It’s so gorgeous:

For the reception I haven’t decided, but possibly a dress from here:

Ho hum - I’ll have to hit the apps. 😄

(Very sorry, I don’t have a question.)

Only on Mumsnet!!

Exactly. In real life, no-one would wear this monstrosity. Or any of the monstrosities on the website. Certainly no-one I know anyway. I wouldn't been seen dead in these 'designs.'

'Emporers New Clothes' springs to mind with a few posts on here. 😆

Oh wow, @Floisme - have you started planning your Birthday Outfit?? And identified a suitably grand vintage shop in which to hold your party? Will there be hats? Surely the dress code on your invitations will be epic. I insist you curate a thread of celebration costume photos for S&B.😄

This is so exciting. I long for your response to the first unwise poster who dismisses something palpably nasty with Only someone over 70 would wear that!

I don't know who said that, but I have to say, even the over 70s I know wouldn't be seen dead in this dress or any of the other outfits on the website. 😬

I'm posted earlier about half a dozen outfits I'd be very happy to wear. I might not pair the pierrot jackets with the pierrot trousers but separately yes. Of the 2 dresses I liked I already own and wear similar, although not from Cawley.

What I wouldn't be seen dead in is most of the wedding guest and occasion outfits suggested on here. There are 2 in particular which appear a lot. If in the hypothetical situation where an airline lost my luggage and the only options were these 2 particular outfits or whatever I'd worn to travel in, I still wouldn't wear them.

'even the over 70s'? My word.

I shall look forward very much to your suggestions on my 'What shall I wear?' thread,

The model looks like she’s levitating

Dancingintherain09 · 19/05/2026 20:10

It looks like it's been cut out of wall paooer with feather stuck on for 'effect' like when you do bridal shower games and have to make dresses outvof random stuff

cauliflowercheeseplease · 19/05/2026 20:13

Is this a joke?

OhThePotential · 19/05/2026 20:46

Not to my exact taste but I’m with you on fashion in general, OP.

I worked in the office at Droopy and Brown from 1995 until shortly after Angela’s death in 2000. I was 24 when I started there and would have given my right arm to be able to afford the clothes. They were very theatrical and, as has been said, very much of their time. I look at them now and can’t believe how much clothes have changed.

Now I like Cecilie Bahnsen, Simone Rocha, Kindred of Ireland (I’d buy more from them if they were not all linen) and if I’m wanting trousers, Rundholz.

I mourn the loss of the Cabbages and Roses clothing line. Has anyone ordered anything from Christi Anna Lomas yet? I’d love to but the ordering process looks a faff and I just can’t get past there being no returns on clothes costing in the high hundreds due to them being ‘bespoke’ (they’re not, they’re made to order as far as I can see, with tweaks available).

tsmainsqueeze · 19/05/2026 20:51

It doesn't help that they have used Mrs Danvers to model it.

One or two performative responses on here, methinks. Cards on table, I would decline the pantaloons, the frilly mini and probably the smocked sleeve dress too. In fact in the highly unlikely event of my ever needing another wedding dress, I would actually want a suit like the one my great aunt wore when she got married in around 1915. (Incidentally I have never seen anyone smile in early twentieth century photos, including weddings, and I assume they all had a perfectly good time.)

But some of the other outfits look beautiful to me and not in the least outlandish. I love the shape and the severity of the dress the op has linked, although I fear for the feathers once the champagne's cracked open.

To whom it may concern, I'm age 69 3/4.

I agree with all that, I’m 55.

Your Great Aunt’s wedding suit reminded me that the some of the most beautiful clothes I think I’ve ever seen are the Edwardian style suits from Alexander McQueen’s S/S ‘Sarabande’ collection 2007.

Bunnyofhope · 19/05/2026 20:58

I'll look up that collection. I would so love a genuine Edwardian Walking suit.

Yes. You can. I won’t stop you. 😄

I think this is my favourite. Perhaps my taste hasn’t moved on from my Droopy&Brown days after all…

DontStopMe · 19/05/2026 21:13

That's fabulous, OhThePotential, but I still prefer my hat.

shaylla · 19/05/2026 21:34

There is only one of the wedding outfits that i like and it's The Song Dress (without the cardi) and that is utterly beautiful.

How can something so effortlessly simple and timeless have come from the same stable as all those puffs and flounces?!

For those who have always wanted to look like an overgrown toddler on their wedding day.

or a comedia dell’arte extra…

Not my cup of tea at all, OP. I honestly struggle to believe that anyone would want to buy these…

but you might find my wedding dress dreadfully boring… but I happen to love it! Which is what matters. So wear whatever your heart desires (well, within the bounds of legality, possible financial constraints etc…)! 🤷‍♀️

The frill mini would look divine on Jemima Puddleduck.

I do actually like that one.

But it is flattering not dehumanising.

crazeekat · 19/05/2026 21:42

More money than sense as my granny would say

Tocsin · 19/05/2026 21:49

You must have amazing dress memories, @OhThePotential. I think I recall the D&B clothes being quite beautifully constructed, with perfect seams on the inside. (Still something I care about as much as how clothes look on the outer side.)

Cecilie Bahnsen is another brand I cannot persuade S&B to like, despite my best efforts. My own several years long crush is possibly cooling a little - only because I become bored with anything after a while.

Almost anything - not the Fall 2006 AMcQ collection with all the tweeds. Never. Also hard to believe I had some of his black wool, low rise bell bottom trousers from 2000 and wore them to shreds. If I could go back in time …

It’s classic, I’ll agree with that. I have a few issues with the word ‘flattering’ when it comes to choosing clothes though.

Yes, The Derry dress in navy silk taffetta. They sent a swatch and detailed measurements. It's beautiful but of course got torn to shreds on here by the flattering brigade. Also a Hettie jacket which I knew would be lovely as already have one.

What's wrong with flattering?
