Say like size 14 but curvy or size 10 but no arse and just like a stick.

There was an interesting study where men and women chose ideal bodies, women consistently chose much leaner figures than men did.

Lol. So we should try to put on weight and be unhealthy to please men?

No thanks.

As PPs have pointed out, people’s perceptions of a normal weight have been skewed by social conditioning and what they see around them.

Attacking women who happen to be slim and body shaming them with pajorative insults, as many on this thread have done, and then implying men would find them more attractive if they were overweight, is really unpleasant and weird.

Just as women can prefer different body shapes in men, different men will also find different thing attractive. People tend to be attracted to people similar to them so people of a healthy weight will generally want a partner who is similar in that respect, although there will be anomalies. Regardless, how is this relevant to what women should think about their own bodies? Should we be seeking self-worth from male attention?

So unpleasant and also hypocritcal given people who are overweight complain that they are treated badly by others, and yet this thread is full of comments trying to put down slim women.

@BlackSwanDays we are all stuck with our body types whatever our weight, i am a short arse, nothing wrong with that as a description. Op asked us our preferred body types based on the pictures, imo number 1 appears to be lanky, ie tall, thin, and long limbed. Because models are usually like this, a lot of girls and women are pressured to some degree to aspire to that body type, but i personally don't. I am a short arse and fine about it . Unless that picture is of you there is no need for you to to take it personally. This is the Internet, we can all say what we please.

The OP never mentioned pictures.

The OP asked if we would rather be “size 14 but curvy or size 10 but no arse and just like a stick.”

henlake7 · 26/07/2026 14:18

I think Id rather be skinny, clothes would hang better and if I wanted big boobs I could just get a padded bra!
Its much harder to dress a curvy figure I think and I feel like clothing sizes are more geared to less curvy shapes.

Although TBF Im somewhere in the middle! Kinda curvy athletic build.

Apologies I thought the op posted the pictures and replied accordingly. Arse like a stick is a bit mean tbf, I have one of those myself since I got older and have lost weight. 😂

This thread shows very clearly how many women manifestly are not nice to other women who happen to be slim.

Maybe. But women can be nasty to overweight women. And men can be nasty to women who are overweight, or at least dismiss them. . And, I repeat , slim people are generally happier in themselves than overweight people.

My point is the sheer hypocrisy of people complaining that overweight people are insulted or treated badly and simultaneously using pejorative and insulting terms to refer to slim people, particularly women.

True.. But people are nasty to people who have characteristics that they admire as well as people who have characteristics they despise. Which group would you rather be in?

Atleastitsnotsunstroke · 28/07/2026 22:02

I'm naturally slightly curvy. I prefer myself with more weight on. The best aesthetic for me is to weight train and eat a lot of food (win win) as it goes in all the right places.

DrumsPleaseFab · 28/07/2026 22:04

I reject either option and go for athletic please 🙏🙏🙏

Their motivations are irrelevant. Either insulting other people’s appearance is acceptable or it isn’t.

True. But you've been talking solely about slim women. And if you had to choose, which group would do prefer to be in? Which group has , generally speaking, the better deal?

Dubrovnikgirl · 29/07/2026 00:03

I have always been size 8-10, basically curvy. I am 178cm tall and weigh 63kg. I assume this is normal for 45 year old women. My daughter is 15 y/o.
I prefer to stay at this weight because when I gain an extra 2-3kg I feel very heavy, I can't run as easily as I do and my ankles get swollen.
However, when I talked to my husband recently, he said the most important thing throughout his life was being with a lady who is comfortable in her own skin, no matter if she is a size 10 or 20. Confidence is a powerful feeling, loving yourself as you are.

I’d prefer to be slim as it’s better for your health. However, this is not relevant to whether it’s ok to insult people.

What are you trying to say, that it’s fine to be nasty to/ about people if you are jealous of them? That’s a very weird and bitter worldview.

There will always be some people with things you don’t have and some who are worse off than you, in many different aspects of life. Someone having something you wish you had isn’t a justification for spitefulness. Surely most people learn this as a small child?

growinguptobreakingdown · 29/07/2026 14:22

I would just like to stop thinking about my body, exercise, calories, what I've eaten, why iI shouldn't have eaten it, how my clothes feel, if I feel fat, how curvy I am, how my friend is skinnier, how long I can hold out before eating breakfast etc. 40 plus years of it and I'm done with this bullshit.
Size 10, curvy. Sometimes a size 8 and still curvy. When I was actually skinny I was either prepubescent or not digesting any food by throwing it all up. Starting to like my body. Really working on all the above.

Illegally18 · 29/07/2026 16:14

DeftGoldHedgehog · 29/07/2026 16:45

I've always been the sort of shape of the model throwing the apple - though I would guess a little taller and heavier. In my 20s I spend a while trying to look like the other model's shape, thinking my limbs were too muscly. It didn't work, I'd have to be ill not to have muscles. Then I just got on with it- you can't really change your shape, you can either have more or less or yourself!

“Lanky” is as insulting and inappropriate as calling someone a “short arse” or “midget”. The word you were looking for is “tall”.

“Skinny”, “stick”, “thin” are also all derogatory and unpleasant, and just as bad as calling someone a “hippo” or “chubby” or “fat”. The words you use matter. Comparing slim women to pre-pubescent boys and saying they “have no arse” etc — as several posters have on this thread — is just as disgusting as mocking someone for being overweight.

You can cause eating disorders and mental health issues in naturally slim or tall girls by using such insulting terms just like you can for overweight or more heavily built girls by calling them “chubby” or “fat”.

People with larger builds have complained for years stating that it’s unacceptable for people to make unpleasant comments to others about their bodies so the utter hypocrisy of this is quite astonishing.

If you want larger built people to be called “curvy” then you need to use appropriate and non-insulting words for smaller built people i.e. “slim”.

Oh, do give it a rest. I've been very skinny, like BMI 16 skinny. People were a bit rude, but it's nothing compared to what fat people put up with.
