Well today I was in a small city and bloody hell, it was about 35 degrees. Several posters will have banned what I was wearing - a huge LINEN 'balloon' midi dress that could indeed have also been a tent, a LINEN sort of shrug cardi (better than sunburn), my Teva hiking sandals (they make 'pretty' ones) with quite a lot of hard heel skin on show, and an umbrella for shade. On the other hand, the youths I was passing by in their bikinis and sweaty nylon swim shorts will be feeling really rough tomorrow with their carefully cultivated 2nd degree sunburn.

I was on your side until the hard skin

Those awful baggy, knee-length shorts which certain men seemingly can't wait to put on when it's hot, especially when they slip down over their large stomachs. Ugh!!

Extra yuck points if they are also wearing very ugly brown sandals with socks pulled up to the calf.

awfulapril · 25/05/2026 20:18

I'd like to point out that I did put in the original post at the more irrational the dislike the better.
So 20 points to the person who said sunglasses

Puffer jackets.

I swear I’ve seen two people wearing them today…my car reckons it’s currently 34 degrees.

I did, too. One of the thinner ones but still! It was 32 here! A boy of about 17, sat on a scooter type thing, with sunglasses on. He really fancied himself too and like he was willing to suffer for fashun*.

I wondered how he hasn't melted yet.

GlomOfNit · 25/05/2026 20:18

Last summer I went on a uni open day with DS and as we got off the train with fifty billion other 17 yo's and their parents, my eyes were horribly drawn to the rear of a 17 yo girl. She was right in front of me and ascending the stairs. She was wearing a thong (I hope she was anyway) and had a skirt that was so short it ended several inches ABOVE the curve of her bum cheeks. I was appalled for her. Anyone behind her could have given her a gynaecological inspection if they so wished. I wondered if she was in any sort of an abusive relationship where her bloke conditioned her to dress like that. I feared for her. I don't want to police what women wear but this felt wrong, like something that had been imposed on her.

Thongs on the high street.
What are they thinking?

A mantra for modern day life

In my defence, I've got appalling sciatica and some sort of embuggerment of my back and hips and I CANNOT get myself into a position to pumice and Ped Egg my heels! I can just about dab on some Flexitol and that's it.

I'm beginning to get flashbacks to Cod shrieking about 'horny hoofers', one of her many S&B obsessions.

(you are not Cod are you??)

You don’t think people should wear shorts. Now your being ridiculous.

Why do people wear shorts when it's hot ? They have a waistband ? Sometimes a belt ? Cling to your undercarriage? You need fresh air around your bits in this weather!

Linen trousers and tops are the best things to wear in summer. They are cool and comfortable. Why does it matter it they look creased. It's part of the look

Because the look is awful imo.

I have shorts that don't do that. Loose airy shorts

I’m currently stuck in hospital since Friday afternoon. Went out for a walk with dd1 around the grounds as it’s the first day I’ve been off an IV drip. Saw two topless male patients with ID bracelets so definitely patients! Both elderly men with huge flabby, white, beer bellies! And a young girl with those shorts described above! Plus they were all what I call milk bottle white (we’re in Ireland so us natives have skin that turns bright red after 10 mins of sunshine). I reckon they’ll have sunstroke to add to their ailments this evening!

Sorry to hear about your hospital stay. Hope you're on the up - being poorly when the country is basking in the sunshine sucks 😞

Seen locally today: a bloke with no shirt, shorts, flip-flops, tattoos AND an ankle tag. Classy.

ChaToilLeam · 25/05/2026 20:23

Any attire that shows your arse: thongs, very short shorts, trousers bustin' low. Put it ALL away before you get sunburn. 🌞

BurntBroccoli · 25/05/2026 20:26

The ubiquitous midi length floral White Stuff type frock. I don’t mind summer dresses but why do they all have that same shapeless look and all be ditsy
floral?

Open toed anything.... even 'nice' feet give me the heebie jellies! Feet are grim, keep your toes to yourself please 😂😂

I think I was the only person in trainers today - leather ones worn with flowy silky combats and spaghetti strap top.

Everyone else had sliders. My feel oddly seem to be hotter in sandals than they do in trainers and cotton socks.

Yeah all of these women obsessing over other women's bodies and them wearing clothes that show off their assets and make them feel confident just screams jealousy tbh

Having bottom cheeks doesn't really count as an asset, it's the most basic of human/ape/monkey features.
And calling them assets gives the impression you think they are improved by the leggings when they actually look minging.

That's not an answer and you know it isn't. I suspect you of being Cod, with much-improved typing.

I could indeed pay someone to do my hooves. I'm not given to 'pampering' though and frankly a bit ashamed of them.

GlomOfNit · 25/05/2026 20:37

NotDarkGothicMama · 25/05/2026 20:22

Yeah I have one of those ready to go (heard about them over on Sporner Corner) but you need a good two weeks without nice weather in order to go past the peeling stage. No way am I going to use a Footner peel while it's so hot, I'll have to wear closed shoes!

Also, and this is very disappointing, the results are epic initially, but you get the hard skin back in record time.

Can I ban my own peri-internal-furnace-purpley-perspiring summer look?

Hate that look. It'll never catch on.
