I bought a rust coloured cardigan from Poetry last week Faustina. It's a reasonably neat fit and not too long.

Between that and the Orla jumper I bought a few weeks ago, my knitwear collection is complete for this Autumn/ Winter (and probably spring as well).

faustina · 28/09/2026 16:32

I'll take a look thanks @ShadowViolet . I am very tempted by the Orla jumpers but I have so many others, especially in navy - it's like they're breeding in my wardrobe!

I am very taken by this ridiculously expensive one from Plumo

That’s lovely @faustina

ShadowViolet · 28/09/2026 17:35

That does seem a lot for a jumper @faustina, but as it’s cashmere may be not completely crazy?

I find jumpers & cardigans a bit of a challenge too. I’m not exactly small, but it doesn’t take much for a jumper to look as if it’s drowning me.

faustina · 28/09/2026 18:27

@ShadowViolet - it's really chunky cashmere, hence the price (but Plumo always do a big mark up as well)
There is a really fine line between pleasantly oversized and too big, and I'm a very bad judge of it!

OrangeyLemon · 28/09/2026 19:11

Unusually for me I stuck to things on my wishlist in the sale. Usually when they’re reduced I think ‘actually I’m not bothered’ and find something totally different to buy. I bought the light seersucker shirt in navy which looked lovely from the side but made me look very wide. I thought that was going to be it but I woke up too early one morning and in a bleary eyed state bought two sizes of the clogs with the straps on the back. I got the ‘why don’t you use our size thingy to work out which size you need’ message but as the sale only lasts 3 days I wouldn’t have had time to send them back and reorder if they were wrong, and I’m not reliably the same size. Then later I went back and ordered the fisherman/pirate trousers. I didn’t go for them initially cos they’re dry clean only, but they’re also 100% cotton. Do I really need to dry clean?

OrangeyLemon · 28/09/2026 19:35

Also @triggers34 I’ve learned never to ask my DP’s opinion on clothes anymore. I’ve usually regretted it and felt like my fun’s been spoiled!

triggers34 · 28/09/2026 20:03

@OrangeyLemonabsolutely true .
so my sale items arrived today - soy linen trousers - they’re awfully big - I don’t recall them being that baggy . Same size medium . I’ll see what I can style them with tomorrow . I’m probably keeping the linen check skirt and matching tank . Dh likes the skirt 😂

IlovePond · 28/09/2026 23:41

My sale orders arrived today and all going back:

Pjs & tunic ok, but not as nice as the ones I already have.
Paisley shirt - shapeless - I don’t know what I was thinking.
Crinkle dress - lovely material and fitted well, but with it being collarless, black and tied in the middle I looked like the matron of a particularly cruel Victorian orphanage!
Crockery dress -surprisingly flattering but I disliked the shiny nylon material. (It reminded me of a shirt I had as a teenager.) The crossover neckline also gaped at one side, (even though the dress fitted fine elsewhere). I would have had to try sewing the front partly shut and I am useless at sewing.
Table setting dress - huge on me but a nice print.

I really liked the green fruit dress, but unfortunately I had ordered the next size up and it was far too big. I might try contacting Toast to see if they have it in my usual size, but I suspect that it might be too tight across the chest.

I’m a bit disappointed that none of it worked out.

May I ask a question at a slight tangent?

Do any of you wear wrinkled ankle socks with your Toast trousers, skirts and dresses? This look is very popular on their website, usually coupled with sensible-looking lace-up shoes.

I've tried it and I just can't carry it off. All I hear in my head is a strict teacher voice saying "pull your socks up".

Anyway, I just thought I'd ask! You're all so knowledgeable about the Toast "look"!

Nope!
Am far too old and would look like Nora Batty
I did see a beautiful young woman wearing a check toast dress, wrinkly socks and loafers and she looked gorgeous
I adore socks and have a huge collection, many handknitted but its either bare legs or tights with dresses ( Falke) here

Bimblesalong · 29/09/2026 09:58

@BigFrau I have been doing this as it’s cooled down. I bought a lovely pair of brown boots from Lanx. I have hand knitted some Fairisle socks, so very Toast! I will probably need tights under them as it gets cooler. I’ve worn them with cotton dresses and skirts and will soon switch to my winter corduroy skirt.

hicat · 29/09/2026 09:59

I bought the gingham linen skirt in the sale. I really am liking it! Do I ever choose to wear long skirts? Eh no. But maybe this is the one? I should sell my patch pocket rye skirt to make space for it. Something about my body makes the material get caught between my legs hah. I’m just not an elegant lady I guess, must be the short neck. But yes, the colours are lovely and pockets and elastic waist are my friends right now.

Doritochaser · 29/09/2026 11:11

Urgh just had a cancellation notice for a dress I bought, reason being it was out of stock 🙄
despite the fact I ordered it as soon as the sale started. AND It was available in that size for the next 3 days. Very poor toast.

do we usually see items from sales past come into the next sale, which I guess will be Christmas?

Sort of the same happened to me... ordered a lot of items as soon as the sale started, and yesterday I then had a message saying that 4 of the items could not be delivered. Shame on Toast!
One of these items was the fish dress - it looked so nice. Have any of you had it? Is it as nice as in the photos?
Today I'm wearing the Stripe Linen Cotton Barrel Leg Trousers | Shadow Blue/Black that I got in my parcel yesterday (apparently first part of my delivery). Looks and feel really nice. I have paired it with a 3/4 sleeve black cotton-linen tee from a couple years back.

Baaah that’s really annoying- 4 items!! Makes me wonder if they had a problem with their stock systems or something. Was looking forward to that dress 😭

I saw that fish dress in the shop in marylebone and it was stunning- if it had sleeves I’d have bought it full price. Keep an eye on resale sites and the toast facebook buy and sell group maybe?

Yes, I do it all the time, I can’t stand my bare feet in shoes, hate tights (only ever wear footless) , and have got to the age when I don’t care what anyone thinks.

mizu · 29/09/2026 15:19

My only order - the shower curtain with rave reviews - hasn’t even been dispatched yet.

Trinitybean · 29/09/2026 18:00

Hey it wasn't the block print warp sleeveless dress was it? I messaged them today as it hadn't been dispatched yet from the beginning of the sale, it was miraculously sent a minute later. I also had my Carys trousers cancelled, really wanted them.

IlovePond · 29/09/2026 18:10

Long time, no see @Trinitybean - welcome back!

I’ve been wearing socks and trainers with dresses, but they aren’t wrinkled particularly. I like the socks with a ruffly edge

No it was the ikat sobremesa dress, hopefully it’ll be in the next sale. Same for your trousers that were cancelled!

Trinitybean · 29/09/2026 19:32

oh yes I love that dress, good luck. :-)

hicat · 29/09/2026 20:01

@Doritochaser did you know you can email them to ask to buy something that was in the sale? I’ve done it a few times, even months after a sale. Wait enough time for folks to do their returns and give them an email. You might need to check in a few times. The other trick is to set up a back in stock notification while the sale is still (if you can) on so when it comes back in stock even out of sale you can sometimes get the notification and buy. Or get an early sale alarm! :)

Oh thank you!! These are great tips, will try that!
