Hi,
As promised, here is the new thread.

All are welcome to chat about Toastie topics, (and other related things!)

@IlovePond it may turn up another time but the one you got may plenty make up for leaving the Freya.
One of the first dresses I tried, last September in the Edinburgh shop, was a navy, perhaps indigo, Freya dress, is this the same one you tried? I thought it looked wonderful but I ended up buying the cashmere cotton Freya dress instead. I don’t regret the choice, I have worn this comfy dress often but I still think about the navy one. It sort of felt more party dress though. I saw it turn up in sales but never seriously considered it.
I’m realising skirts would be more useful. I bought a really nice navy skirt from reworn and that satisfies the navy full skirt (and Freya indigo dress) desire.

IlovePond · 27/08/2026 11:26

I think it might be the same one @ScallopShellWalk - I am really regretting leaving it atm!

@IlovePond but of course that thought process is for me to consider as I am trying not to buy all the nice things I might like. It’s hard though. You may feel differently and the Freya indigo dress it a very nice one and when I put it on I felt a warm nostalgic feeling. That in itself might be worth buying it for. Oh dear, my own self talk of how I don’t need the dress is failing. I need to go sit in a corner.

ScallopShellWalk · 27/08/2026 11:31

@IlovePond Maybe you could think over calling them up and ordering it.

CakeAndJazz · 27/08/2026 12:49

Thanks @ScallopShellWalk I’ll look out for them and give them a try if I manage to scoop them up in time.

@ShadowViolet this Sideline sweater might suit - it’s a lovely blush pink and looks really soft too.

I have an unexpected day off today, and so went to Toast this morning to look at the new things. I loved the look of the rounded ribbed navy cardigan online, but in real life it was terrible. The body was great but I have no idea what they were thinking with the sleeves. It’s rather like the grey mohair cardi from last winter but instead of batwing sleeves that taper to the cuff, these seem to taper at about the elbow only to flare out again to a wide wrist. It looked really bizarre on.
The graphite Donegal cardi is lovely, as expected but seemed much bigger in M than the one I bought last year. One for later in the season but will need to check sizing carefully.
The cropped jacket is lovely but did not suit my wide shoulders, it made me look like an American football player.
I was hoping to try the shirt and trousers in the wool cotton check fabric, but they had neither. I will order these online to try probably.

ScottishMouse · 27/08/2026 13:45

I then came home and did a bit of a wardrobe audit ready for autumn. I keep a list of clothes purchases and have all my Toast purchases since Jan 2023 (I’ve been shopping at Toast much much longer but only started the list then). The only things on to at list that I have not later sold on are pjs, homeware, and accessories (scarves & gloves). All other clothing items I have bought from Toast from Jan ‘23 up to last autumn have been rehomed at some point along the way. Now I need to work out why. Some I no longer fitted into, but some were obviously bad choices from the start so I need to pay attention to that.
Interestingly, I no longer have any skirts or trousers from Toast in my wardrobe (I currently only have two skirts and two pairs of trousers though). I saw a post on Instagram recently talking about how to figure out what you love in an item of clothing, and it started by getting you to choose your 5 favourite & most worn items, and the Toast ones in my selection were all very old pieces (some picked up pre-loved). It makes me wonder if Toast is no longer working for me, and why that is - is it my change in body shape, or are they no longer designing items as good as they used to. 🤔

ScallopShellWalk · 27/08/2026 15:33

@ScottishMouse that’s really interesting me. It is great to think through items in the house and wardrobe. I think so especially for clothes as it is creative expression and also wellbeing, for me it is.
I have replaced all my clothes pretty much in the last year mainly because my style and body has changed but also my lifestyle is altering. I’m finding out now what feels good and pleases me. I’ve made quite a few mistakes but toast is still working for me.

ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs · 27/08/2026 16:00

@Saurus72 thank you, I loved the merkin skirt, so you have saved me a wad of cash 🤣

ScallopShellWalk · 27/08/2026 16:13

@triggers34 The petticoats arrived today. I’m pleased with them and look forward to wearing them, I know I will be so much cosier now. Thank you for letting me know about them.

ScallopShellWalk · 27/08/2026 16:14

@Saurus72 @ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs I can not unsee this now. 🙈

Edited

Sorry…🥲

ShadowViolet · 27/08/2026 17:57

Oh that looks lovely @CakeAndJazz. I've been wondering all day if that colour would actually suit me. The Orla jumper is shown on a really warm toned model, which is miles away from my own complexion. The Sideline's model gives me a little bit more hope that that colour could work on paler souls.

I've added it to my wish list for now, so that I can ponder it some more!

Saurus72 · 27/08/2026 16:50

Sorry…🥲

No apology needed, its funny.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 27/08/2026 20:28

I received the indigo loopback sweater today and I’m really pleased with it, a good casual top that will be really useful.
I had also ordered the washed black denim skirt, despite it having a fixed waist which is often a problem for me. Unfortunately it’s just a bit too neat, it’s also shorter than a lot of toast skirts but I don’t think I mind that for a change. I might order in the next size up, although that won’t solve the problem of the fixed waist, but I do really like the skirt.

