@Nothungrycat im about to return a stripe cotton tshirt (black and white) in small, if it’s what you wanted lmk and I’ll keep you updated on tracking hehe

hicat · 03/10/2026 12:12

@Countmeout ooh thankyou for a doubly helpful reply!

my mind is now made up on lyocell, interesting that even as a linen blend it doesn’t have longevity. Not cool when things are £££. It sounds like a good thing but it clearly isn’t. I hope DP’s linen/lyocell shirt lives a longish time as it’s a gorgeous colour. The only thing shiny that I’d wear is silk or silk blend (lol 💅) so it’d be more for him. I don’t like shiny generally however still think about how gorgeous Gillian Anderson looked in The Fall in her silk shirts. But I’m just not that kinda lady.

I know what you mean about buying the coat to try on/it being so spenny. It’s made me consider try before you buy, but from memory someone had a poor experience of it on here? And it seems you’re less protected as it’s a third party? And I wonder if it’s the same items passed around until bought which puts me off if I’m expected to keep a coat that’s been in many folks houses and many delivery van floors. Wish I had a toast nearby.

sorry this was so long!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 03/10/2026 14:10

Finally tried on my sale orders - keeping the half placket jumpsuit (much better trying it on now its cooler, the sleeveless sunwashed blue mini stripe top, and the black pepper linen top. I've sent back the aqua sorbet stripe top, even though I like green normally I really didn't like the colour of this.

Disappointingly my nightshirt from the new drop hasn't been dispatched yet.

ScottishMouse · 03/10/2026 14:37

Popped into the Edinburgh store when passing this morning and had a look at the new things.
@Gelsomino they didn’t have the quilted Freya but I saw the sleeveless jacket in the same fabric. As I thought, that was far too long for me, but I also didn’t like the fabric. It felt a bit thin for “quilted”, but that might be an advantage in the dress. I also didn't love the shade of navy. But I am extremely fussy about navy shades. I don’t think Toast do navy well (always a little too light and little too purple rather than grey leaning for me) and much prefer their slates and washed blacks.
I also didn’t like the persimmon scarf in the flesh. I hope those who have ordered are less colour fussy than me and love it, but for me it was more orange than on the screen with no hint of red at all and it didn’t look good next to my face (to be fair, my face is covered in hormonal acne at the moment so nothing much looks good next to it!).
The surprise was the new alpaca wrap cardigan, which I thought would be terrible on me, but is surprisingly flattering. The sleeves make it more interesting, and it is definitely on my wishlist.
Nothing else grabbed me. I like a lot of the knitwear this season but most of it is just too heavy for me. Even though I live in Scotland, I never get cold enough for big chunky knits. I wish they would do some more midweight ones.

That's very kind, but unfortunately I'm a large!

Gelsomino · 03/10/2026 20:04

@hicat Im with you on shiny Lyocell
There was a green shirt last winter I think
Trotted off to look at it and recoiled in horror
Brrrr !
Sadly I think the dresses are that shiny stuff too.
Thanks @ScottishMouse
I think I might pop in at some point to look at the dress, it would need to be perfect at that price

Im a bit disappointed that Toast did the jacket as sleeveless and long
Im on the look out for a cropped, quilted not bulky , not slopey shouldered jacket to fling on for chilly days that dont need a coat
Of course they are like hens teeth just because Ive decided I want one !😅

OftenOrange · 03/10/2026 21:59

@triggers34 Goodness, I wish I could get to a clothes Aldi, your boots are really good. Just food here, , and wine which is useful.

Sale came at a good time but despite needing hot weather linen trousers the only keeper is the mid blue sculpted cotton twill trouser. Only had a size down left so I’m breathing in.

Does anyone else own the patchwork blue denim like jacket from 4 yrs back ?
Mine was looking tired and I’ve washed it but wondered if it w ould be possible to make the very soft fabric feel more robust as it was originally.p

OftenOrange · 03/10/2026 22:01

I dislike viscose as much as lyocel or cupro , I find the drapiness unpleasant.
The only good cotton replacement I found was hemp , it has some body and crispness and feels very comfy and cool.

ThePelican · 04/10/2026 00:53

I bought the macro check Freya dress and am very pleased with it. I can't wait to start wearing it with boots (although I will need to take the hem up a bit, it's ankle length on 5' 5" me) .

ShadowViolet · 04/10/2026 09:04

I’ve been looking at the Corn Dolly Shirt ever since it was released, but one of the reviews describes it as ‘shiny’, which is very much not my vibe.

I don’t actually mind lycocell that much. It’s one of my preferred choices for the shirts I make myself as it tends to hang really well. But it does need a little bit of care when handling.

Btw, not all lycocell is shiny, so not sure why Toast so prefer that shiny stuff. To my eyes, it doesn’t seem to fit very well with the overall Toast aesthetic. But what do I know?!

IlovePond · 04/10/2026 09:56

@ShadowViolet - I suspect Toast are using it because it is Shein/Temu cheap for them to buy products made in lyocell from China.

I was genuinely shocked by the crockery dress. It wasn’t even hemmed properly and the neckline wasn’t sitting right on one side.

OP posts:
ShadowViolet · 04/10/2026 10:22

You wouldn’t expect that with the prices Toast charge@IlovePond. That’s shocking. It seems very few brands are immune to cutting corners and going downhill over time.

