the amount of women’s arses i saw yesterday was disturbing. one women in a mini skirt bent over to her pushchair and he entire bare arse was on display. put.it.away

Bikergran · 25/05/2026 18:59

Men in mid-calf cargo pants. Most people in shorts (me included).

PuppyMonkey · 25/05/2026 19:00

I have long suspected it, but this thread provides confirmation - all summer clothes are basically shit. Grin

TheGirlattheBack · 25/05/2026 19:01

Lucy and Yak colourful/patterned dungarees and jumpsuits. They look like giant toddler clothes.

MyDeftDuck · 25/05/2026 19:03

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 25/05/2026 15:40

Shirtless blokes. Every single time.
Leave the women alone! 😂

In no particular order….
Crocs
Hot pants
Bikini tops anywhere other than the beach
Sleeveless tee shirts on men showing hairy armpits
Men In public with no shirt or tee shirt
Leggings
Low slung bottoms that show bum cracks
Manky, old, knackered flip flops

Were you in Manchester? I said earlier that last night I kept seeing young women wearing thongs and a weird wide belt thing, fringed or hanky hem, that was obviously intended to cover only about a third of the arse. It was essentially full bare arse out, as streetwear. I'm not usually too fussed about clothing I don't like, including revealing clothing, but this seemed to cross a line for me. It's the middle of a city, not a beach or pool. Arses all out, really?

fantam · 25/05/2026 19:04

The irony is, unless you are sunbathing, being covered up a bit like wearing loose muslin type (I don't know the name of the fabric) tops/shirts with sleeves, loose flowy ankle length trousers or a long flowy dress and a hat keep the sun off and keep you cool. Nothing else does as the skin roasts away otherwise!

MummyWillow1 · 25/05/2026 19:07

Men without tops on. It isn’t sexy or cool and you will just end up sunburnt.

Women with straps everywhere, see above. Saw someone out today who must have been wearing a top full of straps yesterday and had a weird sunburn pattern.

A typical sight here in Germany: mostly elderly men bare chested wearing shorts and sandals with socks on bikes - quite often with some sort of radio attached to the bike.

This has reminded me of when I was in Portugal 2 years ago and there was a very tanned German man probably in his 60s who was bare chested wearing what looked like lederhosen. This was by the hotel pool. He had a big tummy but it looked pretty firm, more like a pregnant belly. Even though it should have looked awful or hilarious there was something about him that meant he looked quite cool. Maybe it was the braces with the bare chest. I loved his confidence 😆

SmudgeButt · 25/05/2026 18:47

women who wear sandals that are too short for their feet so their gangly long toes stick out an inch in front.

This is my MIL bless her heart!

Scarlettpixie · 25/05/2026 18:46

I support people’s right to wear whatever they want regardless of my preferences.

Really?

So you would be OK with someone walking around the town centre just wearing a g-string or a full latex gimp suit because that's their ''right''?

In public spaces you also to consider other people.

I don't want to see men's sweaty chests when I am in a supermarket or a woman's backside hanging out of their too small and too tight shorts when I am in a shop.

Linen trousers and tops.

They suit no-one and always look like a crumpled tissue after a few moments of wear.

Linen trousers and tops are the best things to wear in summer. They are cool and comfortable. Why does it matter it they look creased. It's part of the look

Bubobubo · 25/05/2026 19:12

VWT7 · 25/05/2026 16:06

Men on naturist beaches.
Totally naked = absolutely fine
T shirt on top with loose danglies hanging below - looks awful and needs to be banned.

Like an X-rated Winnie the Pooh.

DejaMooo · 25/05/2026 19:17

Pistachiomonster · 25/05/2026 15:48

Those hellish leggings and cycling shorts on young girls with some sort of bum defining/empathising thing in. They look hellishly sweaty and even worse in nude colour.

Tattoos and a suntan. Feel sorry for some peoples skin.

Ugh, yes! Scrunch bum leggings. Nobody needs to see your bum crack in high definition. I don’t think they look nice on even the most toned bums.

Well to be fair I haven’t seen anyone walking around time in a gimp suit so not sure that’s where I was going with that. But women in shorts, sandals, maxi dresses, with tattoos, strap on tops etc etc. Many of the suggestions are just misogynistic at worst and critical of women at best. I mean overweight women in maxi dresses ffs. You know what? It’s ok for people to have body hair, to be fat, to sweat in hot weather without being shamed.

localnotail · 25/05/2026 19:19

Hair that goes past your bum. Massively freaks me out as you can sit on it and also its literally on the floor if you are sitting down - imagine it wiping the floor at the pub/ bus/ bus stop and then you are in bed sleeping with all this shit touching your body. Gross.

localnotail · 25/05/2026 19:20

Also seen a teenager in Tesco wearing actual underpants (thin cotton fabric, white with tiny flowers on it), thin transparent vest top and slippers. Fucking weird as might as well would have been naked.

ainsleysanob · 25/05/2026 19:21

I’d ban capri trousers. Seeing capri trousers irrationally aggravates me.

PluckedFromThinAir · 25/05/2026 19:22

Those baggy wide leg trousers with thick coloured stripes, likely from Beyond Nine. I don’t know why I hate them but I do.

localnotail · 25/05/2026 19:23

I'm in London obvs ))

Ilovemycatalot · 25/05/2026 19:24

It seems every item of clothing you could possibly wear in summer has been criticised which leaves me wondering what do the mumsnet fashion police think we should be wearing? And that picture of the closed in shoes on this thread are absolutely vile give me a pair of open toed sandals any day.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/05/2026 19:25

From bikini tops to gimp suits. Only on MN. 😂

BountifulPantry · 25/05/2026 19:30

Topless men.

No. Put your pointless nipples away.

I agree. There are some very intolerant people on this thread. Why would perfectly normal clothes like linen trousers or maxi dresses enrage people so much? I agree about the bums hanging out though.

Middle-aged men without shirts.... saw it in Yorkshire when it was only about 16 degrees! Yuck.
People wearing shorts and beach wear in cities.... just no.
Go to Italy in warm/hot weather and you won't see any of these things from the locals.... they know how to dress properly and appropriately.

You don’t think people should wear shorts. Now your being ridiculous.
