Maybe I need a closer look at this one. Tbh I'm struggling a bit with the BACs this year. Nothing really hitting the spot.

I know what you mean. I think I've tried most things by now. Gonna focus on the fragrance ones rather than the BACs I think.

Today is a very old favourite, Dioressence.

I first wore it 30 years ago, it was bought for me by a secret lover! (Nothing shady, we were both single!)

We used to meet in the pub with all our friends and I would wear it as a coded message to say that I was available later!

Long after our time together I met and married my husband and then it felt weird and disloyal to wear a scent bought for me by another man so I left it alone for a long time. But I do love it. And my husband is sensible enough not to feel threatened by an affair half my life ago. And I never see that other chap anyway, we live hundreds of miles apart.

So I’ve started wearing it again!

What a classic chypre! All the things I love. And a nostalgic reminder of some not-so-wild days of my youth!

Tried thameen cora from fenwick bac. Nice, very rosey. Its in that light rose category but not as fruity as say delina.
Not sure I'll keep it. I'm looking forward to bdk impadia in harrods which is a better rose.

Then again, may grow on me.

@TragicMuse I love this story! (and I love chrypres, so thanks for the heads-up on this). Love how the perfume has to be distinctive and powerful enough to send its message.

potplantsinparadise · 26/08/2026 10:41

Unrelated to secret lovers, has anyone tried Le Labo Cedrat? I'm headed to Berlin next month and by its notes, it sounds like my perfect scent (if horribly expensive).

QueefofSheena · 26/08/2026 10:42

I dug out my Ormonde Jayne travel sizes to revisit. SOTD is Montabaco Intensivo. Its too heavy for day wear in August on me but it was a bit of a blind spray. The little sticker on the end just said M. Int so I googled after I sprayed

I ordered travel from killian paraiso and midnight espresso.

Testing Replica tonight - after the rain smells too much like after the rain to me. Nearly like wet soil. Sailing day is more enjoyable but still not something I plan to buy

MiaN · 26/08/2026 19:07

When the rain stops. Not after the rain, sorry for the error

I also ordered midnight espresso. Been looking for a decent coffee scent for a while.

I thought Fenwick looked good as a BAC.

SOTD cafe rose by rom ford. I like this one but end of the sample and got some miller Harris samples coming.

interesting to hear about more chypre rec to have a nose into..

A suprise one... liberty maze, was expecting something very citrussy but its softer and more muted. Quite nice.

Maze is my favourite Liberty scent. I'm using the hand cream from one of their summer kits and it's lovely.

Penhaligon's have a load of free samples available on their website.
https://www.penhaligons.com/uk/en/search/Sample

P&P is £5.50 for a max of 3 samples. They go fast.

Today’s scent happy place cosmetics - white noise

Scent of the day part 9 with the friendly perfumistas - cheapies or niche we're smelling divine!

SOTD Commodity Gold. Similar to Gypsy Water. I made use of cult beauty offers and ordered Gypsy Water (50ml) and 10ml of North Bondi. Gypsy water has been wish list for long time, and I had 10 ml of North Bondi already but would like to give it another chance for my holiday.

IDontHateRainbows · 27/08/2026 09:19

Pearl of dawn. Its a grower, contender for an autumnal scent. There's a similar vibe to baccarat rouge although I'm not saying it smells the same.

Bought another liberty scent kit as a gift for a relative's big birthday. Can't believe they are still in stock, been out a good month.

Debaser for me today. I love the spikiness of it.

IDontHateRainbows · 27/08/2026 17:49

La bomba intensa....i keep deliberating on this one but on balance I like it. Not as sweet as the original.

Enjoying Le Labo Eucalyptus tonight. That type of day. I am ready for fall fragrances I think. I have way less colder weather perfumes but love them all.

Lurkingshark · 27/08/2026 20:15

Peau santal miller Harris. Bit too floral and peppery in opening to be my hg sandalwood. Ok dry down. Back to tam dao.

Thx for the penhaligons link @JoRaRaRa Couple of nice ones left.

TragicMuse · 28/08/2026 09:44

Figue Amour today. It’s very similar to Debaser - I thought they were and compared them this morning, they’re definitely in the same band. I like them both.

MiaN · 28/08/2026 14:51

I need stop spending on perfume! I really want to try D'Annam brand and I will get the sample sets. Or at least one of them - they have 3!
