Out of the blue I am being made redundant. I have managed to bag an interview for a senior role in an education charity. Director job title, working directly to the CEO. Charity does not work in schools and is more vocational education focused.

I have recently lost 8 stone and wasn't expecting to be job hunting so I don't have an interview outfit.

I need opinions please on these outfits. If they're not suitable I need to do an online shop now for delivery tomorrow or Saturday. I have six possibles so I will add 3 here and 3 in another comment:
Option 1: grey dress
Option 2: zig zag skirt
Option 3: snake print dress and lemon jacket

Grey dress or zigzag skirt. Both look really nice, OP. Trouser combos all look a bit too casual for an interview. Good luck!

Presumably, the CEO will still be wearing a suit, though?

Ophy83 · 28/05/2026 09:19

A vote for the zigzag skirt combo here. It looks summery but professional. I think the grey dress is too wintery and also looks a bit more like evening wear than office day wear.

jellycat · 28/05/2026 09:21

Grey dress or zig zag skirt. I worked in a charity for many years and either would have been perfectly acceptable for an interview for a senior position with us (office dress was casual, but interviewers would wear smart casual for the interviews, while interviewees came in something fairly smart but not a formal suit).

I’d probably go with the skirt if it’s a hot day. Grey dress only if it’s suddenly a lot cooler.

The comments on the trousers are interesting as they're from M&S's workwear range so I thought they'd be OK!

From the photos they read more like jeans, so that may be why.

TokyoSushi · 28/05/2026 09:21

Grey dress is quite 'Winter.' I vote option 2, yellowy jacket - good luck OP!

GonetoGreece1982 · 28/05/2026 09:22

The zig zag skirt looks the best, the trousers all look to casual. Good luck with the interview!

bettyjane · 28/05/2026 09:27

I also like the zigzag skirt outfit best (but with different shoes).
The grey dress looks lovely but looks a bit more eveningy somehow.
I don’t think the trousers look smart enough.

I think the cream jacket and blue top from the zigzag skirt outfit would also look nice with wide leg navy trousers.

PicknStick · 28/05/2026 09:29

Definitely not the trouser options.
I like the cream jacket. I also like the grey dress but not with the flat shoes. A heal or wedge for an interview would work best.

CaptainBeefheartspal · 28/05/2026 09:30

Zig zag skirt option.

Parentingisharder · 28/05/2026 09:32

I liked option 2 the zig zag skirt

Delphiniumandlupins · 28/05/2026 09:34

I vote zig zag skirt too. The trousers will be fine once you get the job (fingers crossed).

Gemstonebeach · 28/05/2026 09:35

Option 2 is lovely and professional!

carwashthecat · 28/05/2026 09:37

I vote zig zag too

If you wanted to try different trousers I find next good for speedy delivery, and would try something like this, but I do think the zigzag skirt is a good option from what you already have https://www.next.co.uk/style/su343344/am8559
And well done on the incredible weight loss!

LasagneGoblin · 28/05/2026 09:39

I work in a charity and our exec are smart but err towards relaxed and wear clothes that reflect their personality. Zig zag skirt outfit is perfect I'd say, shows personality while being smart. Grey dress is lovely but would be way too formal for my work.

Good luck for your interview!

Marmaladeaddict · 28/05/2026 09:39

Grey dress with camisole under it . The others are too busy .

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 28/05/2026 09:39

Zig zag skirt all the way - massive congrats on the weight loss and good luck with the interview

I think option 3 looks the best for an interview x Good luck!

TappyGilmore · 28/05/2026 09:43

I vote for zig zag skirt outfit. The snake print dress is okay.

The grey dress is a no from me, it’s far too low cut, it’s a nice enough dress that would suit some occasions but not for an interview. It also looks a bit wintery.

I do like the plain cream jacket as well but the trousers look too casual.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 28/05/2026 09:44

Definitely the grey dress. I’m assuming that the interview will largely be conducted with you sitting down, so your upper body is the most on view? The grey dress also gives an overall put together first impression, simple and professional.

DontShoutInMyEarholeTracey · 28/05/2026 09:44

The Zig zag skirt outfit looks the most professional IMO and ideal for this weather.
The grey dress is too low cut for an interview and looks like you’re going on a night out.
The trouser combos are too casual for an interview.
Good luck!

CieloElmers · 28/05/2026 09:46

I like zig zag skirt on you best, followed by Grey dress

MidnightPatrol · 28/05/2026 09:49

Zigzag skirt. Is it with a blazer or cardigan? It needs a structured jacket but I like the cream if that is so.

I think the grey looks like an evening dress of some sort.

petitpasta · 28/05/2026 09:50

Two more options i just thought of

Option 7: blue wide leg trousers and blue top
Option 8: brown wide leg trousers and brown and cream top

Both these wide leg trousers are heavy weight jersey fabric. They hang nicely though
