Is this bag hideous?

I need a tote bag to travel with, that will fit under the seat on a plane, that I can zip closed so stuff doesn’t fall out.
Sometimes will be work trip, so needs to fit my laptop. Sometimes will be holiday carryon so all the usual holiday stuff.
I have a Nordace backpack which is great for work, so thought this might be good. But is it too functional, and in fact, hideous?

Any other suggestions for around £200? Please don’t suggest Longchamp. Have a teenage daughter.

Is this bag hideous?

I really like it! I think I have one of their cabin bags which I do really like but it’s very heavy

NChangeorama · Yesterday 14:29

I have this bag. I am not bothered whether Mumsnet thinks it is hideous or not, but I will tell you that the size is great, and if you buy the packing cubes and travel for 1-2 days it really really works. I love it from a practical perspective.

Downsides: it killed my shoulder and I can't use it any more (laptop + 2 days worth of stuff for travel = v heavy). Also, I have used it a lot and it is scuffed and dirty and wiping it does not get it clean whatever they say in the marketing blurb.

If you can bear the black one / another colour that might be better.

Hideous is a very strong word for a pretty neutral bag!

tsmainsqueeze · Yesterday 14:29

I think it's really nice.

PenandPip · Yesterday 14:31

I actually like it and might order one.

Yes my cabin bag is the same colour and it does not wipe clean.

This. I only clicked to see what it was going to be and find this normal looking bag lol

Chinese owned company and plastic straps. Not very good reviews.

For slightly more I have this fabulous MZ Wallace tote. They make them in lots of different colours. Lightweight and roomy, easy for travel.

Go away. No one wants your nasty ageist comments.

DeeNiall · Yesterday 15:42

I don't like the look of the fabric but it looks a good size. I did think 'my nan's shopping bag' when I saw the photo.

(Not ageist. My nan passed away in the early 1990s and the bag would be one she'd had since she was about 50)

Oh Emily. You trendy young thing you. Some of us ‘old women’ are quite stylish actually but do carry on with your ageist views.

Hoppinggreen · Yesterday 15:44

It does not evoke any srtong emotions either way to be honest
If you like it and it suits your purposes then get it

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · Yesterday 15:48

I had one very similar, but it got dirty very quickly so I got a darker one.

fruitfly3 · Yesterday 15:56

It’s definitely not hideous, in any way. It’s not my choice but I wouldn’t think twice if I saw someone with it.

ThreeStripeQueen · Yesterday 15:59

It looks like a bingo bag to me.
However I tend to find most of the bags people love on S&B ugly AF so on that basis it’s probably acceptable to most people.

I’m a 56 year old grandma. I apologise. I didn’t know I had no business being interested in style and beauty.

I guess boring and unfashionable is what I was meaning more than hideous! The previously mentioned teenage daughter probably thinks I’m an old woman, so maybe it’s ideal.

Do you have any non-boring and fashionable suggestions @JournalistEmily ?

Is that what you use then? I’ve never played bingo so I have no idea what a bingo bag is.

Edited

Things come round again though.

I have strong memories of my mum’s dowdy collection of shopping bags. Imagine my surprise when all the trendy young teens seem to be carrying them nowadays - https://www.longchamp.com/gb/en/bags/xsa/bags-by-collection/xsa-col/le-pliage-original/xsa-colpli001/

With regards to the bag in the OP, it’s not hideous. It is neutral and inoffensive. The fabric isn’t the nicest, but it’s going to be shoved under the airplane seat and kicked and shoved, so you don’t want soft leather or anything lovely like that. I think it is perfect for the purpose intended (and far nicer than the purely functional foldie that I got).

I really don’t get the love for Le Pliage. Anyone who would pay over a hundred quid for a bit of canvas must have more money than sense.

Fizzybluewater · Yesterday 16:34

Who cares if shallow randoms think it's stylish or not, if you like something buy it, or it suits you wear it.
A lot of the brand name stuff is pretenious and most people wouldn't know the name or care either way.
