I once did one of those things and then forgot I've done it until three days later was terrified

Sweeping generalisation of course, but as a nation, we just don’t seem to know how to dress for hot weather. We seem to think that exposing a maximum amount of flesh will keep us cool, whereas in other countries people seem to stay covered in hot weather, but still look cool and elegant. This isn’t a prude thing for me by the way, just aesthetics and more effective cooling!

Socks with sandals is my dad at the beach in 1968.

I have sensory issues with sandals on my bare feet in that I hate the feel of anything thick material but I love the look of them, especially ones with block heels 70s style.

Wish socks and sandals would come back into fashion!

They're satisfying in a disgusting way but they don't actually make any difference. Pumice stone or foot file.

viques · 25/05/2026 20:45

Shorts which show butt cheeks, especially on ample bottoms!

I direct you to Footner.

I tried footner and was disappointed. The best and easiest thing I have discovered is a Margaret Dabbs foot file. Most of her stuff I find very overpriced but the footfile is good, does what it is supposed to do and best of all is quite long so for those of us with ahem “stretch issues” it works very well.

DaffodilLill · 25/05/2026 17:38

The air flows up long droopy dresses. Not that I wear dresses that trail on the ground

Shorts are not 'cool' when it's hot.
They restrict the air flow around your bum etc . Tight waistbands too.

I think shorts are for the beach, or playing sport, or hiking.

Yes, flowy, loose clothes are what you need when it's hot.

This one?

For that amount of money, I'd want it to put my feet up, ask my about my holiday and give me a cup of coffee, as well! Grin

Thanks, I'll look into that.

Badly applied orange fake tan. You can just use a few drops and mix with a moisturiser. Looks so much nicer.

Nobody seems to have told Donald!

Live in quite a posh park of Norfolk, near the beach, hint: property prices plummeted a few months ago due to a disgraced former prince moving into one of the family piles a few miles away…anyway most locals and tourists dress appropriately.

Saturday I ventured along our coast line to Gt Yarmouth. OMG, saw every thing mentioned above, but walking along the front was an overweight man, about forty five almost wearing tiny speedos, that almost reached hip level. A rubber vest thing that he’d rolled up above his very generous belly, and biker boots. Strutting along like he was Tommy flaming Shelby.

An assault to the senses. I haven’t been the same since.

G5000 · 25/05/2026 20:57

I go to gym a lot. I get it, it's hot, I am not wearing much either. But the butt scrunch shorts have to die. Especially beige and pink ones, which seem to be the height of fashion, saw several just today. Why do we want to demonstrate the depth of our arse crack in such detail nowadays?

awfulapril · 25/05/2026 20:57

@viques I so agree, I got some free foot cream from her and it's good but Jesus is expensive

Agree, I did a foot peeling mask thing and it made no difference at all, Back to the foot file followed by lathering on cocoa butter foot cream . I bought a stick thingy of cocoa butter in T K Max the other day, haven't yet tried it but am hoping for results

I have this one which controls the hard skin on one of my big toes and my heels and has quite a long handle.

You have to go easy with it though!

Having bottom cheeks doesn't really count as an asset, it's the most basic of human/ape/monkey features.
And calling them assets gives the impression you think they are improved by the leggings when they actually look minging.

Well it really does, considering some people have minimal glutes and others have huge ones, and everything in between. Just like every woman has boobs, they're still an asset, regardless of size. If they weren't an asset, they wouldn't be sexualised and nobody here would have a problem with seeing them. All humans and a lot of animals have arms, but I'm yet to see anyone here criticise seeing other women's arms - because they're not an asset; they're not sexualised.

Some of the leggings/shorts do provide lift and definition which do make them look better, the scrunch bum ones in particular I do not like, but again, people can wear what they want regardless of my preferences, I'm not going to judge them and snarl at their clothes to bring them down when they're obviously feeling confident, because what benefit would that have for me? Attacking other people for their clothing choices doesn't make yours look any better.

That’s the one. Mine was a present so wasn’t aware of the price, but to be fair I would buy one because it does work!

When did feet start being a thing that people dislike? I'm over 50 and for me it's only in the last 10 years.

When you see peoples thick, yellow, fungal toe (claws) nails! Thats when!!!! 🤢🤢🤢

DisrobeDatrobe · 25/05/2026 21:02

I don't think I'd ban anything, one of the things I like about summer is seeing people's outfits instead of everyone wearing a coat. Even if an outfit looks terrible in my personal opinion, it's still interesting to see.

What’s it got to do with women?
