Which kind of outfit or particular item are you seeing in the hot weather that you'd like to ban Man or woman.

Those micro shorts teenagers wear that go right up the bum crack. Ugh.

Crocs

Birkenstocks and socks. Looking at my sister

Ohpleeeease · Yesterday 06:27

I’m not keen on the cheeky bum bikini bottom. I’m on holiday and seeing a LOT of dimpled arse.

ThatsNicer · Yesterday 07:00

Agree about the men and the Ray Winstone 'Sexy Beast' look. At least we are saved from the speedos!
Young woman in city centre: She was slightly built, white dress just above the knee, fine. BUT wearing boots made of a thick brown plastic that I first thought was leather, they fitted like wellingtons.

Still no objections by the fashion police on this thread to trainers without socks in summer? Just about everything else has been condemned. I shall carry on doing this then, like we teenagers did in the 90s (sometimes with dresses), and we were told of all sorts of nasty things that would happen to our feet. I loved my Reebok Classics on my bare feet then. (One thing some people did then which would outraged mumsnet was to wear them tied very loosely indeed, so that your heel would pop out with every step. Also, backless trainers were popular then, especially without socks.) At the moment, I love my striped Rocket Dogs: very airy and comfy, no socks needed.

I don’t like flip flops because I can’t walk far in them, so I suppose I envy people who do wear them a lot. I like toe post sandals though, the ones with a single strap over the top of the foot.

A lot of people have to wear Dr Marten type shoes for work and can’t wear sandals.
Cowboy boots are worn in Texas which is very warm.

My feet are actually cooler and more comfortable in cotton socks and leather trainers.

I'm talking huge, heavy knee high boots combined with tiny strapless mini dress/ shorts.

Trainers were not mentioned. Ditto workwear and yanks. You are obviously have no idea what I'm talking about.

You mean these? Me too!

It's not exactly that there's too much foot on show for me - bare feet are absolutely fine (if clean & presentable). It's the fact that there's a thin thong cutting between the big & second toe, which makes me feel nauseous - & then without a strap across the foot at the front, the toes seem to look weirdly naked, more so than if no sandals at all were worn.

Yep, those are the ones! I just hate them. Absolutely zero foot support either.

gatorlizzie · Yesterday 07:11

EleanorMc67 · Yesterday 00:23

Why? When they're well cut they can look fabulous - especially on someone tall. I can understand you not liking them yourself if they don't suit you - but banning them for others?

Yet you were earlier going on about the open mules with the weird heels? It's just a bit of fun here - there's no need to get your knickers in a twist 😂

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · Yesterday 07:13

Shirtless men.

localnotail · Yesterday 07:14

Gosh! People on here. Some of you would have a heart attack/ spit at me: wide trousers, Birkenstocks and a white tshirt with black bra underneath. Yeeees

NotTheOrdinary · Yesterday 07:15

When did calling women skanks, bitches and cheap tarts become acceptable on MN?

YES this is what I mean!! Seen several of these examples yesterday (In London, it was so hot you could probably fry an egg on the pavement): light, short, floaty dress and huge, leather-looking knee high boots that looked like gigantic wellies, with black knee high socks showing underneath. WTF is this fashion, you are not at a festival in a muddy field.

I never notice/ pay attention to other people's naked feet, I think all these people going on about how hateful naked feet are must be closet foot fetishists in denial.

Almost all summer clothes are horrible in my opinion. There is nothing suitable for this season that is nearly as elegant as boots with black tights and a swingy faux fur coat. It is a miserable time for style.

Hard disagree.

Yikes101 · Yesterday 07:27

I’ve been reading this thread too long to stick with just one so I’ll go for visible bra straps when the bra is tatty and greying, if you’re wearing thin straps then wear a pretty bra that co-ordinates in case it’s seen, extra yuck points for bra straps and strapless tops or back band of bra across the middle of a low back top. Horrible feet in sandals, no objection to feet or sandals but crusty heels, fungal toenails, crossed over toes, bunions on show (my friend who has terrible bunions manages to wear a style of sandal that disguises instead of emphasises the bunion). Walking sandals. Men in slip on shoes with no socks. Armpit sweat patches.

But that's probably where the look came from.

Perfectlystill · Yesterday 07:49

Not necessarily a summer look but I hate those shorts and leggings girls are wearing to the gym that go right up into their arse crack so you can basically imagine them naked.

They are horrific

Bright colours top and bottom? I genuinely want tips on how to do that without looking like Timmy Mallett.

Black and white aren't colours; they go with everything. Why is that wrong?

Hahaa yes, sorry I meant strong colours rather than bright.

I disagree about black and white going with everything especially in the summer.

Palazzo pants.

For my own personal health and safety. Was wearing some when working from home (luckily) and tripped on the insides of them whilst walking up the stairs. This resulted in them simultaneously being pulled down and me falling flat on my face against the stairs. Never again.

Long maxi dresses might be similarly perilous.

I guess that’s a rational reason.

I always notice manky feet. One of my friends have thickened hard skin that has gone yellow. I fantasise about sorting them out, so perhaps I do have a fetish 😂

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · Yesterday 08:08

To be fair we went to the Yorkshire coast yesterday and I had to comment on how nice the vast majority of people looked. Plenty of summer dresses on display without revealing lots of flesh or underwear. Men in linen/cotton shorts.
The only sight I saw which made me wince was sunburnt young men-teenagers. Always on their exposed backs.
It made me chuckle how everyone in the bars/cafes sat outside was seeking shade too. Us included!

awfulapril · 25/05/2026 15:39

Oh no, I disagree. They look nice for about 30 minutes. 😀

Cotton crumples just enough to look messy- with linen it's part of the look, no one mentions this because they all wear cotton.

Gross feet in sandals/flipflops. As in yellowing talon-like nails, hard crusty skin, dirty and generally uncared for.

This is gross people have no shame

Fair enough! You probably won't like my current summer favourite, sarouel trousers (aka harem pants, more or less)!! I'm planning on wearing them while lying on a chaise longue, having my partner feed me frozen grapes & wafting me with a peacock feather fan ...

Love harem pants and any wide/loose trousers in summer. I would quite like the grapes and peacock feathers too, but it's unlikely 😂.

This thread is hysterical. I, personally, think too tight, too skimpy clothes that show lots of sunburn is not a good look - especially in the full heat of the day. We could take note of how people in hotter countries dress: often looser, natural fibres, sunhat, cover ups, sunglasses...
