Out of the blue I am being made redundant. I have managed to bag an interview for a senior role in an education charity. Director job title, working directly to the CEO. Charity does not work in schools and is more vocational education focused.

I have recently lost 8 stone and wasn't expecting to be job hunting so I don't have an interview outfit.

I need opinions please on these outfits. If they're not suitable I need to do an online shop now for delivery tomorrow or Saturday. I have six possibles so I will add 3 here and 3 in another comment:
Option 1: grey dress
Option 2: zig zag skirt
Option 3: snake print dress and lemon jacket

Another vote for zigzag skirt! Looks great!

I'm surprised by people saying grey dress as that looks inappropriate for work to me.

dontwantobeneet · 28/05/2026 10:48

Zig zag skirt. Good luck!

JackandVictor · 28/05/2026 10:56

Zig zag skirt or grey dress ❤️ sending good vibes xxx

Presumably, the CEO will still be wearing a suit, though?

She may be.

My comment was based on the OP’s photos, though, in which the trousers look (to me) more like mix-&-match casual outfits than formal workwear, particularly for an interview. HTH.

This. For a senior role in a charity the dress looks out of place (I've hired many senior charity roles).
Plus when you're sitting, as you'll be for the majority of the interview, the dress may not sit flat, you may be inclined to fiddle with it, plus your cleavage will be too prominent.
Always better to have a jacket on to cover the nerve sweats (always works for me!).
Zig zag skirt ensemble will be the most appropriate and comfy for you, so your skills and experience can shine! Good luck!!!!

Trickedbyadoughnut · 28/05/2026 11:18

I really like the brown and cream outfit from your update!

Forgotthebins · 28/05/2026 11:24

If it’s a charity they should be judging your experience and skills not your look. That said for an educational charity I would say the grey dress looks too glam. I would be more inclined to the zigzag skirt and blazer. Aim to look like their brand. If they are very understated and formal get some matching trousers and blazer with a neutral top. If they are warm and caring the zigzag skirt and blazer are great. The grey dress would make me think you wanted a job where you could go to cocktail parties.

theresnolimits · 28/05/2026 11:26

Gosh, this has really made me feel like I am out of the loop. Even for senior roles, I thought the vibe was far softer these days - certainly my DILs who are senior in the city don’t wear pattern and neutrals are the theme - navy, white, beige, cream. I think zig zag skirt and lemon jacket are aging and overly formal.

Personally I prefer the trousers and the longer jacket with a softer plain blouse. Or even a nice cardigan - a pop of colour from Oliver Bonas or a subtle blue or beige from Cos.

But what do I know? I do think the London look is less formal than other areas. Congrats OP on the weight loss - just make sure you are dressing for the look you have now.

MumofTinkerbell · 28/05/2026 11:28

I think all of the dress or skirt options look really good the grey is the smartest. You look great! Good luck 💐.

clarrylove · 28/05/2026 11:41

Love the zig zag skirt. I work with he Exec of a uni and can see that outfit being worn.

mimosa1 · 28/05/2026 11:44

The grey dress is lovely! The barrel trousers suit you but the blue looks too much like denim jeans in the photo (might not be the case in real life). Good luck!

whereistheheatwave · 28/05/2026 11:45

Grey dress!

Bournetilly · 28/05/2026 11:49

Brown trousers with brown and cream top

daphneorvelma · 28/05/2026 11:54

Agree with the zigzag dress option. Grey dress – while it is lovely, it's not the right vibe I think, and I would be too hot this time of year. The blazer is a good shout – helps to elevate it.

Good luck!

mamakoukla · 28/05/2026 12:43

Congrats on securing an interview and hope it goes well. I love the grey dress for the purposes of the interview and you wear it well. I think, in part, I find jackets over dresses a bit much and sometimes detract from the overall style of a dress (I am a lifelong person hiding under jackets, cardigans, jumpers so could do well to take my own advice). Wear what you also feel comfortable in.

sunnydisaster · 28/05/2026 13:04

Grey dress for me too! Other outfits too fussy!

redboxerclub · 28/05/2026 13:29

Congrats on weight loss.
not Patterns skirt or the maxi dress

Plain and neutral. Cream jacket trousers and a pair of trousers

outfit 5 is my favourite and 8 is good too.

in not keen on brown

DancingNotDrowning · 28/05/2026 13:57

Zigzag skirt by a long shot with the grey dress second.

definitely not any of the trousers

Jk987 · 28/05/2026 14:12

Grey Dress without question. Maybe with the white jacket. The others don’t look put together enough and are too distracting with the loud patterns.

Zebracat · 28/05/2026 14:40

I think you should buy something new. The grey dress is too warm, zigzags and snakeskin are distracting and dated. The barrel legs don’t really suit you, and look wrong with those jackets, they need a sharper, boxier cut jacket. I don’t mind options 7 and 8 but they kind of look like when men wear a tie with a beach shirt, like you are trying to make them appropriate, the jacket is wrong. I think you should look for a plain dress and jacket - something well cut in a neutral colour. Next Clearance is my go to in these situations . Also, dress from the feet up. Your shoes are too casual. Sorry, I’m not being mean, I’ve also recently lost a lot of weight but my brain hasn’t quite caught up, and it stops me making the best of myself. Bet you nail it though!

ApolloandDaphne · 28/05/2026 16:20

Not the trousers. Options 1 and 2 from your first post will be perfects for this time of year. My fave is the zigzag skirt.

BCBird · 28/05/2026 16:29

I think the bright dress. Which one makes you feel good? If none then go and buy something new.

StasisMom · 28/05/2026 16:31

I say zig zag, if not, grey dress but with jacket. And bloody well done on the weight loss! Good luck!

Usernamedulychanged · 28/05/2026 16:37

Congrats on the job interview and weight loss! You deserve to feel very confident after all you have accomplished! For a job interview , I’d second nipping to Hobbs and buying a tailored suit and blouse. Even if the workplace is more casual day to day, for an interview a suit looks good. Otherwise the grey dress plus a jacket maybe ?

ThePoetsWife · 28/05/2026 16:38

Grey dress
