and boobs, but I'm not 'curvy' in the modern/polite meaning of the word ie overweight.

GoddammitPrincess · 23/07/2026 22:16

Jeeez size 10 is skinny???

HeidiLite · 23/07/2026 22:19

if i had to choose between waking up as size 14 tomorrow or a 10 with no bum, I would take the latter and hit the gym to grow glutes. I find building muscle a lot easier and more enjoyable than losing weight from size 14 to the size I prefer to be.

Can I just remind you all that this is the horrific size 14 body you are all so traumatised by? 🤣

(Photo edited only to remove identifying features - body shape etc. remains exactly the same)

To be fair, that doesn't look like most people's idea of a fourteen. I agree with you, though. I find it weird that people say that 14 is 'too fat' but then say that size 6 is not 'too skinny'.

GreggsistentialCrisis · 24/07/2026 14:09

I’m a curvy size 12. I mostly love my figure but I go through periods where I dislike having large boobs as clothes just aren’t designed for them. Unless it’s something skin tight, most fabric just hangs off them making me look like a shapeless rectangle from the side.

That looks like me but I’m a 12, and with 34F boobs

How come? I'm a bit taller than average and at size 14, was definitely too fat. BMI overweight, body fat percentage too high (and I was always sporty and working out). Just because size 16 is now average doesn't automatically mean anything below that is slim.

ThingsCouldBeEasier · 24/07/2026 16:47

Curvy.

Unless you’re very tall, a size 6 can look very nice and be perfectly healthy.

Look at old films or photos - people used to be much slimmer and that was considered normal.

I think what things look like on the screen vs real life are very different and not really a good measure. I have met a few actors in my time and without exception they have looked both very short and very thin - certainly not the average person you would see on the street. I was only a size 6 as a teenager (in the 90s) and looked unhealthily slim.

I'm not saying it can't look nice, and it is healthy if it is natural. However, the same is true of a size 14. It is perfectly possible to be a 14 and not be overweight. I am neither, I am a size 10 and perfectly happy with that. I just think it odd that one extreme (size 6) is praised, while another size (which is actually not as extreme) is decried as unhealthy.

Waitingfordoggo · 24/07/2026 19:05

@SherbetDipDap, I’m not traumatised by people being a size 14. I just don’t want to be a size 14 myself. You look fit and healthy (assuming that’s you in the photo).

Being under or overweight is unhealthy.

Dress size is irrelevant. Or it should be.

ChristmasCwtch · 24/07/2026 20:48

I’m a size 10 and slim and curvy at the same time. BMI 22.

I’ve been a size 14 and size 16 (BMI 31) in the past and I was just fat then, rather than curvy! I’m glad the “body positivity” movement of very obese celebrities has waned.

I much prefer being slimmer! I look better and feel better. I don’t want to be size 14 or size 6. Happy in the middle.

Freyarw · 25/07/2026 17:58

I would much rather have a curvier figure.

cuberoot · 25/07/2026 21:10

I would be happy with my size 14 if I only had a waist :(

willowstar · 26/07/2026 09:33

I was size 14 most of my life until recently lost three stone and am now size 6. I have an athletic build now due to exercise and I feel so much better. Clothes fit and hang well. Much much happier at this size and in this fit body. I am 163cm and 53kg.

BlackSwanDays · 26/07/2026 11:57

Sandytoesies · 22/07/2026 12:59

From nhs Lanarkshire - I know bmi isn’t ideal, but this is a useful guide - pic 2 is at least heaviest normal.

This is just bizarre. Why are all of the women, even those who are underweight per their BMI, depicted as having protruding abdomens as though they are 6 months pregnant?!

As for the OP’s original post and many of the comments, how does anybody think it is acceptable to describe other people as “skinny” rather than slim, unless they want others to also replace the tactful “curvy” with “fat” or “chubby”?

BlackSwanDays · 26/07/2026 12:03

Deadringer · 22/07/2026 16:07

I think a figure halfway between pics 1 and 2 would be about right, but if i had to choose between them I would pick 2. 1 just long very long and lanky to me, fine if that is the way you are made, but I wouldn't aspire to it. 3 is very overweight imo.

Oh great, “lanky” now as well as “skinny”.

Let’s also reintroduce “short arse” then, shall we, if you want to insult tall women as well as slim women. And we can stop using “curvy” and instead say “fat” or “chubby” if people insist on calling slim women “thin” or “skinny” or “sticks” or, as one poster did, comparing them to pre-pubescent boys. Perhaps to counter that we should introduce “blobby”. No?

Then stop insulting tall or slim women.

BlackSwanDays · 26/07/2026 12:06

Illegally18 · 22/07/2026 22:45

Your statement makes no sense. Some people are naturally slim and don't have to 'take care of themselves ' . Though I agree that people are nicer to slim people. And that slim people are generally happier.

This thread shows very clearly how many women manifestly are not nice to other women who happen to be slim.
