Took dog for a walk and just had some Leopard print wide leg pants, black sandals and a black band tee.

DH took some candid photos of me and just sent them over whatsapp.

Jesus Christ :( I look awful. I look so old. So tired.

I'm 41. 5ft5. 9st.

I look ill, I look hunched. My hairs a state.

I look about 60 years old.

What the hell has happened to me :(

We are not meant to look 21 when we're 50!

All the social media filters, airbrushing etc etc means we're surrounded by perfect pictures. It has skewed our idea of what normal looks like.

Next time you go out take a look around. Most people will look like you do - normal. Most people don't look like influencers on insta, or tv presenters.

Your husband thinks you're beautiful. Listen to him!

Yeah we're all a bit more wrinkley and bedraggled than we were 10 years ago but you know what? At least we're still here 💪

Jellox · Yesterday 19:16

Have you not seen photos of celebs getting out of cars and having photos taken unexpectedly.

These are some of the most gorgeous people on the planet, most have had work done and hire chefs, PTs, make up artists and stylists etc but they still have photos that make them look like crap, even though we know that most of the time they don’t look like that.

I wouldn’t even worry about it.

And don’t listen to the batshit poster who implied your DH took the photos or sent them to you for a negative reason.

likelysuspect · Yesterday 18:53

What do you mean by candid?

Do you mean he took you unawares? I would hit the roof if that was me

Anyone can take a snap in a millisecond and we are pulling a funny face or double chin hanging down or look like we're chewing a wasp or something.

Thats not what we look like most of the time.

Why would I be mad at him?
He obviously thought it was a nice scene and would make nice photos. The photos are nice to him.
I just see myself differently in them, i almost don't recognise myself.

Its just a strange thing. No reason to be mad at him, it's not his fault.

Two months ago I caught a slightly overweight dowdy woman on the ring doorbell looking like she was trying to break into our parcel bin.

I then realised it was me.

I’ve now lost a stone and at eight stone and five four I look far better already.

CurdinHenry · Yesterday 19:21

Photos lie done worry about it.

I go around feeling pretty good most of the time then occasionally I'm made to look at a picture of me and get a shock/feel briefly bothered then remember photos lie don't worry about it

Besides which your spirit is what animates you and makes you attractive

Corpses and photos alike don't convey the relevant bits

Disturbia81 · Yesterday 19:24

Videos are best, moving around. everyone of any age can take bad photos. I got rid of all my teenage photos as they are just awful, and now I’m mid 40s I’m happy with most photos.
It’s not about age, it’s about you not liking your look. It doesn’t sound like you do much so lots to potentially do

Oh god, the doorbell cam always catches me at my worst! Or maybe, just my everyday lol.

andnowwhatdowedo · Yesterday 19:26

Some people aren't photogenic OP. I'm not. The camera lies so much I'm surprised it isn't doing time for slander.

Not every 60 year old, I’m happy to say. I don’t look ill, or hunched, and my hair’s exactly as I want it.

I’m sorry you feel bad about your photos. I’m sure you have many others that you’re happy with?

I saw a video recently of a postpartum mother, bringing her new baby in the house for the first time and the ring doorbell kindly notified her 'there is a truck in the front yard'

Edited

I'm saying I look like how I would expect myself to look in 20 years time, not now. You know, my mothers age.

Omg this happens to me every time... the ring doorbell narrows everything sideways (to fit more into the frame) so my face looks like it's melted like a Dali clock.

I've also mistaken my husband for a strange man trying to burgle in the night, when he came home late from a night out. Briefly panicked. But everyone looks weird on the infra red setting!

4 kids and an EXTREME amount of stress in the last 3 years. I am having therapy about it all.

Ok that that no doubt lies at root of everything

the job…. Can you do anything about it?

how old are the kids? Happy healthy supportive marriage? Do you ever get to go out and let hair down with friends?

wishingonastar101 · Yesterday 19:41

Oh god this just makes me feel more shite... Im 5.1" and 9 stone 3... feel like a whale.

Newyearawaits · Yesterday 19:41

YouDontKnowBoutBenom · Yesterday 18:19

Exactly. I looked good last summer! 😭

Hi OP, we all have a story of less than flattering photos.
Light, posture etc etc can all impact on how we look in photos. Also the colour combination.
I have had some very unflattering photos taken on the same holiday where I have had what I considered nice photos of myself.
This applies to EVERYONE.
Please don't beat yourself up OP.
Have a chilled evening and take care.

My friends used to joke about how I’m the opposite of most people, I look better in photos. I think that came from back in the age of 1000 photos taken on a digital camera on Facebook for every night out I managed to avoid looking horrific because I didn’t drink as
much as others. So anyway, now every time I have a bad photo I think ‘Jesus if the photo is that bad, what do I look like in person ?!!’

I also look better in photos than real life… People have commented on it quite a few times, tactfully and not so tactfully.

I used to have a passport photo, taken when I was about 21, where I looked great. But I always dreaded going through customs just in case they didn’t believe it was me!

I swear they always did a double take.

Ive never done online dating but if I did I would have to use the worst possible photo to ensure an accurate depiction of my very average face.

And yet here you are, still getting out the dog and husband and keeping going. For your husband to take pictures of you, he must have felt it was a beautiful moment that he wanted to remember. Go easy on yourself.

Itiswhysofew · Yesterday 19:48

Wait til you see your next passport photo😂

CagedBirdInACage · Yesterday 19:51

I turned 40 recently and all of a sudden I feel like I look so old. I look in the mirror and I feel like I barely recognise myself sometimes. I have been trying recently to revamp my wardrobe but nothing feels right and I end up returning everything.

I've just been trying to switch my mindset to appreciating my body for what it can do rather than how it looks. The only time I feel comfortable in my body is when I'm running, I live in fear of seeing how I actually look when I'm out for a run because I just know that I'd never want to do it again 😭

MabelMoo23 · Yesterday 19:53
