I’m broke, what can take the place of Botox?

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 27/06/2026 21:07

I’ve been getting my 11s, forehead, and crows feet done for about 3/4 years, usually every 7-8 months.

But now I’m broke, and my crows feet in particular are beginning to bother me, and my left eyelid feels a bit droopy and uncomfortable.

Is there anything that remotely compares? I can’t use tret, i have eczema and my skin can’t take it.

Does anyone have any ideas? Please?

Get your daughters into sports, hobbies, outdoor pursuits etc. There’s a whole bunch of young women out there who arent obsessed with their appearance. They are too busy fell walking, kayaking or looking for puffins. All my kids friends are like this. They will do their hair and makeup for a night out but that’s it. Actually they tell me the natural look is coming back into fashion.

Megifer · 28/06/2026 18:22

Ive used all sorts of serums, peels, tret, you name it, op and had a few Fibroblast sessions that were pretty good, but after having dipped my toe into botox for the first time about a month ago I hate to say theres nothing that beats it!

Thank you ☺️ They are already into a lot of these pursuits.

They were just examples. Cycling, rowing, join a band. IME girls with a passion for a hobby haven’t time or inclination to obsess over their appearance.

PPs called it either “shite” or “poison” hence my response

to your point yes ofc there is focus on looking good, not necessarily Botox though .. hence the million TikTok channels on face yoga and devices etc . Botox is a very small fraction to all these

and btw it’s not necessarily the pressure to look good, that’s not why OP or others do these stuff

But this by very definition upholds the idea that wrinkles, looking older, and being older = bad. If the opposite of this, is as you say ‘to look good’.

Why am I classified by society as ‘looking bad’ because I have wrinkles and am older? Why is that? I find it upsetting that I’m told I ‘look bad’ because I have wrinkles.

Was thinking of giving it a whirl at 70.

research to make sure you go to someone who is well qualified and genuine. I think you will be really pleased x

It’s not as straight forward as that I’m afraid

When I don’t do anything I didn’t necessarily look “bad”,everything was just accepted

but when I started transforming part of my face (some with Botox , some with face yoga)… the result was so good, it was my confidence, my insight energy that went through the roof!

so zero pressure from anyone , just pure curiosity that led to me changing how I feel today

and you can’t blame people for wanting to feel more energised, confident etc it’s what does it for them, zero need to judge

Indeed. In real life I keep quiet when I see people who have made a mess of their faces with Botox. That's why so many Botox users think they look amazing. Because people are too polite to tell them otherwise

Maybe people are also too polite to comment on other people's wrinkles ?

@lightreflectingonwater “have made a mess of their faces” is a nasty thing to say

Stop 😂 many women with hobbies also get Botox.

I’m not gonna say my hobbies because it would be outing, but you would surprised at what I do and still manage to have some thoughts about my appearance.

I call shenanigans on this one.

I have girls. Grown up ones and late teens.

One is obsessed with horses, and will do anything to be near a horse, spending days on end at stables, mucking out all that jazz.

One has danced since she was 3, born to be grinding away at her craft in the dance studio daily.

One is super introverted, loves animals, science, walks, gaming, coding etc.

Each one of them has focused on their looks, appearance, fashion sense. From hair dyes, hair removal, nails, trending clothes, eyebrows lashes etc.

They have a good skin care routine, love to try out new make up trends and enjoy sharing them with each other.

It took nothing away from who they are as individuals, their personalities, their likes and dislikes.

You seem to be suggesting that people who are focused on their appearance couldn't possibly have the heads pace for walks, hikes, nature, music etc.

If thats what your suggesting, then maybe you should look inside at your own internalised misogyny and figure out why you feel like that.

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 28/06/2026 21:22

@SnipSnipMrBurgessI find that attitude a lot on Botox threads: you only care about your appearance if your brain is otherwise empty.

It’s incredibly dim thinking, demonstrably untrue, and judgmental as all fuck.

Exactly this.
A lot of women are bullies and so self righteous.

But again - why does hiding your naturally beautiful lined skin with Botox make you feel more confident? Have you genuinely asked yourself this and been honest with yourself? Why not celebrate your age and your aging faces? To age is a privilege.

I’m 71 and I’ve never been ‘classified by society as looking bad’. Nor have any of my friends of similar ages. None of us feel pressured into doing anything we don’t want to do.

I don’t know how old you are or why you rage against society as you appear to do. Just get on with your own life and leave others to theirs.

At no point did I infer that if you have Botox you don’t care about anything else. I only questioned, WHY are so many women buying into the socially manufactured pressure that aging and wrinkles are bad, being and looking younger is good, and why are we compounding the decades long systemic belief that women hold more value in society if they are beautiful and young. Aren’t we worth more than that?

Misageyny is rife. Older women are mocked, marginalised and erased (Westwood 2023) in almost all spheres of life - through the media, in the workplace, on the street, and even in their own homes (Gordon 2020)
