Do jumpsuits suit anyone?

This has been playing on my mind since my husband said that jumpsuits don't suit anyone. A friend of mine told me the opposite that jumpsuits suit everyone so thought I would have it a go and I now have two. I don't wear them often and he didn't comment when I did wear them on holiday but I have been reluctant to wear them even more since he said this even though it wasn't really directed at me personally. What do you all think?

They suit me. I'm not 5' 10" or a teen. I wear baggy ones, dungarees and boilersuits.

Very rarely do they suit grown women, fine as a utilitarian outfit eg mechanics, otherwise really over a sized 8 they look iffy at best, dresses tend to be far more flattering for size. That said wear what you want, it’s not for anyone else to say but you did ask!

They do suit me - I am quite tall, broad shoulders, short body and long legs. However dresses really don't tend to look good on me. I can't quite work out why and experiment regularly with different shapes and styles but I cannot pull off a dress the way I can a jumpsuit. Other people I know are the opposite.

Same - short body, long legs, jumpsuits are good on me but I always feel enormous in dresses, like a ship in full sail. I persevere with them though because I like the idea. I can just about get away with a shirt dress if it’s exactly the right length.

No, not me, I look like I should be working the press in Prisoner Cell Block H 😂

That made me laugh! Thanks! I was rather fond of Bea....

(Wish there was a laughing emoji- the rest don't seem appropriate!)

I love jumpsuits! But the one you have on is not great if I’m honest…

I like jumpsuits and wear them often but IMO the one in the OP does not suit her.
The colour of it is fine.
The legs are OK.
The neckline is too low and too wide.
The straps over the shoulders are too far apart.
The elasticated waist cuts the body into a bust and a belly, and emphasises the lack of a defined waist.

The overall look seems to be a jumpsuit that is too big for the wearer's frame but needed to accommodate a body that's carrying too much weight.

OP looks pretty and might be ok about her weight, but I think she'd probably look better in a less fitted style. Some of the Lucy &Yak ones would probably be better.

Fitted jumpsuits tend to look better on women who have a good figure.
Jumpsuits with an elasticated waist don't really suit anyone.

I feel they suit me. I’m 5ft 7, a size 10 with B cup boobs. I have quite a few which I love and feel very comfortable in.

Jellybean23 · 10/07/2026 12:03

Most people wouldn’t wear them if they could see themselves from the rear. Even the best shaped bum looks bad.

StylishAndBeautiful · 10/07/2026 12:07

Even the best shaped bum looks bad. I disagree, but agree with

I had a couple - DH didn't like them ( not that that matters) - my friends and I joke that my man EVER said to his partner "why don't you go buy a lovely jump suit" / because they are actually not flattering

Whynottryagain · 10/07/2026 12:42

It's definitely not true that they don't suit ANYONE.

Just like dresses, jeans and most garments, there are styles of jumpsuit that are better or worse for particular body shapes.

I can think of people who I wouldn't advise to wear a jumpsuit as other things would look better.

Personally I think I look great in my jumpsuits. Wide leg ones are better for me than narrow leg ones. I am tall, thin with long legs though. DH loves them.

Nooooo! I'm sure it looks lovely. I think jumpsuits look great on anyone who doesn't have a body that is freakishly long in proportion with their legs. Seriously I'm the same height as my 6'1 DH when we sit down and I'm only 5'6. If I was even vaguely proportional I'd buy that jumpsuit in a heartbeat.

Oh my goodness me and DH are the exact opposite of you. Our legs are exactly the same length but he’s 6’1 and I’m 5’4.
I have basically no torso.

StylishAndBeautiful · 10/07/2026 20:09

I get compliments too. No widelegs for me.

I’m like you, my husband is 5 11, I’m just under 5ft 7 and I put his jeans on once my mistake and they were like cropped trousers flapping round my lower shins. Side eyed him for ages after that 😂

Harrietsaunt · 12/07/2026 14:07

Well that photo makes it look like the jumpsuit doesn’t flatter you at all sadly.

Have you had a bra fitting recently? I am 30GG so I understand it’s difficult having larger boobs but your support looks totally inadequate.
