I'm really struggling with summer perfumes, ive realised all mine are very heavy amber and quite dark/musky and mysterious etc

I 'd really like something fresh for a change- any recs for something that smells just like rain?- imagine the moment just after a thunderstorm when it smells fresh, clean, renewed - possibly a bit green/grassy etc

Thank you :)

Maison Margiela When The Rain Stops
Maison Matine Avant l'Orage - this is before the storm rather than after, but might still do the job?

when the rain stops - could you describe this? before the storm still sounds lovely to me

IIRC some other posters on here weren't keen on When the Rain Stops, but I quite liked it. I don't have a sophisticated nose or way of describing things. My very brief notes say "A bit cologny at first sniff but dries down to a nicer scent. Like it for summer."

Avant l'Orage even briefer: "Nice."

Sorry. I can't easily try them again as my samples are somewhat inaccessible at the moment. Fragrantica reviews will probably be more help.

Vanilla powder extrait, lovely and quite different to og vp, can't quite describe how. Very strong.

Tabac Sahara again. Find this scent really intriguing. At first its acrid smoke hitting your nostrils. . Then quite soon that dissipate and a lovely raspberry effect comes through. Think I may be tempted to get more when the sample runs out.
It may go on my full bottle list which currently has mojave ghost absolu, radio bombay, vanilla planifolia on. I won't get a full bottle until September tho as expensive holiday season upon us.

After saying no full bottles til September I won some money yesterday on premium bonds, a sizeable amount, and after checking with Mr. Rainbows that I wasn't dreaming my first purchase was a bottle of Mojave ghost absolu, from cult beauty and the ANNIIECB code took 20% off too.

I won't go mad, most of this money will get reinvested but I have siphoned some off for treats.

Mo ghost absolu has been on my want list for a while, its possibly my very favourite perfume if I ever could even choose one.

Congrats. What a lovely surprise. The absolu is gorgeous, it's a top fave.

CorneliaStreet · 05/07/2026 08:35

Congratulations @IDontHateRainbows, definitely treat yourself!

OvaHere · 05/07/2026 08:36

SOTD yesterday was Gris Charnel. I can't believe how much I like this after thinking I didn't. Having a spray bottle makes such a difference.

I prefer spray although dabbers have their place ( mainly on my desk in the office as a dab is less intrusive than a spritz). Ive got mini funnel and little glass bottles off Amazon before to convert dabbers into sprays.

GC is a beautiful scent.

Part of me wants to run to selfridges today and buy everything! Will restrain myself though as although this is a good prize its not one of the top ones and could easily get wasted on crap in a few months.

IDontHateRainbows · 05/07/2026 09:34

Meanwhile back to SOTD and mine is Lucius, lovely citrus with the most indescribable but gorgeous dry down.

Fair play to cult beauty and NDD, after realising my win last night at 11 pm and ordering my Mojave Ghost Absolu at warp speed it is now out for delivery! They may have rubbish customer services but delivery speed is top notch.

@IDontHateRainbows congratulations on your big win 🤑 Glad you've taken some of it to treat yourself. I think one of two more treats wouldn't hurt 😜

SOTD today is Roja Isola Verde, not the biggest fan of this, but I'm just going to a summer event in the park today so I wanted something outdoorsy but also a bit tropical / holiday-y.

@OvaHere did you transfer it into a spray bottle? I got the fs gris charnel but the Ganymede is still in the dabber and I wouldn't mind a little spray bottle for it.

IDontHateRainbows · 05/07/2026 10:22

Thanks All.

I am making my dream 'treat list' but some of this may remain dream not reality as ive just bought the harrods scent seekers kit ( before I knew about the win) and FAC season is upon us.

But still here's my list if I was to go berserk with my winnings:
Maison francis kurkdjian fragrance wardrobe for her - 8 x 11ml
DS & Durga Radio Bombay and/ or Coriander (fuck it its a dream list let's get both)
Guerlain tabac Sahara
Chloe Vanilla planifolia
Penhaligon's Babylon
ABEL warm set of 3 and cool set of 3
Ex Nihilo Quintessence 5 x extrait set

Anyone else want to tell me their 'dream list?'

@JoRaRaRa I've previously given away my Gris Charnel dabbers as I didn't like the scent just on sniffing from the bottle. I got a free 10 ml spray when I bought Oud Paradiso for my birthday, so decided to give it a proper go. Now I love it.

I've got a few glass bottles from amazon with the intention of transferring the small number of dabbers I've kept from advents but I've only got round to doing one so far.

I really need to not buy the LF frag AC if they do one again as loads of those were dabbers. Problem is it was quite affordable so it only needs to have a couple of scents that appeal and common sense will probably fly out.

JoRaRaRa · 05/07/2026 10:39

@IDontHateRainbows I'd like the Ex Nihilo Quintessence 5 x extrait set too. Is that the one in the miniature bottles that are the same as the full size? I have a weakness for the mini bottles 😍 not that I know what to do with them, they just end up in a drawer. I'd like to display them but I think they'd just get smashed, my house is too small and cluttered.
I'd also like all the Parfum de marly feminine fragrances, preferably in the 30ml, although I know that they don't do the 30ml in all of them, but I think the smaller bottles are prettier, just because they're smaller 🤣
I'd like to try out some more of the Boadicea fragrances. Another one where the miniature bottles are just too cute!
There's probably more but that's all I can think of at the moment.

We're all too weak and struggle to resist a good deal 🙈🤣 I didn't pick up the LF one, I think it had a fs Jo Malone which I wasn't a fan of so I passed. But I fell for hn, snk and Harrods 🤣

How lovely to have a win @IDontHateRainbows!

I’m wearing Liberty Maze which is orange/neroli so I’ve topped it with some MG Lemon. I’m all citrusy and fresh!

IDontHateRainbows · 05/07/2026 11:13

Resisting the urge to go shopping ! I actually have to do some work today as big crisis at work last week, I will get the time back so I don't mind too much and it keeps me out of trouble (keeps my wallet safe).

Gris Charnel is my favourite autumn scent

CorneliaStreet · 05/07/2026 11:34

My lottery win perfume purchase would be a full size of Killian Angels’ Share.

Also, less expensive but as a completely unnecessary nostalgia purchase, a bottle of Dior Dune.

OvaHere · 05/07/2026 11:38

Trying a sample of the new Dior Paradise today. It's lovely, I'm really liking it so far. It reminds me a bit of Byredo Alto Astral but softer. I want to say almost peachy but I think that actually could be the almond note coming through. On first impressions I'd say this is office safe although I've not sprayed a lot as I've only got 1.5 ml.

I don't know why I'm reminded of Alto Astral because the notes really are not that similar between the two. Maybe it's because both invoke a beachy, by the sea vibe for me. I think it also a has a clean vibe to it. The creator is Francis Kurkdjian.

Notes are

citrus
sweet
almond
vanilla
fruity
woody
nutty

I think this could end up being wish list worthy. It's probably not a really unique scent but very wearable.

OvaHere · 05/07/2026 11:40

@CorneliaStreet I was trying to think what perfume of my youth Paradise reminded me of and I think it could actually be Dune. Although it's many years since I smelt Dune.

practicalmagictime · 05/07/2026 12:53

billie eilish your turn 2
This might be full bottle worthy for me, I’ve nothing like it and I really really love it