IlovePond · 04/10/2026 10:40

Indeed @ShadowViolet - especially with the way they constantly bang on about how wonderful they are, their commitment to the environment, the people they work with, etc.

It’s the hypocrisy that gets me 😿

ScottishMouse · 04/10/2026 11:05

Agree @IlovePond and @ShadowViolet. I have moaned a number of times here recently about Toast quality but it just is not what it was. Meanwhile, prices are going up steadily. I can understand price rises but the quality should not deteriorate at the same time. I’ve taken to ordering more than one of a piece to get one that doesn’t suffer from bad seams, uneven hems, etc. And I have been put off and just returned and given up on a number of items that I would have kept if they didn’t have such issues. I have almost come to expect some sort of flaw and check anything I order so carefully. I used to get annoyed by the bad collars (which I have mentioned here more than once), but then just gave up looking at anything with a collar. My newest pet peeve, which I have seen on three different shirts recently is uneven pattern cutting - one had one sleeve almost two inches wider than the other which I could both feel and see when on, a second had one front piece wider than the other meaning the buttons down the front were off centre, and a third had one front piece longer than the other which was obviously very noticeable where the front pieces met at the hem. And do not get me started on the inconsistent sizing of knitwear pieces.
I still love Toast, and will still keep trying, but I feel like more and more I am loving it more to look at than to actually wear. This year all I have bought and kept from Toast is two jackets, and a sweater I got from Vinted that is an old style. That is far less than a few years ago.

Bimblesalong · 04/10/2026 23:04

That’s a shocking pattern cutting issue @ScottishMouse ! They charge too much to be so lax.

I have my fingers crossed. Toast is doing a popup in the Northern Quarter of Manchester. I wonder if this means they are considering opening a branch there? There is a huge gap in coverage for those of us in the NW - Harrogate is my nearest and is too far away!

ShadowViolet · 05/10/2026 10:44

There’s really no excuse for those kind of errors @ScottishMouse. Toast need to get their act together.

I noticed that on a linen shirt I bought earlier this year, the fabric on the collar has started to bubble. My guess is that the fabric wasn’t properly adhered to the interfacing, so the two are starting to separate. I’ve only washed that shirt twice. It’s not been subjected it to any extreme treatment. There’s no excuse for this!

CakeAndJazz · 05/10/2026 15:33

I also find I have to check a garment over multiple times to make sure it’s okay. I often also get the measuring tape out to make sure the size is right.

That’s shocking @ShadowViolet, which linen shirt is it? Have you considered sending photos through to Toast CS?

MsDastardley · 05/10/2026 16:26

@Bimblesalong wish I’d seen your post before I went out earlier. I will check out the pop up tomorrow. We are definitely under represented in the North West. I still haven’t been to a Toast shop. Nearest are Harrogate and York, and it’s too far.

Bimblesalong · 05/10/2026 17:25

Interested to hear what you think @MsDastardley It’s at Unitom until 11th Oct. Too far for me to pop over but would make a good afternoon of it if they decided to put a store in the Northern Quarter (wish they’d sort one out in Chester!). Hopefully, this is them testing the water.

MsDastardley · 05/10/2026 19:15

I’ll give you an update tomorrow @Bimblesalong 😁. Chester would be a great location. Probably fits with the Toast aesthetic more than Manchester!

OftenOrange · 05/10/2026 21:03

I’ve a mind to order a jaclet from Sézane , I feel a bit scruffy in some of my toast clothes sometimes , especially necklines and collars sagging etc , I:hear you @IlovePond
I’m not sure I’d go the full Monty with Sezane though, there’s a very feminine frilly vibe which wouldn’t suit me .
I returned a big Sale parcel to Toadt store today and feel underwhelmed by Autumn offerings , it’s all so similar to what I have,
The folkloric dress looks beautiful aside from the fabric which looks not only shiny but cold .

MsDastardley · 06/10/2026 16:48

@Bimblesalong had a look at the pop up, there was hardly anything available to buy. I think the highlight is a talk about printing tomorrow.

@triggers34 I’ve ordered the Finisterre Blundstone Suede lace up boots. Other than my walking boots, don’t have any wet weather boots so these could be useful! I like my Fracap monkey boots but don’t like wearing them in pouring rain.

I’ve also bought a pair of chunk t bar shoes from Russell and Bromley. I was hoping I wouldn’t like them and could return but I love them. I need to rein it in now

Bimblesalong · 06/10/2026 17:14

Thanks @MsDastardley coverage for us in the NW is rubbish!

ScottishMouse · 06/10/2026 17:32

Has anyone got the striped Donegal tank? I saw it on Graham St on Instagram and was very taken with it, although I think I tried it earlier in the season and wasn’t sure. I wonder if it is worth another try. I have decided against the new wrap cardi as I think I wouldn’t wear a deep v in cold weather, and though I have almost enough knitwear, it’s mostly a little safe and boring and I would like to add one more interesting piece of knitwear to my wardrobe.

triggers34 · 06/10/2026 18:32

@MsDastardleyI love those ! I guess they’ll be alright if you waterproof them? I’ve got waxed Blundstone clogs I picked up from a toast sale last year . I might wait for the sales to add any new ones . I’m still really pleased with the Aldi ones but part of me thinks you get what you pay for , we’ll see .