ScallopShellWalk · 28/08/2026 07:50

I ordered 2 more shirts from reworn. 🙈 A stripe taro that I recently saw and regretted not buying. Also a linen shirt in thistle lilac colour but in a size down so it may not fit the way I’d like. I have liked the look of this shirt and as autumn is arriving I’m tempted by the colour but it might not be for me. However, at reworn prices, I thought I’d give it a go. It’s still online so I could read all the reviews that it comes up large enough.

ShadowViolet · 28/08/2026 08:11

Is it this one @ScallopShellWalk ? I have that one and can confirm it has plenty of space. I was also unsure if the colour would work for me as I generally look dreadful in anything pastel-y, but it's a lovely muted purple which turned out to be pretty easy to wear. Fingers crossed it works for you!

Countmeout · 28/08/2026 09:32

I am slightly disappointed by the jumper offering in the new drop but have bought the neat sweater(sizing up) in the midnight colour as it appears to go with last years barrel cords and fits nicely in my wardrobe.
I love that checked boiled wool coat but I definitely don’t need a coat.

Nothing is really jumping out at me as a must have so far. I will probably get the new colour in the barrel legs eventually- wore last years so much. Very disappointed they don’t have the Vibae Chelsea boots.

Runaway bicycle looks really interesting @ScottishMouse , the mark up compared to the Indian website is horrendous though.

Its interesting to look at the most worn garments @ScottishMouse .

for me the summer most worn Toast this summer is
blue cross check dress a bit like a Freya but not , very light cotton, has sleeves. 3/4 years old
cleo t shirts
Alder dress - also past season
the tablecloth dress on cooler days
I do like a dress in summer.
ogee culottes - also old

obviously I have not worn the Cleo t shirts by themselves, generally M ans S shorts, Zara trousers, h and m culottes.

How about anyone else?

Has anyone seen the Ginger colour in person and can say is it an orange shade? One of my favourite colours.

I think that shirt is a lovely colour @ScallopShellWalk .

ScallopShellWalk · 28/08/2026 09:33

@ShadowViolet yes it’s that same one. Thank you, that all sounds positive. I hope it does fit and the colour works. It’ll work with the clothes I have, just wondering if it’ll work on me. Also short sleeves is maybe a bit ambitious at this time of year. It’ll hopefully be nice under some knits if it gets too cold, I can still wear it now for a bit, it’s still warm enough. Fingers crossed.

@Countmeout yes, I think your right, the colour is lovely. It’s def growing on me as an option for me rather than admiring from afar. I have noticed other lavender colours recently.

ScottishMouse · 28/08/2026 09:45

Totally @Countmeout I actually don’t have any Runaway Bicycle pieces, but have tried some and admired them.

I had that blue check dress but sold it last year as it became a little too small. It was a great summer dress and I am often looking out for it in a bigger size on resale sites.

I absolutely HATE summer dressing and HATE the warmer than usual weather we have had this year, and I have struggled through with only a few items - the navy seersucker shirt which functionally was great but I still don’t think is that flattering on me, an old Aiayu sleeveless top which is a bit small now but such a good shape and colour, an old too small pair of navy shorts from Finisterre and a pair of lightweight navy culottes by Maison de Soil. That is pretty much all I wore all summer and I am truly sick of these pieces. I try every year to find summer clothes I feel comfortable in, and every year I fail. I am so looking forward to autumn, but even though it is dreich here today it is still so humid.

ScallopShellWalk · 28/08/2026 10:31

@CakeAndJazz the ecru twisted seam trousers have been delivered now to toast. You might see them soon.

ScallopShellWalk · 28/08/2026 10:36

@ScottishMouse I'm out walking the dog up a wee hill over here in the trossachs and I’m boiling hot. Like you say, cloudy but I’m struggling in a T-shirt and light walking trousers. Should have worn shorts but haven’t really worn shorts to walk the dog all summer. Is it even hotter now?

ScallopShellWalk · 28/08/2026 11:06

Thinking now that I’ve ordered the stripe taro shirt that I may send the white taro back. I can never really make up my mind whether I want to keep it and that’s a sign it’s not right. I’ll send it today. I have 2 other white shirts as it is.

CakeAndJazz · 28/08/2026 11:07

Thanks @ScallopShellWalk I’ll keep an eye out now and let you know if I managed to grab them. If you do spot them on the website please let me know as I’m not always fast enough.

ShadowViolet · 28/08/2026 12:22

I too have a minuscule summer wardrobe @ScottishMouse and most of it I made myself.

The only Toast Summer item I've really worn is that linen shirt I linked upthread. I have yet to wear the Open Stitch Knitted Polo. To me, it looks more like an autumnal layering piece. The Baya stripe cotton shirt, again especially useful for layering. I imagine it's too thick to wear on a hot day.
