As promised, here is the new thread.

@mizu taking out as we put in to the wardrobe is definitely useful to stop over buying. I know people who do this with books, it could be used with anything that we end up often buying.

@ScottishMouse I liked that notion of taking well used items on a trip rather than newest. I’m going to remember that. This isn’t the same but I like to go walking holidays. The less I put in my bag the less I have to carry every day as my bag comes with me the whole time. I have learned to wash clothes every night, so I can wear it the next day. Also when on holiday with my family we take only a few days clothes and I handwash them regularly. Often we may buy some items to wear whilst there, so need to take even less. This most recent trip I took to London, I took much more as they were new and lovely but some things came back unworn. I will learn from this. There are only so many days in a holiday and the clothes I’m most comfortable in get worn most. It’s almost like I have to force myself to wear something different and what’s the point of that? This can pretty much transfer to normal daily life as you said.

I have also got better at distinguishing between things that I love and things I will actually my wear in my life. The second category is really quite small, and if there are pieces in my wardrobe that work well for me, I really don’t need that many. My life doesn’t usually include occasions that require me to dress up, I tend to wear the same things to work and in my free time, and might put on some jewellery or a slightly nicer top to go out for dinner/drinks, but I am a casual girl at heart and pretending otherwise just leaves me with beautiful but unworn items that make me feel guilty.
A few months ago, I did an unplanned experiment which taught me something. I was away for a conference for 6 days in a UK city, and for complicated logistical reasons, I could only bring a very small bag. So I packed exceptionally light for me - 2 bottoms, 2 sweaters, 2 jersey tops, 1 pair of shoes, 1 bag, 1 jacket, 1 scarf and the jewellery I wear every day. Most of this I was wearing when I travelled. I picked my most favourite and crucially, most worn, items (often when I go away I pack my favourite newest items but end up wishing I had brought the old reliables). I wore the same outfits with little variation, and nothing terrible happened. In fact, because the choice was taken out of my hands, it felt almost freeing. This taught me that I really don’t need much in my wardrobe, I just need pieces that make me feel good. Later this month I’m going to try this again when I go to Denmark for 3 days with just a small under-seat backpack.

Greetings from Denmark - I'm camping and have minimal clothes with me to ensure enough room for the two fold up electric bikes, the tent and the bedding. I have one sweater, a denim jacket, a rain jacket, 2 jeans, a linen trousers, 5 knickers, 3 jim jam vests, 3 jim jam shorts and 5 ts. I think I'll just manage for 3 weeks🫢😂

ScallopShellWalk · 08/09/2026 15:33

I’m off on a trip next week and I’ll miss the sale, phew! 😂. I may look just for the black linen trousers but I don’t think they’ll be in the sale.

IlovePond · 09/09/2026 10:57

Morning, everyone. I am on a beauty thread where some of the lovely posters have experienced problems with scam buyers claiming products sold on Vinted/eBay are fake/old/used.

I don’t know anything about FB, but I know that the Toast sellers’ page on FB was set up to provide a safe space for purchasing stuff from like-minded Toasties.

Does anyone on the thread know how it was set up/know how to set up something similar?

If anyone does, please could you post on this thread:

Oh is there a sale due? - I'm so out of the loop with life & work being rather busy. I've only just started having a moment read our lovely thread again in the last week or so. Now I think of it, there's usually a kind of mini end of summer sale I think - is that what we're expecting? I know the 'Christmas sale' as I think of it is not until December and that's usually a 'big' sale.

IlovePond · 09/09/2026 11:32

@AmethystMoonShine - I think people are hoping for a sale some time towards the end of September for the ‘fading summer sale’.

I can’t remember exactly when it started last year.

OP posts:
Saurus72 · 09/09/2026 11:39

I didn’t buy anything in last year’s end of summer sale so not sure on those dates, but in 2024 I bought a Bryn dress (turned out to be a mistake tbh) on 26 Sep. I remember as I was on the train home from work with v intermittent wifi, and it was while the sale was still ‘hidden’. And then I’ve rarely worn it 🤷‍♀️

IlovePond · 09/09/2026 11:41

That sounds right @Saurus72

Further to my earlier query about the FB selling group.

Can anyone on here shed any light on how it works? How do people join/get vetted, for example?

Thanks

AmethystMoonShine · 09/09/2026 11:57

Thanks @IlovePond and @Saurus72 - ah yes, the fading summer sale - that's what I was thinking of. No doubt it'll start when I am away on a training course next week and can't sit there browsing - maybe best for my bank account.

It's been interesting to read the chat about being more restrained and considered with purchases. I'm with you on this. I think the thing I find hard is that when I think about my favourite pieces and the things I wear lots - I often think that I wouldn't have realised that when I bought them! Not helpful 🙄

Equally, when I buy things that I think will be amazing, they often sit unworn. I've definitely got some things to sell when I switch over my clothing in a week or two to my winter wardrobe.

