Which kind of outfit or particular item are you seeing in the hot weather that you'd like to ban Man or woman.

My knickers remain untwisted. I asked because most people find them fairly inoffensive at worst.

Sorry wrong post quoted.

gatorlizzie · Yesterday 13:03

I've just been into a hospital and blimey the banned list is out in force there although there were no bikini tops or bare chests. Most people looked destined for the beach.

Well a hospital is a bit different... people don't always have the opportunity to change before they end up there!

And that makes a difference? No, they're weasel words. You're still saying that dressing a certain way makes a person look like a "skank" - the dictionary definition being: "an insulting term used to describe an unhygienic, sleazy, or highly promiscuous person (most commonly directed at women). It implies a lack of morals, class, or cleanliness."

And all they've done for you to think they look "skanky" is to wear a mismatched bikini, & have dyed blonde hair with grown-out roots?

I think it's a low-rent look. I stand by my opinion.

Because if you need to walk a fair distance, not everyone can find summer shoes that are comfortable. There's nothing easier to wear than a midi dress and a pair of trainers/converse/vans etc.
This thread shows that you'd never get a consensus on what looks nice, so best to go with what suits your, budget, lifestyle and taste. I'll never stop wearing dresses and trainers, although I've never wore white, but also co-ords featuring mid width trousers.

Yes quite. I do wonder what happened in the days when dresses with trainers wasn’t a trend though. Or did people just not used to walk then

Fair enough! You probably won't like my current summer favourite, sarouel trousers (aka harem pants, more or less)!! I'm planning on wearing them while lying on a chaise longue, having my partner feed me frozen grapes & wafting me with a peacock feather fan ...

Very elegant- where are they from?

Blueuggboots · Yesterday 14:03

Tiered dresses/skirts

ThreeStripeQueen · Yesterday 14:21

It’s hard to pick one, but seeing as a lot of flesh has been covered (on not!) by others.
I’ll go for sports sandals in all their forms, closed toe, open toe, woven from that cord Scouts like to use, with socks or without socks. They’re all ugly.

You forgot wet nurse, basic bitch, cheap tart & skanky ... Who needs men to put us down?

If that’s the case, who needs anyone to be talking about pale, freckled Celtic skin in such a derogatory way.

Floral maxi dresses with white trainers. Only made worse by wearing with a denim jacket.

Please tell me you (and others commenting on the dress, denim jacket and trainers) aren't admirers of the dreadful woman on TikTok who has decided she is a fashion expert and endlessly criticises and diminishes women for wearing this combination!

I think some people look good in some outfits, others in different things but, within reason, live and let live

LlamaBasket · Yesterday 14:39

I popped to the chip shop yesterday and a girl served us, then walked out from behind the counter with a teeny tiny pair of gym shorts, that showed the bottom of her bum cheeks.

I try not to judge and I am usually a wear what you like type of person, but I felt it was inappropriate for food preparation, regardless of how hot it is.

I think about where the loo seat touches when you sit down. It isn’t high up on your bum, it’s the top of the legs/lower bottom, exactly the area these shorts expose. So, wear what you like proudly, except if you’re working with food, and then for goodness sake wear something clean and hygienic. Put me off my food.

Thong bikini under a lace see through skirt for breakfast in my hotel this morning. I don’t need to see your whole arse (it was basically dental floss) while I’m eating my eggs. Round the pool I’m all for body positivity where what the hell you want just not at 8.30 in a restaurant!

I don't especially like the look either. It's not the opinion - it's your previous wording of it.

Pendapala · Yesterday 15:11

Jeez… this must be the most f’ing depressing thread of the summer so far.

Grim to know that whatever a woman (or man) chooses to wear, there’ll be another woman judging her for it. Who needs the patriarchy, huh?

Oh fgs. I didn't look at the dictionary definition of the words. To me, skanky means to look low-rent, not to mean no morals or whatever it said.

People judge others' clothes all the time. If someone wears something that looks low-rent and cheap, I'm not going to say how tasteful it looks.

I think thong bottoms should be banned unless at a nudist beach. They show the whole arse. It's completely inappropriate for children, and I wouldn't want other women parading their naked bottoms in front of my partner, either. The only naked bottom he should be seeing is mine!

There was a far worse one last night, which thankfully has been pulled. It was never going to go well, but this one was absolutely extra. I'm hoping it was the heat getting to people.

For women - fat women in crop tops.

For men - men with no tops on.

And I suppose you have a perfect figure yourself?

Women do not have to shroud themselves in yashmaks if their body shape and size do not happen to conform to other people's ideas of what they should be 'allowed' to wear.

You do realise this is just a thread on mumsnet. I’m not actually allowed to ban these things, so fat women can still wear crop tops and men can still not wear a top at all. I don’t rule……unfortunately. 😅

Well a hospital is a bit different... people don't always have the opportunity to change before they end up there!

Sitting in a crowded (but thankfully air conditioned) A&E one summer with a hand injury is the only reason behind why I dislike flip flops, mules and anything that doesn't attach to the feet more fully - waiting for 5 hours behind 27 other people of different ages, physicality and dress, all with ankle and toe injuries where they were clearly in a hell of a lot of pain and their feet gradually going shades of purple and black made me realise just how dangerous the things could be.

Couldn’t agree more. My dad dislocated his shoulder in a fall caused by mule-type slippers that provided no support whatsoever. He never wore them again after that.
