Could anyone tell me if the Red Finisterre coat is Rust or Berry?
Asking for a friend Wink

ScottishMouse · 11/09/2026 09:08

@Gelsomino I didn’t look at it closely, but might be in store again over the weekend so could check then. I want to say more likely berry as I might have looked twice at it if it was rust, but I could be totally wrong on that. I have found their CS to be very helpful in the past, so you could maybe get in touch and ask them.

Ooooh I want it to be Berry not Rust
Thanks I will pop into town this weekend for a closer look

There’s a blue Donegal bandana on Vinted just now @MsDastardley. Just saying!

Thanks 😁. I had a look earlier but couldn’t find it. I do find Vinted difficult though so maybe didn’t search properly. Hopefully sale will be on soon so I will add one to order then

ScottishMouse · 11/09/2026 14:46

Ah @MsDastardley maybe it sold, I can’t see it now either.
I ended up ordering the bigger size in the Finisterre raincoat and quilted jacket as I thought it would be easier to try and compare both sizes at home. They should arrive today hopefully.
What did you decide to do about the jacket? And can I ask if you went for your usual Finisterre size or sizes down?

MsDastardley · 11/09/2026 14:58

@ScottishMouse I’m going to keep. I sized down. I have the Firecrest in 14, but got this in 12

ScottishMouse · 11/09/2026 15:03

Thanks @MsDastardley I have a slightly too neat firecrest in 12, and bought this in 10, but maybe I actually do need the 12. The 10 fits but somehow looks a bit meh, it might need to be a bit oversized to look more interesting.

MsDastardley · 11/09/2026 15:10

@ScottishMouse you sound similar to me! I think the sizing on 12 was right, is oversized without being massive. I sized up for the Firecrest so I couwear a jumper underneath

ScottishMouse · 11/09/2026 16:16

They have arrived and I have tried both sizes in each and cannot make a decision @MsDastardley.
This is always my Achilles heel - deciding between two sizes of the same item. Should I get the bigger one because it is more comfy/I am more likely to put on weight than lose it if the last few years are anything to go by/it hides what I don’t like about my body better? Or should I buy the smaller size in case I lose weight (🤣)/because it actually looks more flattering? Is the bigger size oversized in a cool way and the smaller one neater in a frumpy way or is the smaller one the right fit and the bigger one looks like I have borrowed my dad’s clothes?
Does anyone else have this trouble with sizing choice and how do you decide???

Post pics!

ScottishMouse · 11/09/2026 16:48

Here you go @Gelsomino I’ve marked the sizes. Arms out slightly on the smaller quilted jacket to show the body better, which I think looks a little neat (not too small, just a bit neat and therefore less interesting). I know which way I am leaning now, but delighted to get opinions 😆

Hmmm, not sure what has happened to the photos. Does it usually take this long for them to show up?

AmethystMoonShine · 11/09/2026 18:03

I like the 12s @ScottishMouse I think they hang nicely and look more stylish.

MsDastardley · 11/09/2026 18:49

@ScottishMouse I think the 10 in parka and 12 in jacket look best. Would you wear the jacket underneath the coat as a liner, if so what’s the fit like.

I totally empathise with you. I dither all the time about sizing. I went down 2 sizes with the twill trousers and still can’t make my mind up. Too late now though

Gelsomino · 11/09/2026 19:09

Please dont hate me🤗
I think you are an 11 which is why you are struggling
I have same bloody issue in trousers so they are too tight or too big

Having said that I think a 12 in both as the 10s look too tight and wont give you jumper room/ arm freedom

ScottishMouse · 11/09/2026 19:24

Ha ha, maybe I am an 11 @Gelsomino. Though I think more likely a 13 as I am usually between 12 and 14.
Thanks for the opinions everyone, I really appreciate them. I am leaning towards the 12 in both, though you might be right about the raincoat @MsDastardley I would like to be able to wear the jacket underneath but it does fit even in the 10. I’ll try again with some thicker knitwear and the jacket and see.
Now I just need to sell some other things to pay for these 🙄

Its an absolute pain being between sizes
Gap used to do size 11 jeans back in the day

If I may, the coat in the 10 looks very fitted and pulls a bit under the arm pit and on the shoulder plus that type of coat is a throw over and will need flex once in action!

Its really lovely
If I go and try the red I will report back

ScallopShellWalk · 11/09/2026 19:45

@ScottishMouse very nice. I def think the 12 in the jacket looks the best. I’m not sure about the raincoat size so it would come down to how it feels on I think.

ScottishMouse · 11/09/2026 19:51

This is such great feedback, thanks ladies. If I asked my dh he would say they all look too big, but he does not understand clothes!
They both feel better in 12. There is plenty of space in the 10, but I know what you mean about it looking like it pulls in the 10 @Gelsomino It definitely didn’t feel like that, but really I was afraid the 12 looked too big (I tend to err on the side of too big and sometimes go too far in that direction).

faustina · 11/09/2026 20:10

@ScottishMouse - I think the slightly oversized ones look better - but I always prefer oversized myself

mizu · 12/09/2026 16:42

@ScottishMouse was in Bristol today for an exhibition at the art gallery and walked past Finisterre, the coat is a beauty and there was a beautiful, thick maroon jumper right next to it. They looked so good together.

What size have you gone for?

ScottishMouse · 12/09/2026 17:33

@mizu was that the fisherman rib sweater? I really like that, the colour is so good.
I ended up going for the 10s contrary to all advice here! My daughter came home last night and said she thought the 12s looked too big. She’s usually right. I made a video for myself, and I think seeing them from all angles made a difference. The 12s also just felt a little big, like they would be moving about on me if that makes sense. I love the oversized look generally, but I am short and no longer petite and so I fear it sometimes doesn’t look that good on me. I posted the 12s back but have wondered a few times this afternoon if I made the right choice.
Sometimes I can see the appeal of brands that do one size only!

triggers34 · 12/09/2026 18:22

@ScottishMouse I’m late to the discussion but thought the 10s looked better on you 🙂

what are we hoping will appear in the summer sale ? I’m hoping for the cotton linen boxpleat in slate , I don’t think it’s been out that long so unlikely to appear though .

ScallopShellWalk · Yesterday 07:13

@triggers34 In the sale I had hoped for the black linen trousers but I decided to order them now. I had been wishing these would appear in the last 2 sales and I’d like to take them on my trip next week. I’m off walking for 2-3 weeks and I’d like to take them as my only non walking clothes. I could easily wear black every night and in city’s. They should arrive tomorrow, then I’ll need to take them up.
Apart from these I’m not really looking for anything, maybe a warm mid length jacket but I don’t want to pass the return date before I get home, so I probably wouldn’t order even if there was anything.
I hope you see the box skirt.

ScottishMouse · Yesterday 07:16

I look forward to the sale but need to be very restrained both for financial reasons and also because my past experience is that I do not do well buying out of season.
I’d love to see some knits from last winter, but that’s unlikely I’d say. Plus always on the look out for the ever elusive sale homeware and nightwear.