I think my biggest annoyance is the tummy I've sprouted in the last few years since peri menopause hit. It just ruins the clothes I love - tucking things in looks awful but things look drab when left untucked - arghhh! The annoying thing is I have tummy muscles underneath that are quite firm...just an annoying pocket of fat that sits on top grrrrr. Anyway...first world problem.

faustina · 09/09/2026 13:06

@IlovePond I think it's fairly easy to start a FB group though I've only done it once (not for the toast clothes). It would be quite hard to explain as you're not on FB but from memory you just do it from your profile. you can make it public, so anyone can join, or private where you have to be invited or ask to join. The Toast group has rules which people have to agree to before they can join - mainly to keep out resellers and dealers. If it's a public group anyone can see its contents. If it's private then the contents can only be seen by members. hope that helps a little Pond. Tell the person thinking of it to do a search in FB support for starting a group maybe?

ScallopShellWalk · 09/09/2026 13:35

@AmethystMoonShine I agree that sometimes I too buy clothes I think are amazing and sit unworn and clothes I take a chance on that turn out favourites. Today I returned a reworn scarf that I actually liked but there was something I also didn’t like. I kept planning to return it over and over but never did. One thought that helped me return it was to ask myself if I was in the shop now would I buy it and I know I wouldn’t. It’s nice but I don’t need to bring it home. Someone else might love it. So it’s winging back.

IlovePond · 09/09/2026 15:16

Sorry for non-Toast chat, please feel free to ignore…
If anyone is a Finisterre fan, their new Amy Powney range is out and is a delight! I bought three items in store today and had to restrain myself from buying more. I got the raincoat (was seriously in need of a raincoat so this was allowed), the quilted jacket (this fills another wardrobe gap so also allowed) and the fisherman rib cardigan. I don’t strictly have a gap for the cardi, but it is beautiful, quite Toast esque in shape and style with voluminous balloon sleeves, and will be worn a lot. Plus I had a 20% discount code! I absolutely love the butter yellow fisherman rib sweater, but the colour would be dreadful on me.

MsDastardley · 10/09/2026 07:33

@ScottishMouse the Amy Powney range is lovely. I ordered the quilted jacket, it should be with me tomorrow. I’ve sized down so hopefully it will fit. I do like the raincoat, but don’t need one. Keep going back to look though! I ordered it last year but returned as massive. I ended up with a Didrikson bargain, but I don’t think it’s very stylish. I live in Manchester so a good raincoat is essential 🤣

Did you see the trousers? Tempted by those too.

ScottishMouse · 10/09/2026 07:38

I didn’t even look at the trousers @MsDastardley as I have never got on with Finisterre trousers sadly. I feel like they are made for someone a different shape to me. I sized down in both the quilted jacket and the raincoat (though not the cardigan), but I’m wondering if I should have stuck to my normal size. I might go back and try it again. I’m not sure they are quite as oversized as last year.

ShadowViolet · 10/09/2026 14:36

Those trousers were the first thing that caught my eye too @MsDastardley. Not sure about the fabric, mainly because I've not had lycocell trousers before. Should be nice and drapey.

I'm tempted, depending on how good their returns service is. Does anyone know?

MsDastardley · 10/09/2026 15:24

@ScottishMouse my jacket has arrived. I’m not sure the collarless style suits me. I think I look top heavy in it. Will try with something else later before I decide. What colour did you get? I got black, but I think it’s almost navy, so not as dark as I would like. I think it would look better with a triangle scarf, maybe I will have to order one!

@ShadowViolet I’ve only returned once, but no problem with that 😁

ScallopShellWalk · 10/09/2026 15:53

I buckled and ordered the black linen wide legged trousers that I wanted in the spring. I kept thinking they’d go in the sale but they never did. I’d like them for my upcoming trip so now I’ll have them. I’ll need to take them up.

ScottishMouse · 10/09/2026 16:17

@MsDastardley I also went for the black. I quite like the fact that it is navy/black. I know what you mean about the lack of collar, but I always wear a scarf and I think that solves any issue. I

ScottishMouse · 10/09/2026 16:35

Oh I wasn’t finished typing there @MsDastardley I was just going to say that I am definitely keeping mine, although I will try on the bigger size again to make sure on sizing.

MsDastardley · 10/09/2026 16:44

@ScottishMouse I’m going to get my scarves out later to see what works. I do like the Donegal bandanas though.

ScottishMouse · 10/09/2026 21:57

There’s a blue Donegal bandana on Vinted just now @MsDastardley. Just saying!
