Men wandering around town centres with no shirt on . Women - sandals with no care taken of feet .

Saw two girls in bikini tops and shorts. Should only do it at pool or beach.

I got the shock of my life when I was in Sydney a few months ago and saw women wearing thong bikinis (butt floss) on the sidewalk in Manly. I mean, they were at least a km away from the beach. I didn't know where to look...

The feet thing. I saw a woman in the office today with thick, yellow hard skin all over her heels. Minging.

I once saw a woman cycling through a town centre in a thong bikini. From the back she looked naked, it was a startling sight to say the least…

If the sun is very strong, everyone has a medical reason to protect their eyes!

Well no, it's not necessary for people with normal vision as you wouldn't be looking directly at the sun.

Also, I don't believe for a second that every dope I see is wearing sunglasses for solely medical seasons. The overwhelming majority are trying, and failing, at looking fashionable.

In fairness, I need sunglasses to drive most of the time.

I presume you can't drive a car. Nobody who had to commute by car early in the morning, or otherwise drive with the sun directly ahead of them, would write something so senseless unless as rage bait.

The majority of people don't wear sunglasses when driving, even on sunny days. I have never needed to wear sunglasses when driving.

Again, most drivers wear sunglasses as a fashion item (even though it's not remotely fashionable).

I take it you don't wear prescription glasses? I need them for driving, so it wouldn't be possible for me to take them off and wear sunglasses instead. There are A LOT of people who wear glasses for driving and those people can't wear sunglasses.

They invented a thing called transitions lenses a while back - you should try them, they're great.

I wear contact lenses. My husband wears prescription sunglasses for driving. I'm not sure what your agenda is, but screwing up your eyes to drive and not being able to see properly as a consequence isn't better than wearing sun glasses. I keep a pair in the car for when the sun's directly in my eyes, which happens fairly regularly on cloudless mornings but can be worse driving home as the sun is going down on freezing cold but clear skied winter late afternoons.

Denying that sunglasses are a pragmatic item when driving is just really weird. Do you also think sunhats when outdoors for protracted amounts of time are an affectation? Even for hikers and agricultural field labourers?

Trust me on this - taking prescription glasses off when driving to wear sunglasses instead is insanity.

I wouldn't be able to see a thing.

Sorry, I don't earn a mumsnet salary, so I only have standard prescription glasses.

If you're volunteering to buy me new glasses, please go right ahead.

Nobody has suggested you do that.

Perhaps keep your glasses on and read properly.

I think it's not illegal to be naked in public, it's illegal to be doing it in such a way that it's upsetting and offending people. So rude sunbathing in a quiet spot would be ok, flashing would not.

Yes, but I think it would depend a bit whether you offend people and what attitude the police take.

For me, it's because I take my sunglasses on and off all the time depending on whether I'm in the sun or the shade, but can't do that as easily if I have to swap my sun glasses and 'real' glasses all the time.

I wear my sunglasses on top of my real glasses. I always tell people that at least I don't have those upper shades like Dwayne Wayne, but you have to be a certain age to know who Dwayne Wayne is.

If by transition lenses she means photocromic, they're awful anyway. They take too long to change.

You weren’t going round Tescos in that though were you? You were wearing an appropriate outfit for a run. This woman was basically wearing a bikini in the supermarket. Context is everything.

I don't see why its' appropriate to run outside in a bra if it's not appropriate to go to the supermarket in just your bra on top. Thin running tops exist.

A running sports bra is very different to an underwear one. Many just look like crop tops, especially if you are small chested.
I'm just back from a run. I did wear a loose vest but equally would have been totally decent wearing just my sports crop top. I wear a vest to wipe sweat and bugs off.

I remember Dwayne Wayne! Apparently there was a whole trend around that style of glasses, God knows why!
