Is this bag hideous?

https://nordace.com/en/product/siena-pro-tote-bag-plus/

I need a tote bag to travel with, that will fit under the seat on a plane, that I can zip closed so stuff doesn’t fall out.
Sometimes will be work trip, so needs to fit my laptop. Sometimes will be holiday carryon so all the usual holiday stuff.
I have a Nordace backpack which is great for work, so thought this might be good. But is it too functional, and in fact, hideous?

Any other suggestions for around £200? Please don’t suggest Longchamp. Have a teenage daughter.

Is that what you use then? I’ve never played bingo so I have no idea what a bingo bag is.

No I just take a dobber and my usual handbag but lots of people do take bags just like that one.

And your suggestion is?

The bag itself is there to serve a purpose - :to hold as much as can be stuffed into it and still capable of being shoved under a plane seat. It's a very neutral bag.

Quality brand,I have about 10 Radley bags I've bought over the years.

That says open top, which I don't like, but it seems to have a zip. Radley is likely to disappear soon.

I assumed autocorrect for bowling bag (not that I've played either)

Lifeomars · 24/06/2026 17:10

It's plain and will go with everything, when I saw the thread title I was expecting something very colourful with lots of pockets and trimmings. It's a functional inoffensive bag.

ElleintheWoods · 24/06/2026 17:50

It’s quite nice but my initial impression was that it was a nappy bag - I think it’s the shape + colour combo. Sorry 😕 If you’d like smart, I’d go for a more defined shape and leather, not fabric - it’s hard for fabric bags to look professional

If casual weekend bag for day trips etc then a good fit

Not AN OLD WOMAN. Heaven preserve us from such a fate 🙄

Is the 'not a le pliage' related to the teenage daughter OP? Anyway, I have a nice travel tote from Carrier Company, comes in a couple of sizes, sturdy canvas and strong but soft leather handles

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 24/06/2026 16:20

I really don’t get the love for Le Pliage. Anyone who would pay over a hundred quid for a bit of canvas must have more money than sense.

Neither do I. I have some and never use them. I don't like them.

notacooldad · 24/06/2026 18:04

It just looks like a practical bag.
Not eveythungvhas to be super stylish and cutting edge.
Practical has its place in life.

Guiltypleasures001 · 24/06/2026 18:05

Radley are having a half price sale as clearing all stock out there’s some lovely large bags on line

DeeNiall · 24/06/2026 18:08

The Pliage is OK, I mean, but I have other bags I prefer and use,

TinyTarna · 24/06/2026 18:29

Its a nice plain bag, looks like its a good size as well. Stop worrying about other people.

Tenniswhites · 24/06/2026 18:34

In defence of the le pliage, it’s a workhorse that’s for sure. Mine is 15yrs old and still
going strong-it has been all over the world with me.

Mine cost about £60 iirc. £115 is lot though so would need to think twice when a replacement is needed.

DeeNiall · 24/06/2026 18:43

@Tenniswhites , they're popular but I don't really see why. If you love yours, great. Maybe I should dig mine out.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 24/06/2026 18:53

No, not hideous at all.
just…meh I guess

Shudacudawuda · 24/06/2026 18:53

I like it. I also really like Radley bags, great quality for the price.
But I'm 48 so my opinion is possibly to be disregarded 🤷‍♀️

I bought one a bit like this and other family members kept nicking it so I have since bought them for Christmas’ and birthdays so much so I am running out of colours. It will protect your laptop more and your shoulders will thank you.

This is very cute! I want to be able to rummage for things during the flight though. Which is another reason I wouldn’t go for the Pliage, too much rummaging. I like all the pockets this one has.

I’ve probably titled this thread wrong. I’m not worried about other people not liking my bag. I do think it’s a bit boring though, so wondered if anyone had suggestions of nicer ones that were as practical. V grateful for all suggested so far!

It’s actually so small you can put it on your knee and open it up and see everything. The person next to you would be able to though too! Not discrete.

For slightly more I have this fabulous MZ Wallace tote. They make them in lots of different colours. Lightweight and roomy, easy for travel.

Tbh, the fact you don't love it is in its favour. As PP said, it's going to get scuffed, stuffed under seats or in overhead lockers, if you're like me you'll spill something on it, or something will leak in it. It's a working bag. My equivalent is an ancient waxed cotton Cath Kidston floral patterenedvbowling bag with Tardis like properies

Just an aside MN is obsessed about looking stylish at the airport or on flights - have you ever seen anyone at an airport and thought "wow"?
