Is this bag hideous?

I need a tote bag to travel with, that will fit under the seat on a plane, that I can zip closed so stuff doesn’t fall out.
Sometimes will be work trip, so needs to fit my laptop. Sometimes will be holiday carryon so all the usual holiday stuff.
I have a Nordace backpack which is great for work, so thought this might be good. But is it too functional, and in fact, hideous?

Any other suggestions for around £200? Please don’t suggest Longchamp. Have a teenage daughter.

I like it. I also really like Radley bags, great quality for the price.
But I'm 48 so my opinion is possibly to be disregarded 🤷‍♀️

I like Radley. Radley cross body pocket bags are so secure and handy when you're travelling. They last forever.

It's a bit of a thing on MN to sneer at Radley. I don't care. I've almost no interest in handbags beyond do they serve their purpose.

Radley is closing down btw

I bought a beautiful tomato red cross pocket bag a few weeks ago. I love how it sit against my body really clever design. It was reduced to £39 at Boundary Mill

@AppleDumplingWithCustard They fold up and that makes them great for an extra bag! They have leather straps and flap and are iconic. However the bag in question is just a bit boring. I dont like thin handles if carrying a lap top either. However I don’t travel light and my luggage has to work. I like Samsonite bags. They have comfortable handles, last forever and are well made.

Quality brand,I have about 10 Radley bags I've bought over the years.

I'd love this if it didn't have a visible logo.
Also, I now really want to go play bingo.

That says open top, which I don't like, but it seems to have a zip. Radley is likely to disappear soon.

Are they shutting shop?
I see their purses in TK Maxx a lot

It's ok but I'm not overkeen. And that colour will get grubby very quickly

I have the bag in the op in black. I think it's a lot nicer than it looks in the photos. I tend not to close the end press studs so it doesn't have the pinched look but just an ordinary shape. Lots of lovely pockets

I have that bag for work and absolutely love it. Not sure why you'd think it is hideous

For slightly more I have this fabulous MZ Wallace tote. They make them in lots of different colours. Lightweight and roomy, easy for travel.

I love these!!

Don't see how anyone could describe it as hideous. It's just a bag! Nice useful size. It might get grubby though.

There are great bargains at Radley just now as they are closing down. After they dropped the dog and have an almost gone logo, they are a bargain and have been in lots of magazine recommended lists. I’ve bought a few bags from them recently and they really have improved - unfortunately I guess costs outweigh profits and they needed to update much much sooner. Get anything from them at a huge discount and it’s worth it.

So tempted now. I know the logo is fairly small, but I despise visible logos!

I like it but I wouldn’t pay that much for it personally. I don’t understand the reference to Longchamp and teenage daughter.

AbsoluteHoot · Yesterday 10:46

It’s a very unremarkable bag. Not worthy of ‘hideous’. It’s completely inoffensive.

The logo is barely visible unlike a lot of brands.

I've seen worse. I would pay £200 for it though.

I have this bag. I am not bothered whether Mumsnet thinks it is hideous or not, but I will tell you that the size is great, and if you buy the packing cubes and travel for 1-2 days it really really works. I love it from a practical perspective.

Downsides: it killed my shoulder and I can't use it any more (laptop + 2 days worth of stuff for travel = v heavy). Also, I have used it a lot and it is scuffed and dirty and wiping it does not get it clean whatever they say in the marketing blurb.

If you can bear the black one / another colour that might be better.

I was going to say it would get mucky quickly. Agree that quick wipes don’t work.

Never believe that one

Also I always have my bag over my shoulder and those straps aren’t designed for that

Calliopespa · Yesterday 14:02

Hideous is a strong word op!

But I am not sure I see that it has enough to fall in love with given the colour and fabric, which will get grubby.

theemmadilemma · Yesterday 14:35

Everytime I've attempted to travel using a lovely big weekend tote I've immediately regretted it if I've had to carry it further than house -> car -> hotel reception.

Anything else and 2-3 days of stuff starts feeling like lead weights on my shoulder, I can't move easily around people and so on.

If you do use it, don't be the twat that bashes peoples heads on planes as you carry it down the isle on your shoulder. 😁

The Radley one linked above is lovely.
